Why people continue to think players would sign a minor league deal built like a major league deal, when if it were possible during the lockout we would have already seen it. Smh
Please, Hammer. Don't hurt 'em.
I believe I read that any player who finished the season on a 40-man roster or injured list is ineligible to sign a minor league deal during the lockout. MLB preemptively closed that loophole so it can’t be done. Any player who wasn’t considered a minor league player at the end of last season can’t be considered one now.
bravesiowafan
As it should be. Don’t get why ppl do t understand this. Gets stated every chat since the lockout. Maybe MLBTR should do a post about this.
Jean Matrac
I agree. I missed the chat, but when I read the transcript, my first thought was to comment on this ridiculous question that keeps popping up.
How many top-flight FAs weren’t on a 40-man roster at the end of the season? If they were they’re ineligible to sign a deal. And even if there was one, no player that expects to sign a ML deal of any significance is going to sign a MiL deal. Minor league deals aren’t guaranteed. So, an injury in ST and that guy is screwed.
Harrison Aaron
It stinks that mlb is in a lock out but at least the Mets made the best of it by hiring a new manager and promoting someone to a asistent general manager
Harrison Aaron
Do You think the Mets can get chapmen and manea or brissit for Mc Neil and Dom Smith ?
coolhandneil
Not unless there’s some high prospects included.
Harrison Aaron
I agree they might get rid of Ronney Mariaco and another prospect then I think it can happen.
Harrison Aaron
Do you think the Mets can get Kris Bryant also ?
jorge78
The owner just needs to write a check…..
Harrison Aaron
He will he’s Steve cohen he will spend I guarantee more then ever when the lockout ends !

When the A’s talk about acquiring “controllable players”, they mean:
“players who will still be cheap when our window reopens”.
McNeil, Smith and Davis (because he’s a frequent alternate in trade suggestions) are all valueless to them. The A’s rebuild cycle is three years, and all of those guys are in arbitration.
Harrison Aaron
That’s why the Mets should trade them for Matt chapmen and a arm it kills 2 birds with one stone
CCCTL
For McNeil Davis and Smith and the money to cover all their earnings until free agency, the A’s will trade you a bucket of warm spit.
Harrison Aaron
Ha ha bout the Mets will still get chapmen and bassist wait and see !
Rsox
Maybe Brissit.
However if they want Chapman, Manaea, or Bassit they are going to have to do better than that
Harrison Aaron
Trust me the Mets will do what ever it takes to land their man Matt chapmen and Manea and maybe even Bassit !!! Uncle steve got us covered with all the money and the players and prospects
Rsox
The problem is it takes two sides to make a trade. The A’s already have the poor man’s McNeil in Tony Kemp. They are not going to trade the best defensive 3B in the league for the worst. And Smith and Davis are basically DH’s so why would Oakland want both?. Plus if you are trying to get two starters from Oakland three will have to be going back to the A’s and the Mets severely lack pitching prospects. Its why Jerad Eickhoff was released and re-signed multiple times last year
CCCTL
In the 2021 season that “poor man’s McNeil”:
batted 30 points higher,
hit 1 more HR than McNeil in less games,
and walked twice as often.
Rsox
I didn’t mean any insult towards Kemp
fox471 Dave
H. Aaron: are you related to Steve Cohen or just infatuated?
DarkSide830
McNeil for brisket – who says no?
Rsox
It is hard to turn down a good brisket…
Harrison Aaron
Trust me the Mets will do what ever it takes to land their man Matt chapmen and Manea and maybe even Bassit !!! Uncle steve got us covered with all the money and the players and prospects
Harrison Aaron
Your right but Oakland will be a big seller during the off-season so it doesn’t matter because the Mets have the money and they aren’t afraid to spend it on good players like chapmen and Manea because money wins most of the time In deals and signings

Bud Mets don’t have the farm for that haul, and as stated above the three guys Mets fans seem to only want to get rid of won’t even make the A’s blink. Over half the league has a better farm system and could be the Mets offer.
Harrison Aaron
They could but like I said the Mets will do what ever it take to get those guys and like I said earlier the Mets owner has all the money he needs to outbid any other team interested in those players so let’s go get them Mets !!!!
Rsox
What is whatever it takes? They are not free agents to throw money at and the Mets have to have players the A’s want to make a trade.
Jean Matrac
“Mets owner has all the money…”
You’re confusing two separate acquisition methods. If they were all FAs then having the money is relevant.
But they aren’t FAs, and all the money in the world is useless when you need to acquire guys by trade. If you don’t have the prospect capital, then you can kiss the acquisition of those guys goodbye.

@ Harrison Aaron;
You’re the quintessential NYC baseball fan. You embody every attribute those fans have – you know nothing about building a winning team other than spending money; you just want name players for your expendable players; think you’re doing other MLB teams a favor; and that no other MLB teams are going to go after the players that you want.
I wonder if 3 months ago you even heard of Chapmen, Manea and Bassit – let alone saw them play.
LOL
P.S. The Yankees haven’t been to a WS in 12 years. Today they’re stuck with a roster of overpaid, ageing, one-dimensional players that no one wants to trade for, and an overrated farm system that Yankee fans always talk up, but don’t want a one of them playing for the parent team.
LOL some more.
(I’ve heard stories about NYC sports talk show hosts that can’t take the ridiculous trade proposals their baseball fans incessantly call in. Those people need to learn to program computers or something. There’s no easy money to be made anywhere/ The rich kids talking about Daddy buying them a new bike..)

Is Harrison Aaron MetsFan22’s more annoying little brother?
bravesiowafan
@gbs42 at this point I’m convinced it’s just metfan22

Interesting Anthony how you again doubt the Rays giving them a 50/50 shot or worse for winning the AL East. That’s much better than they got in both 2020 and 2021, when they ACTUALLY won the East.

Values Rodon 3/70. Says Matz 4/40 was not a deal. Rodon at 70 might not make it half way thru the first season. He’s always had the ability but also has a shoulder and elbow of a 80 year old. I was at his last great game vs Astros last summer in Chicago. One hitter. After the performance he was toast. Did not make it past fifth inning
