Veteran outfielder David Dahl has signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers, according to Triple-A communications director Alex Freedman (Twitter link). He’s joining their top affiliate in Oklahoma City.
It’s the third career NL West organization for Dahl. He’s best known for his time with the Rockies, where he flashed middle-of-the-order potential and was nominated to the 2019 All-Star Game. Injuries derailed his Colorado tenure, though, and Dahl hasn’t gotten much of a big league look since hitting .210/.247/.322 in 63 games for the 2021 Rangers.
After splitting the ’22 campaign between a handful of Triple-A clubs, Dahl returned to the majors this season. He broke camp with the Padres after an offseason non-roster contract. He got into four MLB games before a quad strain sent him to the injured list. After he returned, he was optioned to Triple-A. Dahl hit .265/.342/.382 in 17 games there before being designated for assignment two weeks ago.
Upon clearing waivers, Dahl tested minor league free agency. He finds a new landing spot with the Dodgers, where he’ll try to hit his way back to the big league level. Los Angeles has Jason Heyward and rookie Jonny DeLuca backing up their starting outfield of Mookie Betts, James Outman and David Peralta for the moment. Dahl joins Kole Calhoun as a veteran depth option in Triple-A. Steven Duggar is also on the OKC roster but he has been on the injured list since June 9.

the dodgers as a whole have soooooo amny guys on the IL so its not a surprise to see players signing with them. veteran depth at a minimal cost.

And Alex Vesia is still on the roster. I don’t care what batted ball in play says. He used to walk around the mound, rub the ball around, grunt a few times and blow bubbles before getting back on the mound to receive the signs. He’s a relic of the pre pitch clock era. He needs to stay in the minors and work on quickening his routine so he doesn’t feel as rushed. Can’t be working on this routine in the majors. Okc time.

While I think you probably have as good an opinion on why he sucks this season as anyone, he can mow Minor Leaguers down with the best of them already. I have no idea what to do with this guy. He just may be the classic AAAA player.

Not sure how this discussion got to be about Vesia, but I don’t see much point in picking on him as the main reason why the Dodgers bullpen is so bad. Rearranging the deck chairs doesn’t seem to be helping.

Freeman’s point may be moot, but it’s valid. When was the last time Vesia DIDN’T give up at least a run in an appearance?

Yea, I hear you. But it’s the proverbial deer in headlights with him roaming out of the bullpen. He sees the scoreboard say ERA 8.00 whip 2.5. Those are a softball pitchers numbers in beer league. He’s got no command. It’s a guess where the ball will end up. He’s not finishing hitters off. Hitters are eliminating his slide piece and sitting on his fastball. His confidence has got to be shot. Let him dominate triple a guys for a few months. But he’s not doing anybody any good right now. I’m sure every dodger pitcher who exits the game wi to runners on base cringe when they know Vesia is coming in.

He is a Padre cast-off so he will hit 30 HR for them.
Not a clever name
The A’s of the south.

He’s Colorado and San Francisco away from a flush. If he goes to Seattle, Texas, Houston, Oakland, and LAA, could be a royal flush! His career is a flush down the toilet, but let’s see how many West division teams he lands on.
disadvantage
Arizona, not Colorado. He spent most of his career in Colorado. But come on Arizona and SF, make it happen!

Dodgers won today. Let’s say it’s a tie game or a game within reach? So u want Vesia in there? With all his bs? He was useful for 2 years. What we need to realize is that most non-closer relievers are like nfl running backs. 2 peak years and then adios. Classic case. Time to say bye.

Such a great game pitched by Detmer ruined by mismanagement! He could have pitched another inning. and the dummies had to put Devenski of all pitchers!

Decent player.
SanDiegoSuperDissapointingPadres
Well, another ex-Padre that will completely rake off of the Padres. He’ll be another Thompson watch.
