You mean it’s smart to stockpile MLB ready arms just in case 15 of them are on the IL at the same time to minimize the impact injuries have on the big club?
Congratulations to LHP and future HOFer Clayton Kershaw for reaching three thousand strikeouts all with the same team.
Condolences to Max Muncy for a horrific injury sustained in that same game.
Maybe when MLB wakes you up and realizes why there are so many injuries…
Never mind, they won’t.
Everyone knows why it happens. Issue is that fans pay to see it. So owners pay players to do it.
Pirate’s fans reading the headline for this article with zero excitement 🙁
It’s not trading the guys that gives no excitement, it’s that we already know the return is garbage.
True. If the rest of the league know your owner is demanding cuts/trades, then the rest of the league feel no pressure in giving up much for the Bucco’s players.
Lugo is one of the many pitchers the Red Sox lowballed a couple years ago, he would be an excellent trade deadline acquisition for them. Which means it won’t happen.
BTW – Isn’t negative Exit Velo actually Entrance Velo?
Braves not selling?
It is July. Not June braves.
Amazing how that team absolutely $h*t the bed.
Like the mets started last season the same way. Hit rock bottom by June but then took off.
This did not happen with the braves tho this year. Are they really going to buy?
Translation: The Pirates are willing to trade Controllable young players but want a lopsided Return for such deal a la “Chris Archer trade- 2018”
Bregman is 31, and will be 32 next March. His market, should he opt out (likely will) will be interesting. I don’t think he’ll get the deal the Tigers were willing to give him last year. He might be better off opting in with the Red Sox.
Given the pitching injuries it would seem all the more reliable to stock up on pitchers than any other needs. like they say, you never can have enough pitching.
Pirates obviously selling but need to get an MLB outfielder especially if they move Keller. Abreu(Boston), Sanchez(Miami), Pages(LA) & hopefully ownership & management figure this out. Don’t get fleeced again, get an established controllable OFer
No way the pirates give up both Cruz an Keller for that package it’s funny what people think there guys are worth
If Cruz was available would Sproat, Acuna, Gilbert & Baty be enough to get Cruz & Keller? Before I get absolutely roasted remember the Pirates love to shed salary and have players making peanuts. Next season they could field a rotation of Skenes, Jones, Chandler & two of Sproat, Ashcraft, Barco or Herrington. They’d also have at least 1 highly thought of pitching prospect to trade for a position of need and their entire rotation would be stupid cheap with immense upside and still have depth. Acuna could take over SS from Kiner-Falefa, Drew Gilbert could slide into CF for Cruz and I think Pittsburgh is the type of place that Baty would absolutely thrive, he could be a utility guy until he established himself or they wanted to try him at 1B. Then the Pirates would really only have Reynolds & maybe McCutchen making notable salaries and they could actually be players in Free Agency for some offense while keeping their payroll low. I’m sure it wouldn’t be enough but I think Pittsburgh would think about it before hanging up. I mean all 4 guys they are acquiring in this scenario were top 30-70 on top 100 prospect lists in the last 3 years. I think Clifford instead of either Baty or Gilbert would really make it interesting but don’t know if Mets would consider it without an extension for Alonso.
Mets would get their SP & CF in one swoop. They’d hold onto their 4 untouchable prospects and be set up for the future as well. Next season their team could look like
CF Cruz
SS Lindor
RF Soto
1B Alonso
LF Nimmo
DH Vientos
3B Mauricio
C Alvarez
2B Williams
That’s an awesome blend of youth and veterans with star power, heck I think they should seek this deal and include Clifford on top of the original 4 they just have to make sure they lock up Alonso. Does PIT really say no to Sproat, Acuna, Clifford, Gilbert & Baty? For rotation options they would have
Senga
Manaea
Keller
Peterson
Holmes
Scott
McLean
Tong
They could trade that albatross of a contract in Montas even if they ate money on it. Benge would be waiting in the wings, team would really be set up long term too.
P.S.
I know just how ridiculous and big of a blockbuster this is and that there is a less then 0% chance of it happening but I do think it’s a deal that suits both sides well not just the Mets, if the Pirates brought in the right veteran bat or two they could be set up to finally come out of their rebuild and have a pitching staff the league fears for the next half decade. Plus if half the position players pan out they could fetch good packages a couple years down the road when those players are about to become expensive.
Why would you want to even put Cruz anywhere near CF? He’s been really bad out there. He seems lost at times.
No way the pirates give up Cruz an Keller for that package it’s funny what people think there guys are worth
Pirates not trading for someone’s garbage
Those players aren’t garbage, regardless if you like the trade proposal. Theyre all young players/prospects who have the opportunity to become major pieces.
I still think the Reds are going to actually go out and get someone. If they were willing to cut their loses with Canderlerio, then they may be a surprise team to add at the deadline. The Reds have a lot of really good minor leaguers who teams may want.
The player they should trade for is Suarez from Arizona. Having him behind EDLC in the lineup makes it’s much improved plus they get a solid third baseman. What would the Diamondbacks want in return? I think it would start with Marte. Other options would be Ward (Angels) and Robert.
The Red Sox were correct to unload Devers and his contract. He had an issue with Boston mistreating him in his mind. Fine, get over it. Deva Devers owed it to his teamates to do whatever it takes to win ballgames. He got upset with Campbell for offering to play first base…really? He was making 30 million dollars to help the team win. I wonder how the Giants will feel when they ask him to take the field but he says he can’t because he has a sore back or his leg hurts or he has a hangnail…
