Right-hander Jacob Misiorowski set the league on fire when he debuted in early June. The early returns for the lanky fireballer were so impressive that he earned an All-Star bid after just five games in the big leagues. Securing Misiorowski long-term is likely a priority for the Brewers, but those discussions haven’t gone too far at this point, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Hogg mentioned extension talks between the parties “have not occurred with any real momentum yet.”
Misiorowski tossed five hitless innings against St. Louis in his June 12 debut. He followed it up with a quality start against the Twins, and then five scoreless innings in a win over the Pirates. Misiorowski stumbled for the first time against the Mets (five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings), but bounced back by striking out 12 Dodgers. The 23-year-old pitched a scoreless inning in the All-Star game, earning a hold. A few rough appearances out of the All-Star break led to a 4.36 ERA for the season, though his 3.56 SIERA suggests he was more effective than that mark.
Extending Misiorowski is not without risk, considering his relatively light workload history and high-powered arsenal. The righty has accrued 233 2/3 innings in the minors since getting drafted in 2022. He added 66 innings in the majors this year. Misiorowski’s 129 1/3 innings between Triple-A and the big leagues in 2025 were a career high as a professional by more than 30 innings.
Misiorowski’s fastball averaged over 99 mph with the Brewers. His slider sat at a blistering 94.1 mph, while his changeup, if you can call it that, averaged 92.3 mph. The exceptional velocity on all of his offerings is part of the reason Misiorowski is effective, but busting the radar gun on every pitch can lead to a higher chance of injury.
Misiorowski won’t be arbitration-eligible until 2029. It’s tough to nail down what a potential extension would look like, given his lack of experience. The top contract handed out to a pre-arbitration pitcher is the six-year, $75MM deal Atlanta gave Spencer Strider back in 2023. Strider already had 134 big-league innings under his belt when he got the extension, including a dominant 2022 campaign that saw him post a 2.67 ERA with a 38.3% strikeout rate across 31 appearances. Eury Perez profiles similarly to Misiorowski from a talent and risk perspective, and he’s already had extension discussions with the Marlins. However, even at 22 years old, Perez has put up nearly three times as many MLB innings as Misiorowski.
With the Brewers reportedly worried about payroll, locking down Misiorowski at a discounted rate as soon as possible would be desirable. If he delivers a full season in the rotation with close to the results he had in 2025, the price is only going to go up. Hogg mentioned Milwaukee is “definitely willing to talk,” but that doesn’t mean they’ll be able to get on the same page with Misiorowski and his representatives.

Of course no traction. Dodgers are entitled to any player they want.
Where in this article does it involve the Dodgers signing him?
You people are weird, man.
If George were still alive he’d want him too
Yeah this site is called trade rumors not trade facts
If the Dodgers signed him it would be as a relief pitcher. I’m sure that’s not an offer he’d accept.
Im sure you get the point …….
He is not even on arbitration until 2029.
DUCK the Dodgers. He belongs to Milwaukee until 2032. They should wait and see if he can pitch a whole season and throw a couple hundred innings without any injuries before giving him a big contract.
Do you really think the brewers will be willing to pay him in 2029
Yes, that is his first year of arby. 2029, 2030 they will pay him. Maybe not 2031
The Dodgers never said they wanted him. If you need to duck the Dodgers you can try.
@luvbeisbol: Well, since he isn’t a free agent until 2030, your comment is, among other things, premature.
You do know the Dodgers can’t simply sign any player off another team’s roster, don’t you? Maybe you don’t.
@luvbeisbol
It may be the Brewers because they don’t feel like it’s needed now. So count that possibility too. I doubt the reason Misiorowski extension has no traction is not because of the Dodgers.
Astros, that was sarcasm.
I don’t get why so many people can’t understand sarcasm. I mean, it was a stupid comment. But I’m pretty sure he was joking. Although the Dodgers ican have whoever thry want at free agency time, especially if they’re from Japan.
We know it was sarcasm, but what bothers us as baseball fans–and sentient beings–is how stupid it was.
Lock him up now 14yr, 850mil. Will probably see a steal long term given where pitcher salaries are headed.
Misiorowski is not going to get 850MM
Really? I heard nightingale and heyman both say 1 million is the range right now
20 years 300 kagillion

I wouldn’t lock any pitchers up, nowadays. They’re far too fragile and don’t go more than 4 or 5 innings every 5+ days. Use them up and then dump ’em. Next!
Exactly. Pitchers only play 20%, 25% at the most of the games in a season. It’s insane they’re getting paid more than everyday good batters now.
It’s 5-6 innings. Not 4-5. And most of those 4-5 inning guys is because of analytics, not inability. I wish pitchers were green light to throw 110 pitches nearly every start. Now its 6ip 75-80 pitches pulled because 3rd or 4th time through order. Hit 90pitches in today’s game and next batter is your last.
He didn’t “earn” an All Star bid, he was GIVEN an All Star bid. It is still a joke that he was on the All Star team while Cristopher Sanchez had to sit home.
He may go down as the worst All Star selection of all time and there have been some questionable ones over the years. It’s almost as if somebody jokingly said, “He should be on the All Star team” and instead of laughing about it, they put him on the team.
The worst all-star pick ever was Mike Williams of the Pirates in 2003. He was 1-3, 6.44 ERA. Picked for the All-Star Game because he had 25 saves, and Pittsburgh needed a player chosen.
He was traded to the Phillies after the ASG. Went 0-3, 5.96, and never played again.
THAT was the worst. Misiorowski being picked was not even close.
I’d still say Misiorowski was worse simply because as you stated Pittsburgh had to have SOMEONE, so they were backed into a corner. They picked him because they needed a pitcher from his team and he was available. I am a big supporter of the “every team gets one guy” policy because the game is for the fans and it should be for of ALL teams, not just the most popular ones.
The Brewers didn’t HAVE to have him selected. They chose him from a pool of everyone in the NL. To me, that is much worse.
I agree with you that Misiorowski should not have been picked. What I disagree with is the statement that he was the “worst”. 4-1 with a sub-3.00 ERA isn’t bad. He was a flashy pick, that’s all.
Both Jeff Suppan and Kip Wells were having much better seasons at that point and were more deserving than Mike Williams, and either of them should have been the Pirates representative in the ASG.
He was like 8-10th down the line of that pool. All those ahead of him declined to play. He didnt blow with his 1 inning, why make a fuss? Had he just allowed 3 HRs or 4 hits and pulled then yeah fuss about it. Didn’t he pitch 1, 2, 3?
The results of the game is immaterial if you believe he didn’t deserve to be there in the first. Even if he went in and pitched 2 innings striking out 6 straight batters, it still wouldn’t matter. Yes, he had good stats, but he only pitched 5 GAMES. This wasn’t a rookie dominating for three months like Fernando Valenzuela or Mark Fidrych or Dontrelle Willis. This was a call up that had a good month. Yes he might end up as a HOF pitcher that deservedly was sent to 10 All Star games over his career, but that still doesn’t change my mind that there were more deserving options in 2025.
Cristopher Sanchez (and several others) deserved the spot ahead of him and it probably cost them money. Arbitration takes into account ASG appearances when deciding future salary. Even if they aren’t supposed to, you cannot help be be more impressed by an All Star appearance versus missing it.
Not to mention they had a 4 WAR catcher on their team in Jason Kendall. Mike Williams is the all time worse IMO.
He pitched very well, and threw HARD. Which isn’t that what they’re kinda going for at the “ALL STAR” game…. They had plenty of guys on the roster with better numbers than Sanchez didn’t they, but does Sanchez throw a 96mph slider…. Of course not, and I’m wondering how that seems to be so lost on the Misiorowski “haters,” not to mention he comes off as completely relatable/likable and is apparently into lots of this “millennial” crap, so how are those billionaires not gonna trot that out as their lil show pony…. The more u “dig” into it, it’s actually a total obvious play for mlb…. Which makes it all the more surprising they actually did it…. I also understand Sanchez was the more successful/accomplished guy but again it’s the mlb “ALL STAR” game and better believe anytime some “wealthy” demon driven lunatic gets to trot out “The Miz” and use him to make tons of $$, what do u expect…. If u made it thanks, Be comforted, the return of Jesus is imminent, God Bless!!
Not saying that Misiorowski necessarily deserved to be an all-star, but under MLB rules, Sanchez was ineligible because he pitched on the Sunday before the game.
He was eligible to be named to the team before that Sunday happened, but would have needed to be replaced for the game. But he would still have been considered an All Star and that is what really matters.
I gotta say though, a slider at 94mph and a changeup at 92 is actually batshit crazy. He’s not a free agent until 2032(?). Though the Brewers may not have the money to throw around like the highest payroll teams. I don’t see a reason to rush an extension unless you really want to penny pinch.
I hope this comment stays up because that perfectly explains his secondary 97 max slider
I wonder in the locker room he talks about wanting to be a Yankee too
Extension talks after 15 games ???? Someone needs to pull back on the reins a bit. He’s controllable for 6 years…
Writers like to wish these things into existence. Milw correctly keeps its SPs motivated to perform by “not” extending them. If they do well, they’ll eventually earn more in arb years (during which Brewers will trade b/c they reload/backfill with strong development).
Imagine the haul they’ll get for him with even just a year of control…. At which point if he’s been effective and isn’t going to give mil a “deal” it’d probably be best to trade him, look at Burnes, he’s hurt taking up loads of payroll, meanwhile the Crew had four years of a top ace (one not so great year) and now have Ortiz (who is a massive bounce back candidate after already having some mlb success in ‘24) and DL Hall who is another unsung hero/absolute stud for the Crew. Anyways they’ll get more for “Miz” then they did for Burnes, especially if they trade him with two years left…. Honestly if they got a haul (two top 100’s, two more top tens of the system, and some dsl guy with a cannon that can’t throw enough strikes) so at least four maybe five guys, I’d be thrilled to just do it now, get it over with and keep churning up that talent, right? ha, Thanks, God Bless!!
He was an AS after about 5 games, so there is always that.
No one is an All Start after 5 games. That was a cynical move to boost ratings and was totally UNdeserved. It was also an insult to pitchers who did deserve the honor.
Yes, when I was watching the All-Star game, I was disgusted.
Should’ve done it before he debuted, look how much they’re saving/going to be able to legit compete because of the Chourio deal, hoping Jesus Made continues his development the way Chourio did, because he’d be another guy to offer pre-arb. Look at what they have in Peralta and Ashby, both guys they inked to deals pre-arb. Ashby (who they have options on through ‘29) hasn’t been super healthy or effective as a starter but in ‘25 out of the pen he had a 2.16 ERA in 66IP 76K’s only three homers allowed.. it seems his floor is one of the most talented/hardest throwing lefties in the game, just the classic needs to cut his walk rates, anyway it’s pre-arb deals that are really allowing the Crew to put together the rosters they do, at least it helps…. Thanks, God Bless!!
“He followed it up with a quality start against the Twins” doesn’t really tell the full story of how dominant his first 2 starts were. He set the record for most hitless innings to start a major league career as a starting pitcher with 11 innings. He was actually throwing a perfect game though 6 innings against the Twins before the Brewers batted around and scored 5 runs in an extremely long top of the 7th, and it was only after sitting down for a long time that he came back in in the bottom of the 7th, lost his control, and gave up a leadoff walk to end the perfect game that night, followed by a HR to end the hitless streak. Brewers offense actually being good this year screwed him over…
The offense will improve and he’ll definitely be the pros pro and get used to it lol, God Bless!!
Why isn’t Misiorowki’s reps on the agency tracker? Could help understand why extension talks have/haven’t happened
Would rather they wait a year and see how he does for a full season. Turang should be a priority, Contreras too unless they think the kid in AAA (name is eluding me right now) is the real deal in 2nd half of 26 and starter for 27 season.
Jeferson Quero
Reminds me of Noah Syndergaard. Similar frame and high octane stuff. Noah had better command. But then TJ interrupted his career and he never came close to pre-surgery performance again. Brewers should be concerned with the red flags but if they can lock in his pre-arb and arbitration years at a decent rate, go for it. He certainly has the talent to shine so long as his health holds out. Who knows, maybe he’s the one to make it work and not get hurt.
“Jacob Misiorowski Extension Talks Reportedly Yet To Gain Traction” reads as though such talks should be gaining traction, which is an absurd premise. I understand that this is an internet publication which needs clicks to survive, but MLB Rumors should be reporting rumors, not fabricating them. Why in the world would the Brewers consider an extension after a decidedly uneven dozen games or when they have 6 years of control.
“Why in the world would the Brewers consider an extension after a decidedly uneven dozen games or when they have 6 years of control.”
To sign him for less.
The more “proven” he becomes, the more expensive he becomes
no traction because he was drafted in 2022, got a boost from the commissioner into the all star game, had an ERA over 4, AND HASN’T EARNED AN EXTENSION
102 mph fastball and 97 mph slider for a starter is enough to earn an extension he could be the next skubal
plenty of flamethrowers in the league who don’t deserve multi year extensions. TJ is around the corner for most of them
Teams with low spending problems with the union are trying to spend so it does not look that bad next year with the grievances.
It is harder for this teams to spend (or be force to spend), this will only lead to bad contacts on teams that can’t afford that. Did the A`s spend good last off season?
So if they are going to be forced to spend, is smart to do it with the guys you at least know and are on your team.
Why would the front office hold any extension talks right now? Not only is Misiorowski pre-arbitration, ownership is also “concerned about payroll” after Woodruff accepted the QO. Any deal that takes effect in 2026 only raises payroll further.
Let him pitch for a full season and prove he can get the walks under control. Then they can entertain extension talks
Adding Spencer Strider to this story
is a perfect reason to not give less proven pitchers a long lucrative extension when
they have arbitration years remaining!
That Mets game, Misiorowski should have got out his 4 run inning with 0 runs. Ump missed a strike 3 call, he struck out the next 2 batters thats 3 outs. Mets did the damage after what should have been a clean inning.
Mlbtr clearly drumming up something to be relevant this Thanksgiving weekend.
Brewers shouldn’t be concerned with Misiorowski right now at all. Winter meetings coming up right? Didn’t they also change the date for International signings to like Jan-Feb? They have guys like Turang/Frelick to consider extending as the cheaper chance in now before hitting Arbitration. There’s still Freddy to consider. Misiorowski is like 8-10th most important on the list of to do.
1st paragraph- that’s a story told thousands of times over, through the years in MLB…
This is the type of player you need to extend and hold on to for as long as his arm holds.
For how long do the Brewers hold his rights anyway? I don’t see the rush, especially as a lockout may be coming, etc.
The arm holding up is the key! Without knowing if he has had any previous surgeries such as Tommy John or the newer internal brace procedure, it only takes one bad MRI and he could miss 1-2 years.
Plus every player recovers differently. Any of them could lose 3-5mph+ off their fastball and that will just put them in the average velocity category which would make them worth a lot less than the money you will be paying them for how? many years?
If they are worried about how much they are spending next season, an extension would raise the AAV the longer it goes. Low-balling pre arb players is exactly how teams save money.
Extending a young, productive hitter – absolutely.
A young, productive pitcher that’s already flashing amber lights on health???
I really disliked MLB naming him to the All-Star game. Then again, the All-Star game itself doesn’t impress me that much.
I have no problem offering him an extension, as it would obviously factor in injury risk.
I wonder how much the potential lockout and any potential changes in CBA affect decisions like this right now. The rules for how long term (especially pitchers) contract have gotten out of hand theoretically could change.
Give the kid a year, wait and see how things go with new CBA and address it in spring training 2027.
This is a very good question. I’d say it has to be near top reason why not to guarantee money beyond 2026.
As a brewers fan, I’d rather have them sign Frelick or turang to an extension
Gotta be carefully with Frelick. He reported in 25 best shape of my life, but in 24 his bat was closer to Ortiz’ last year. Turang had the same with BSoL in 24 vs a not big 23. It’d be great to see Turang/Frelick show Durbin or Ortiz their BSoL strategy for a better 26 by 1 or both.
This is an interesting situation considering the extension Freddy Peralta signed in 2020, 5yrs / 15.5M with a pair of 8M club options in ’25 and ’26.
If you sign Misiorowski to a hefty extension and forgo a new deal for Peralta, that’s a rotten egg and will reek up the stadium.
Signing Peralta should be the Brewers top priority. Misiorowski, if he isn’t with a deal similar to Freddy’s 2020 extension, should be playing on a Pre-Arb salary this season and next.
Freddy deal was to secure himself for life as he said. He wasn’t a Millionaire like Mis is or going to be whenever the draft signing bonus is fully paid to him. Misiorowski extension will be much more in total even if just buying out his team control.
This is an odd report to come out soon after an article saying the Brewers are concerned about payroll. “No traction”? NS.
Why? The Brewers won’t let him pitch more than 3 inning or throw 50 pitches in the majority of his outings so until he shows he can last at least 6 innings & 100 pitches (even though that’s illegal in today’s baseball analytics) why bother extending him?????
He had only 97 or 98 innings pitched in 24. He had to be on an innings limit. He pushed through over 130 I believe. So the natural progression is 30-40?(pushing it) which is nearly a full season worth if he gets to 170. After 26 he’d be a full go then 200.
He should give The Miz $5K every time someone calls him the Miz. There’s only one Miz and he’s an Indians/Guardians fan. He’s also like twice the age of Jacob Misiorowskii
For a team that’s already expressed payroll concerns, they should probably be careful with a guy who’s a prim candidate to have his arm fall off before his 25th birthday.
Why would they even consider a contract extension. Hes not even pitched a whole season in the majors. I guess writers are running out of things to write about. So they print absurdity
Trade him while he still has value! Ahhhhh!
