Pirates Claim Aaron Fletcher

By Mark Polishuk | March 13, 2022 at 5:05pm CDT

The Pirates claimed left-hander Aaron Fletcher off waivers from the Mariners, as announced by both teams.  Seattle’s 40-man roster now has two open spots, after both the Fletcher claim and the Giants’ claim of Jose Godoy earlier today.

Fletcher has eight total innings (with a 12.38 ERA) pitched in the big leagues, getting brief cups of coffee with the M’s in each of the last two seasons.  Originally a 14th-round pick for the Nationals in 2018, Fletcher has some solid numbers over his three minor league seasons — a 2.69 ERA, 25.83% strikeout rate, and 5.7% walk rate in 153 2/3 innings.  The southpaw has worked exclusively as a reliever for the last three seasons.

While Fletcher’s small sample size of MLB work isn’t impressive, those minor league statistics were enough to catch the Pirates’ attention, and Pittsburgh will now get another big league-ready arm into the mix in Spring Training.  There isn’t much settled in terms of the Bucs’ bullpen alignment, so the opportunity is there for Fletcher to win himself a job with a good performance in camp.

No. This move puts them over the top. I’d say 112 wins now.

Lol such a funny joke. I’ve literally never seen someone joke about a depth move like this before. This is so original

Milwaukee 2208, is the 2208 in your name the year you expect the Brewers to finally win a WS? Bit optimistic.

Skeptical-It is the over/ under year.It could be long before,or long after.
Inasmuch as the current return period for small market teams is 232 years then it is actually realistic.

Don’t get me wrong, I would be cool with Davy Fletcher playing in Detroit City. But, what’s up with the affinity for him? Seems like a super random player, unless you know him personally lol

Dipoto is gearing up for some signings and trades. Gotta clear out some space for newcomers!

Perhaps of even greater interest is that with the release of Jose Godoy and now Aaron Fletcher today (both picked up on waivers), Seattle has created two openings on its 40-man roster.

Sounds like some kind of announcement regarding free agent signings is about to happen in Seattle.

No need to do this unless they have actual signed documents I’ve been waiting patiently for news on Bryant and Suzuki

Hopefully, Fletcher does well enough to be moved at the Trade deadline for an A ball lotto ticket, because, well, that’s what the Pirates do.

Yes, we could have a signing or 2 lined up. BUT we also need to clear a 40 man spot in order to take part in the rule 5 draft. Just something else to consider.

actually a really good pick up… for a waiver pick up anyway.

they gave up on him after a short sample of 8 innings after have a damn fine 2019 in the minors.

No risk huge reward talent. Only problem with getting him is that you take innings away from others… since there are few others… works out okay lol (/s)
