White Sox Reinstate Aaron Bummer

By Darragh McDonald | May 22, 2022 at 12:53pm CDT

The White Sox announced that, prior to today’s doubleheader, left-hander Aaron Bummer has been activated from the injured list. No corresponding move is necessary at this time, as the club is allowed to carry 27 players on their active roster for today’s doubleheader, instead of the usual 26.

Bummer, 28, landed on the injured list two weeks ago due to a knee issue. This is the sixth straight season of Bummer appearing out of the club’s bullpen, having thrown 198 career innings with a 3.23 ERA, 26% strikeout rate, 11% walk rate and 67.9% ground ball rate. He’s been moving up the depth chart to higher leverage responsibilities, having notched 67 holds in that time. He got off to a bit of a slow start this year, logging a 4.91 ERA over his first 11 innings, though it’s possible this knee issue has been a factor.

Bummer and Garrett Crochet were set to be the club’s top lefties coming into the season, though Crochet underwent Tommy John surgery in April and Bummer has been on the shelf for the past couple of weeks. In that time, the club has turned to Bennett Sousa and Tanner Banks as bullpen southpaws, who have held their own in limited action so far. Sousa has an ERA of 3.46 through 13 innings, though his 17% strikeout rate and .216 BABIP suggest there might be a bit of good luck buoying that performance. Similarly, Banks has a 3.00 ERA through 18 innings, though with a 17.6% strikeout rate and .216 BABIP. Both of them have options and could be sent down at some point before Tuesday’s game, when the club will need to shrink the size of their roster back down to 26.

There isn’t. There are, however, lots of bad jokes to be made, with most of them being the exact same joke.

what is the point of MLBTradeRumors.com when they do not have the courage to put in an article about Donaldson and Anderson ? I do not see what is racist about it when taken in context with the Sport’s Illustrated article. Now what did Anderson mean by the comment in the article… Change the game by taking one walk in 600 at bats ? Will Mlbtraderumors.com publish this comment ?

      Definition of Irony
TigerFan wants to criticize “1 walk in 600 ABs”
Also-TigerFan wears a Javy Baez jersey as he writes this.

Tim Anderson has more “walks” this year than $140mm “EL MAGO” Baez.

Sounds like someone else needs to change HIS game LOL

You don’t see what’s racist about heckling a person of color? Calling an African American Jackie or an Asian Charlie Chan or a Latino Pancho or a Native Anerican Sitting Bull? Let me guess, you’re not a person of color but you’ve decided to fact splain what’s deemed offensive for all minorities?

Donaldson mentioned the Braves were joking about the magazine article two years ago.. the magazine comment is stupid, out of context , whatever. Now Donaldson showed poor taste in heckling and maybe a lot of these players are not exactly alter boys. My point is the N* word and Jackie are not the same . Maybe if Anderson was the only black player on the White Sox but even then it all comes back to the magazine comment. I can see that Anderson may regret saying it and again Donaldson rightfully apoligized for not sensing Anderson gets upset. and it was LaRussa and Hendricks that said hey this is racist… I do not see any other black player making a big deal out of it. .

just read the 2019 article…Anderson is pretty high on himself…After showing off after a home run Brad Keller threw at him and Anderson called him a weakass white F*ng n*. Jackie played with class. Just a loud mouth but a good player for sure.Mr. Anderson.. As far as why there are not more black Americans on the White Sox heck they all play for the Bears. By the way Lions will beat the Bears twice this year. Start looking for the number one overall pick next year if you are a Bears fan.

Just stop. Donaldson has a history of doing crap like this. Take a look at the places he used to play, and you will see several players coming out about him as a clubhouse cancer. As for Hendriks, he is well more qualified to speak about Donaldson than any armchair GM or fan, he’s been around him before.

What the actual hell is that comment? They all play for the Bears? You really need to shut your mouth, you are digging your self a deeper hole every time you comment.

Summarize…Donaldson is a jerk you should not heckle black or white but since many pro athletes do heckle everyone is fair game.
          2. Anderson meant he was the only black American on the White Sox in 2019 thus Jackie , the rest were black Latino’s I guess.
          3. American Black athletes are choosing basketball and football as a better chance to the pro’s than baseball. Latinos have only soccer and baseball as a choice and can play year round. an advantage. that is what I meant by black Americans are on the Bears not the White Sox . no more comments on this by me…

Ugh, I hate that every post about the White Sox is hijacked and made into a Donaldson/TA7 topic. I’m over talking about it as a Sox fan.

As for Bummer, man, do I hope that this IL-stint allowed him to get right. He has had a rough season (even though his numbers aren’t showing it to it’s fullest extent). When he is on, though, there aren’t many left-handed relievers I’d take over him. So yeah, I’m looking forward to him taking the mound and seeing if he’s got his mojo back.
