In the past these articles HAVEN’T been behind a paywall, if I’m correct. Shame that more and more websites are having to resort to this, DESPITE advertising banners.

There is only so much you can make from advertising. A lot of time gets put into pieces like this, so I can understand why they’d be put behind a paywall. They’re among the most frequently read posts on the website, so there’s clearly demand.

I also understand that not everyone may be in a financial position to afford a subscription, but that doesn’t make the paywall unreasonable

I’m just disappointed, is all. I did enjoy reading these in the past. And I’m NOT in a position where I can afford to spend an extra $30 right now (which, for a whole year IS actually very reasonable).

That’s totally fair. I was in that sort of position just a couple of years ago, and I definitely understand how losing access to something like this is hard to take

Are you on one of those budget phone plans that cost $15 $20 and aren’t paying for home internet? Do you never buy fast food take out eat out make all your coffee at home? Don’t subscribe to streaming service? Buy all your furnishings home decor used? Can’t mow someone’s yard or shovel their driveway? Have absolutely nothing you never use that you can sell on craigslist Facebook?

Or you just like to complain and cry poor?

Most able bodies can save or make $30. And for you it’s just $3. I don’t see you complaining on other articles and this paywall isn’t new so you only need 1 month to read the off season review articles.

Here’s one for the boomers. Did sports illustrated baseball America send out free magazines but you had to pay for the ones with every story? There’s so much free content available today.

Just type in how to make $ online. You’ll have that $3 in no time. Well as long as you do something other than answering surveys.

I believe this has been sufficiently addressed at this point. No need to continue berating them. $30 isn’t much, but in the grand scheme of things, something like an MLBTR subscription may not be the top priority.

I agree that it’s unreasonable to complain about there being a paywall in the first place, but I also understand if someone doesn’t quite feel comfortable paying for a subscription and I don’t think guilting them is going to do any good

Not guilting them. Just telling it like it is. They only need to buy 1 month and then cancel. If you are capable of getting online to complain you are capable of earning that huge $3. Giving us a sob story because they are just cheap and lazy.

Can’t afford the 30 bucks huh? How about less time on mlbtr and more time making 3 bucks to afford it. Maybe cut back your spending elsewhere.

This is completely original contest made by the writers at MLBTR, and takes them an incredible amount of time to prepare.

The ads pay for the “this reporter reported blah blah about Player X” or “So And So was outrighted last night.” You’re free to continue to consume that for free.

If you want 100 extra hours of work for deep dives into things that have already been reported and can’t be bothered to pay $3/mo for it, great, don’t purchase it and move on.

Companies have been charging for their work, and specifically for additional coverage, long before advertising banners existed on websites. What is new is people’s ability to whine about that into a megaphone now. I’m not saying grouches like you didn’t exist as long as capitalism either, but god we didn’t have to hear it from you malcontents every hour of every day about how unfair something is to you.

And I’m a millennial btw, not some cranky boomer. Wanna read it? Pay up. Don’t? Then don’t, no one’s forcing you to. And just because you can and have a right to do something doesn’t mean you should do it (ie crying to a bunch of adults about other adults who are asking for less than a gallon of gas a month to get a lot of additional content and tools that no one else provides.)

I like the frequent and timely updates on the site, I like the breaking news, the write ups are good and informative but the comments and the commentors are the big draw here in my opinion. I visit the site mostly to shoot the breeze and talk some baseball with the other fans.

Id pay some more for premium content, but would really like a different section of updates. Daily game reports, pregame reports and postgame reports. A lot to comment on there, which is what I enjoy about the site. Id separate the two – Trade Rumors tab for all breaking news and team transactions, Game Reports tab for all the games, Team Reports tab where you could click on a team and see any news related to that team, a Features tab for any long form articles and opinion pieces.

        Something along those lines.

Id also like to cache articles to my user account to read offline, like Pocket.

But what exists is good enough for me.

If you track how teams do in 2025, you could use this list to spot which bosses are getting the most bang for their buck—or wasting it. It’s like a cheat code for betting or fantasy baseball, hidden in plain sight, because people read it for fun, not for the big picture.

The Ilitch family gets hosed again. 30 Million for Cobb, and Torres. The good is that Tork seems to have finally arrived as he was projected to be. What a fantastic time to have it happen.

Detroit in first place after losing three to the Dodgers. The team looks very good with all the injuries it took and they are hitting very well this season. The Tigers are fun to watch, and they are playing very hard. GO TIGERS !!!!

The real “winners” are the teams that focus on sustainability, depth, and not overpaying for players whose best days are behind them.
