MLB Announces 2025 All-Star Rosters

By Mark Polishuk | July 6, 2025 at 4:44pm CDT

The starting lineups for the 95th All-Star Game were revealed earlier this week, and the league has now announced the rest of the American League and National League rosters for the upcoming Midsummer Classic on July 15 in Atlanta.  Each roster is comprised of 32 players — the nine starting position players determined by fan voting, and then 23 pitchers and backup position players selected by both a player ballot and input from the Commissioner’s office.

The league’s share of the reserve picks will help adhere to the rule that every team must have at least one All-Star rep.  This rule could also be observed via substitutions that will inevitably be named to the rosters in the coming days, as some players won’t participate in the All-Star Game due to injury or personal choice.  The starting pitchers won’t be announced until July 14, with each team’s manager (Aaron Boone for the AL and Dave Roberts for the NL) deciding who will get the honor of the All-Star start.

The Dodgers lead the way with five players selected, while the Tigers and Mariners each had four players selected.  Nineteen of the players in this year’s game are making their All-Star debuts.  Clayton Kershaw made the team specifically as a “Legend Pick” from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, in a nod to Kershaw’s performance over what is sure to be a Hall-of-Fame career.

Of course I’m biased, but there’s no reason Joe Ryan and Jhoan Duran shouldn’t be on this list.

Well, it’s not egregious, but Matt Chapman could well have been included for the NL, but the Giants already have 3 pitchers on the team. And often very good players don’t make it.

I think the Twins record was part of the reason. Small market and really good pitchers that aren’t the reason the club is winning. Not right but part of reality that steers the narrative in baseball

There’s always going to be more players that are arguably deserving to be an All-Star than there are spots available.

What does one thing have to do with the other? Earlier in the season, he wasn’t playing at an All-Star level, now he is, but the Mets weren’t going to get more than three players on the team with their poor end to June when all of the teams need representation.

There are at least 3 injury replacements to come (Sale, Bregman, Pena), and possibly 4 with Brandon Lowe leaving the game today. There will also be a few starters who throw next Sunday, who will have to be replaced. So some of the “snubs” will get their due.

I think the biggest surprise for me was the inclusion of two middle relievers (Adam and Rodriguez) on the NL squad when there were some deserving closers (Pagan, Suarez, Megill). And it’s not like either the Padres or Giants didn’t have other representation.

FYI, the Pirates pulled Skenes after 5 innings today (78 pitches) to make sure he’s lined up to start the ASG for the NL.

All you have to do is look at Randy Rodriquez’ stats on Baseball-Reference. I’m not sure there’s a relief pitcher—including Closers—who are better than RR. He dominates. He’s had one bad outing in 38 games!

When replacements happen and the league chooses, I’m guessing Seiya is pretty high on the list.

They need to get rid of the rule that every team gets an all star. The Marlins and Rockies should have zero reps. How does Juan Soto not make the all star team? How does Ronald Acuna make it, he has barely played? Seiya Suzuki deserved to be an all star. Get rid of fan voting and let all the managers decide. Or better yet, just let me choose who is and who isn’t an all star, I can come up with more deserving players then the ones that were chosen

It’s an exhibition game for the fans. Who cares. More fans obviously wanted to see Acuña in it than Soto. And every fan is not someone posting on MLB TR daily. Some are kids who follow their hometown team and those fans deserve to have their team represented in the exhibition game. They should also have a say in who they want to see play in it. The same whining fans whine about the same thing every. single. year.

Get rid of fan voting? Tell me before the season started you had Crow-Armstrong, Wilson, O’Hara on your radar. The fans do just fine.

And…by the way….guess who picks and votes for the reserves….the PLAYERS and managers. Blame the players if someone didn’t make it…nobody else.

its actually super easy and pretty much anyone thats seen a baseball game and probably even ones that havent would know why Ronald Acuna is in there over Soto especially experts.

First the game is in Atlanta and the home town hero pretty much gets in. Second Soto was dreadful for the first month and change for the season because he needed to adjust and people were pissed after he got the big contract. Third Acuna in per game has been better by pretty much every statistic and if it wasnt a herculean effort in June Soto wouldnt even be mentioned in the all stars this season and its a decent sample size and his history of it means it.

I love Soto and im glad he is swinging like he used to but it was just too much ground to make up to make it to the all star game. Probably gets in as an alternate.

@Roll Soto struggled the first month and a half. Acuna however didn’t play at all the first month and a half. Someone who has barelt played 50% of the games shouldn’t be an allstar

Zach McKinstry is the biggest miss I see, top 15 in WAR in AL, and can play anywhere on the diamond. But every team has to be represented, so sometimes you just can’t put everyone in that deserves a spot

Seiya Suzuki should be there. 24 HR. 21 2B. 145 OPS+, and leads the MLB in RBI. Several big snubs, but he’s the biggest IMO. Valdez, Caminero, Pages, Pivetta, etc.

Compare Busch and any first basemen. He leads ALL 1b in OPS.

Not really much of a snub though. He’s done a ton of damage in the last week and I can make a healthy guess the players and managers voted much earlier for the reserves.

Springer, McKinstry, Suzuki, Jhoan Duran, Ryan, Soto. Sorry fellas. Every team needs a rep, so some losers make it instead of the players that have worked hard but happen to play on a good team.

It is supposedly the “fans game” so i think every team having to have a rep is better than the alternative which could be the manager loading up the team with his players as reserves

What are the chances Jose Ramirez gets traded this month? Cleveland is cooked this season and they really don’t look like they’ve got a seriously competitive team up-and-coming for 2026 either, Jose is nearly 33 with 3 years and $69 million left on the deal after this season, plus he has a full no trade clause… but, I could see him wanting a shot to win and I think it would actually be a smooth move for them to trade him right now because they could extract huge value out of him while he’s still in his prime.
