Mets Activate Taijuan Walker From 10-Day Injured List

By Mark Polishuk | April 30, 2022 at 3:41pm CDT

Taijuan Walker is set to make his return from the 10-day injured list, as the righty is the Mets’ scheduled starter tonight against the Phillies.  In advance of Walker’s activation, righty Yoan Lopez was optioned to Triple-A to create an open spot on the active roster.

Walker only tossed two innings in his first start of the season (on April 11) before leaving the game with shoulder inflammation.  The injury was later diagnosed as right shoulder bursitis, as Walker was placed on the IL the next day.  Fortunately, the issue wasn’t serious enough for Walker to miss too much time, which is a particular relief in Walker’s case given how he also battled some shoulder problems in 2019 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

2022 is a big season for Walker, who can enter free agency this winter if (as expected) he declines his $6MM player option with the Mets for the 2023 season.  Walker will receive a $3MM buyout if he does opt out, so for the sake of an extra $3MM, it is exceedingly likely that he’ll return to the open market in search of a much pricier multi-year deal.  Walker had a roller-coaster of a 2021 season, as his excellent first half earned him his first career All-Star appearance, but he posted an ugly 7.13 ERA in 64 1/3 innings after the Midsummer Classic.

Walker returns to a red-hot Mets team that has been getting great production from its entire rotation.  Getting Walker back in the mix is the proverbial nice problem to have for the Amazins, and the rotation will be further bolstered later this season whenever Jacob deGrom is able to return from the injured list.

Mets about to get a little bit better. A team to watch this year. They seem to have their organization back on track.

I’m that type of Met fan. Doom. Gloom. Pitchers needing surgery. That type thing.

Will we see the effective Walker from the first half of last year, or the ineffective Walker from the second half? Will we see the relatively healthy Walker from last year, or the unhealthy Walker from the 2 previous years? I guess we’ll find out, starting tonight.

Yeah, he showed his age and love for bad television. I didn’t even know of that show until he mentioned it.

If he just stuck to the Beetlejuice reference, then he would have only been my age, and would have at least showed he likes good productions.

          Marlins………….

” bad television”? I wouldn’t go that far. It only had a 2 year run because of the structure of TV at the time (single sponsor etc). NBC wanted part ownership of the show and the creator, Nat Hiken, said no. The sponor (Proctor & Gamble I think) tried to move it to another network but they didn’t have room. Hiken had enough and gave up. He never did another TV show.

          Yes I am old too

Hilarious Cat (name taken from Bob Seger?) I especially liked it when you posted “the sponor of the show was P & G.” I’ve learned to laugh at myself for the clumsy moves I make myself. Great to make your acquaintance Cat.

Sponor – sponsor – what’s an “s” or two in the grand scheme of things?

Yep, I had a kitten that my future wanted to name some name like “gumdrop” and I just couldn’t do it, when Seger came on the radio…..problem solved.

I’m pretty sure he moved on to his next troll name.

At least he’s not like fake fans like @CanoSucks. and @WhyNot. @MetsFan22 does the opposite of them by showing up when the team struggles and disappears now when they are doing well. Complete opposite of these others who disappear when the team struggles and is hear all the time when things are going well. Maybe he has the opposite luck of what @CanSucks has. @CanoSucks says he has a life in his explanation of why he isn’t around when the Mets are struggling, thus kind of indicating that he doesn’t have a life when the Mets are doing well…which is kind of tough to never have the perfe3ct situation. So apparently, under that premise, @MetsFan22 has the bad luck of not having a life when the Mets are struggling, but life is great for him because he’s gone because he has a life when the Mets are doing well. @MetsFan22 is probably going to Mets games with his lady friend (if that’s his preference). He’s living the good life, but my theory is he’s moved on to another troll name…which makes one suspicious of someone like @MarlinsFrontOffice who pops up right when @MetsFan22 disappears.

What do you expect when a guy lacks so much control that he fails to hit a batter he’s supposed to, sends the pitch toward the batter’s head and igniting a bench-clearing shoving match. If he had control, he would’ve dotted Arenado in the back, and life would’ve moved on.

MarlinsFanBase is obsessed. I’m a Mets fan and that dude posts 100x more in Mets articles than I do. And he’s been doing it for years. Almost never fails. He’s the tails side to MetsFan22’s heads side of the same coin.
