Twins Sign Anthony Misiewicz To Minor League Deal

By Mark Polishuk | January 18, 2025 at 9:44am CDT

The Twins have signed left-hander Anthony Misiewicz to a minor league contract, Darren Wolfson of SKOR North reports.  Misiewicz will receive an invitation to Minnesota’s Major League spring camp.

A veteran of each of the last five MLB seasons, Misiewicz just barely extended that streak this past year when he appeared in a single game (tossing one relief inning) for the Yankees on June 19.  He was soon sent back to Triple-A after that cup of coffee in the Show, and was ultimately designated for assignment and outrighted off New York’s 40-man roster in September.

Over what was essentially a full season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Misiewicz posted a 3.90 ERA with eight homers allowed over 55 1/3 relief innings.  That trouble with the long ball obscured some pretty strong peripherals like a 29% strikeout rate and a 7.6% walk rate.  Misiewicz had a wide gap in his splits at Triple-A, as he dominated left-handed batters while struggling badly against righty swingers.

Misiewicz has a 4.67 ERA over 115 2/3 career innings in the majors, with most of that work coming with the Mariners from 2020-22.  He’ll provide the Twins with at least another experienced arm to evaluate in camp, and his chances of making the roster could be helped by Minnesota’s lack of left-handed depth.  Kody Funderburk and minor league starter Brent Headrick are currently the only left-handed pitchers on the Twins’ 40-man roster.

Since the Twins are always looking to save money wherever they can, what about repurposing Doug Mientkiewicz’s old jerseys. Just got to take a few letters out here and there. Could work.

Twins need lefties desperately, so this doesn’t hurt.

@BToBT. At least “this doesn’t hurt” is a low bar. 😉

Typical Twins move. From a career perspective, this guy made a smart move by signing with the Twins. He’ll get his chance.

Great move to get this guy on a MIILB contract as the Twins are in desperate need of LHP. They were in desperate need of catching depth too and last week acquired Cartaya from the Dodgers. Lots of news coming out about the Twins the last couple of weeks, excited to see what’s coming next. I wouldn’t mind leaching more from the Dodgers as they continue adding to their 40-man, is Ryan, Wrobleski, and/or Miller available?

While I have a complete opposite opinion of Falvey you might just get your wish when a new owner comes in. Look what Falvey could do with a $140m payroll, just imagine what he could do with $175m or $200m? He got the POHLADS to increase payroll, sign off on Carlos Correa’s contract, SELL THE TWINS. He’s Willy Wonka compared to Terry Ryan. This current roster is built to compete for the next 5+ years with little to no maintenance. He’s somehow accumulated all first rounds picks of positional players and nailed it with finding pitching later in the drafts that they’ve developed to be upper rotation MLB’ers with more on the way.

You realize he does not have a blank check to sign whoever he wants right? I bet if you got told you have five million at most to sign players you could not do better.

Mike Elias is watching his development and will hoodoo the Twins again for him if he sees something.

Why haven’t the twins ever crossed the 200 mil a year in payroll? What the hell are the pohlads ever gonna spend another 60 mil a year on) D ont blow smoke up our asses…saying you love the community…wouldn’t taking a loss on the twins just be a tax write off anyway?
