Yankees Designate Geoff Hartlieb For Assignment

By Steve Adams | July 2, 2025 at 2:20pm CDT

The Yankees announced that right-hander Clayton Beeter has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Fellow righty Geoff Hartlieb has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

The 31-year-old Hartlieb only joined the Yankees yesterday. He pitched one inning, was tagged for three runs in that lone appearance, and will now give way to a fresh arm. It’s not how Hartlieb envisioned his call-up in the Bronx going, particularly not after such a strong performance in Triple-A. He pitched 35 innings for the Yankees’ Scranton/Wilkes-Barre affiliate and logged a 3.34 ERA with a 26.2% strikeout rate and 6.9% walk rate. That success came with some tweaks to his pitch usage, as the Yankees have had Hartlieb throw his slider at the highest rate of his career so far in 2025.

Hartlieb won’t get the chance to rebound from that rough outing — at least not with the Yankees’ big league club. He’ll be traded or placed on waivers within the next five days. He’s been outrighted in the past, so if he goes unclaimed, he could reject an outright assignment to the minors and instead choose free agency.

The Yankees were Hartlieb’s fifth big league club. He’s also pitched with the Pirates, Mets, Rockies and Marlins. The right-hander has logged only 80 1/3 innings in the majors and been tagged for an unsightly 7.62 ERA. Hartlieb carries a much more presentable 4.17 ERA in 261 Triple-A innings.

Don’t get your hopes up. More blasphemous postseason managerial decisions lie ahead.

Can you believe Domínguez has a 4 hits game and at the next game benched him ??

He had a 4-hit game and then got benched the next game? Oh that’s easy, the analytics department told Boone the match-up wasn’t favorable, instead of looking at the player that’s on fire.

“Domimguez has a 4 hits”..That is nuts to bench a guy after a 4 hits game. The guy is red hot. I was listening to a MLB podcast recently, where former Yankee Clint Frazier(Jackson Frazier?)was complaining about essentially the same thing.

Frazier said the Yankees analytics department doesn’t believe in “being hot” and he said after good or great games he was often benched the next game and never allowed to get into a groove. Only Clint Frazier or the Yankees know the veracity of his claim.

Frazier has a point, but I can’t help think that a lot of this is sour grapes.
It’s a shame he never recovered from his concussion, but he was given opportunities by other teams as well.

Finally Beeter coming Up. It’s about F ing time. Yankees are sinking faster and faster. If only they included Gil for Tucker and signed Bregman for 3B.

Lombard is coming Volpe beware of your job. A complete disaster of a draft pick. IMO was expecting All-Star numbers. Trade him before his value sinks any lower. Once again, the Yankees have problems with player development. The Yankees are horrible at drafting

He has close to 90 RBI for a 600AB pace this season, I find little to complain about with that performance
