I think the shots are finally going by the way side. My employer who terminated me over a year ago after I worked there 2 years never missing any work and always on time just sent me a letter a month ago saying basically “ come on back we no longer care about vaccine status but we aren’t sorry what we did”.

Honestly, today made me realize why baseball and north american sports just suck. Pace of play matters.

Today I watched what basically amounted to commercial free sports watching the world cup. I was flipping between the Thanksgiving day games. Just brutal all the commercial interruptions. Speeding up the game will be great for the average fan who doesn’t have time to invest 3+ hours 162 times a season

Commercials will rot a persons brain faster than anything. Bad ones in particular. I get 1/2 way through “free streaming” movies at times and can’t muster it anymore and just turn off the whole movie and put on music. Standard DVD’s 4 life!!

Gotta stick to Roku and Tubi. Commercials aren’t bad with them. Paramount plus is free legally if you know how to do it and only has 1 commercial right before movie. Peacock is free if you had concast or have a family member who will register it for you. Only 4 I will F with. Plex is bad. Crackle has more commercials than movie.

Forgot about Freevee. Their commercials are ok. I am just concerned about time length. I don’t even pay attention to what the commercial is. Commercial comes up I will check my trade rumors replies.

Pro tip. Last time I used freevee if it was a longer commercial I would back out of the movie and go right back in and it would be half as short or even only 30 seconds.

I am noy entertained by any kind of football. Cricket and Rugby are 2 of my favorites. Always take in a game when traveling or play it with the locals. American football is the worst. At least hockey is back and forth a lot of the time. Baseball is slow but at least you know when the commercial breaks are coming. I played it or trained to play it the first 22 years of my life so more interested in the front office aspect than watching the game.

Without sounding like a stereotypical Cards fan bashing on the Cubs, I disagree with Mark. I don’t think one “big” signing plus a few auxiliary signings put the Cubs back in contention. Too many holes and not enough players with potential upside at the major league level. They may be on the right path, but they aren’t there yet. The Central is winnable. But I think as of this moment, it’s still a two horse race.

I am only here because I clicked on it by mistake and made the mistake to start talking to Trumbo. A very pleasant mistake. As a non cards fan I concur. I think for the cubs to be better than the cards they need to bring in at least 2 pitchers better than stroman and drastically improve hendricks or not use him. Cubs have nice farm system though. Hey we will got a big name super stat but no longer that productive player with 2 months before they are a free agent. How about giving us a super upside prospect for them? Other teams are like OK!!!

The real question is where do you stand on Nick Senzel? Also, do you expect the Reds to aggressively pursue free agents next offseason? Finally, do you think any of these questions are serious?

I hope the A’s sign Shelby Miller to be the closer. He’s so fits their system. Veteran, cheap, showed lots of upside except for one bad outing that ruined his ERA. Surprised the Giants only offered a minor league deal. Averaged 2 K’s an inning

The Story question had a response that was part good and part bad.

Good part was the Red Sox have enough resources to never need a complete rebuild.

Bad part was saying the Story signing was a GFIN move. You don’t go into the season with a gaping hole at 1B, JBJ as an everyday OF’er, and a garbage bullpen and then expect to contend. Not upgrading any of those positions during the first few months of the season was another tell-tale sign.

How could the AL East be the most competitive? Did no one watch baseball the past season? Braves Mets Phils? Has no one watched baseball the past 10 years where the AL East has seldom sent a team to the World Series?

Combined playoff record of the three “powerhouse” teams in the AL East… 3 wins 10 losses.
          Cleveland swept the Rays 2-0
          Mariners swept the Jays 2-0
Yankees squeeked by the Guardians 3-2 but then got swept by the Astros 4-0.
All 3 east teams were swept in the playoffs.
Real powerhouse division you got there.

I wrote the other day that the AL West is about to pass the AL East.

Got a bunch of nonsensical comments back.

And the fact is that the NL East has passed the NL West but most won’t admit that. They rationalize it by saying “their teams just got hot”.

Bob – This year the AL East had 4 teams with winning records, and no team lost more than 84 games.

NL East had one team lose 93 and another 107, so no contest … of course the AL East was better. And if my team’s GM gets off his ass and spends smartly this offseason, it’s almost a given that all 5 AL East teams will win at least 87 games.

And if you go back to just last year, 4 AL East teams won between 91-100 games. You’d have a hard time finding another division with that many good teams since they went to 5-team divisions years ago.

What a division does over the course of a 162-game season is far more relevant to the “best division” argument than what they do in a 5-game or 7-game postseason series.

It’s called playing against top teams… sure you can beat up weak teams… but if you have to play a series against the best teams, they fold.

And why would you want your team to spend more? You already think they are better than everyone else. They are the best in the best division, right?

Last year playoffs… Red Sox knocked off the Yankees in a 1 game playoff… Red Sox beat the Rays 3 to 1… Astros defeated the Red Sox 4 to 2.
AL East record in the playoffs… 7 and 9. They beat each other, but couldn’t defeat the team from another division. Sounds like a division that isn’t all that dominating.

In the past 10 full seasons (not counting the 2020 clusterf*** playoffs) the AL East has sent 28 teams to the postseason with the next closest being the NL Central with 19 playoff teams in the same stretch. Go all the way back to the beginning of the Wild Card era (1995) and the AL East has sent 58 teams to the playoffs

        Here’s one more interesting stat:

This year the Red Sox were 26-50 against the AL East
And they were 52-34 against everyone else.

That’s unquestionable proof how much better the AL East is compared to all other divisions.

The Astros went 54-25 against their own division and 52-31 vs everyone else thus showing why the Astros are the best team in the AL. Conversely the Astros went 9-3 against the Yankees and Rays and 6-12 against the Red Sox, Orioles and Blue Jays (identical 2-4 records against each team), again further prooving how tough the AL East is

The playoffs are mostly about who is hot in the moment, not who the more dominant team is. If that were the case the Mets and Dodgers would have played in the NLCS instead of being knocked out by Wild Card teams

The playoffs are more about, the best team wins. No one has parades for doing well in a supposedly tough division. They hold parades for teams that can beat teams head to head when it’s supposed to be the best teams competing against each other.

So, the past 2 years of playoffs… no AL East team has beaten a team outside of the AL East.

          Not impressive.

I swear, so tired of seeing Braves questions about Bellinger. He is not coming to Atl. They already have a CF and a LF that bats from the left side in Rosario. They need a bench OF yes preferably from the right side that can play the corners when Acuna DH,s.

Belli has one of the largest holes in his swings in MLB, surprised FO are willing to accept/overlook with good defense. That swing is exactly what that lineup does not need, another high-K boom-or-bust bat. Silver lining to Swanson leaving is maybe we can move away from that, maybe. Reports are that Wash has signed off on Grissom.
