The Angels announced they have signed right-hander Alek Manoah to a major league deal. Jeff Passan of ESPN previously reported the agreement and that Manoah will make $1.95MM next year. The Halos had multiple 40-man vacancies and didn’t need to make a corresponding move for the Covenant Sports Group client.
It’s a clear buy-low move for the Angels. Manoah was once a first round pick and top prospect, then became a Cy Young candidate as of a few years ago. But more recently, injuries and underperformance bumped his stock to the point that he was non-tendered by Atlanta last month.
The Blue Jays selected Manoah 11th overall in 2019. By 2021, he was making big league starts. He took the ball 20 times that year and threw 111 2/3 innings, allowing 3.22 earned runs per nine. His 8.7% walk rate was around average while his 27.7% strikeout rate was quite strong. 2022 was his first full season. He made 31 starts and logged 196 2/3 innings with a 2.24 ERA. His strikeout rate dropped to 22.9% but he also improved his walk rate to a 6.5% clip. He finished third in American League Cy Young voting behind Justin Verlander and Dylan Cease.
It’s basically been downhill since then. He struggled badly enough in 2023 to get optioned to the minors multiple times. He finished the year with a 5.87 ERA over 19 starts. His strikeouts dipped to a subpar 19% rate while his walk rate climbed to an ugly 14.2% pace.
Going into 2024, the Jays reportedly had some openness to trading Manoah, with the Angels checking in on him at that time. However, the Jays didn’t pull the trigger on a deal and he opened the 2024 season with Toronto. He was slowed by some shoulder soreness during the spring and began the season on the injured list. He was reinstated in May and then made five decent starts, with a 3.70 ERA, 25.2% strikeout rate and 7.8% walk rate. However, he then went back on the IL, this time due to an elbow sprain. He required Tommy John surgery in June of that year.
Manoah then spent the rest of that season on the IL. The Jays held him on the roster through the winter and tendered him a contract. They avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $2.2MM salary for 2025. They then put him back on the 60-day IL in March. He began a rehab assignment in July. Rehab assignments normally are capped at 30 days for pitchers but guys recovering from Tommy John can push that to 60.
By the middle of September, Manoah’s clock was up but the Jays had a rotation featuring Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, Chris Bassitt, José Berríos and Max Scherzer, with Trey Yesavage lurking in Triple-A. Manoah also hadn’t done much to force the issue, as he had a 19.6% strikeout rate and 12.8% walk rate during his rehab outings. He was reinstated from the IL but optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.
Later that month, the Jays needed a 40-man spot to reinstate Anthony Santander from the 60-day IL. Manoah was designated for assignment as the corresponding move. With the trade deadline having passed, the Jays had to put him on waivers, with Atlanta claiming him. They held him on their roster for a while but then non-tendered him. It might seem a bit odd to claim a player off waivers and then cut him shortly thereafter. Speculatively speaking, it’s possible Atlanta tried to sign him for 2026 but then non-tendered him when they couldn’t agree on the price point.
For the Halos, it’s a low-cost bet on a bounceback. The salary isn’t much beyond the league minimum, which will be $780K next year. Manoah also still has options, so it’s possible he could be pitching in Triple-A as depth.
Pitching has been a weakness for the club for quite a while and 2025 was no exception. The staff as a whole had a 4.89 ERA this year, putting them ahead of just the Rockies and Nationals. That includes a 4.91 ERA from the rotation, again ahead of just Washington and Colorado. Tyler Anderson became a free agent at season’s end, thinning out the group even more.
Going into 2026, there is very little certainty in the rotation group. Yusei Kikuchi and José Soriano have two spots spoken for. Reid Detmers seems like he’ll get a chance to return to the rotation but he’s a big question mark after struggling in 2024 and then pitching out of the bullpen in 2025. There are a few other guys in the mix, such as Jack Kochanowicz, Caden Dana and Sam Aldegheri, though those guys have fairly mixed track records.
Since the offseason has begun, this is the second time the Angels have bought low on a former big name. A couple of weeks ago, they traded Taylor Ward to the Orioles in order to nab Grayson Rodriguez. It’s a somewhat similar situation to Manoah, as Rodriguez was the 11th overall pick in 2018 but has seen his career thrown off course by injuries. Perhaps the Angels will make more of a surefire rotation addition later in the winter but they have stuck with the less certain guys so far.
It’s hard to know what to expect from Manoah now. It’s been a few years since he was both healthy and effective. He was averaging just 91 miles per hour on his fastball in Triple-A this year. That’s almost three ticks below his 2022 season, when he averaged 93.9 mph. Perhaps being further removed from his surgery will allow him to find a new gear. If not, the Angels won’t have lost much. If it works out, Manoah will finish the 2026 season with less than six years of service, so he could be retained via arbitration for the 2027 season.

Wow
The “perfect” and typical Angels signing.
At least he is cheap. That’s the kind of signing they should be doing… while they rebuild.
Yep….no permanent damage done. I’ll take it at this point.
Y’know Arte is already pressuring PMGM to sign the soon-to-be 32 y.o. Bregman to a 12 year monster deal.
If only they were rebuilding.
First the Angels trade away Ward and then they sign the guy that hit Ward in the face.
This move is deja vu all over again. The Angels have a habit of going cheap to fill out the rotation. They added Rodriguez and Manoah, both are cheap and talented, but both have to be labeled as question marks. at this point.
I like this move as a depth move or even security for Rodriguez, but I am not optimistic on him being a reliable starter. I hope the Angels plan to add another starter, but history tells me that this might be it.
For the price this one makes sense to gamble on.
Hopefully there is a Wendy’s close by.
Del Taco
There’s a AM/PM across from Angel Stadium on State College.
This guy is a tough spring training away from pitching in Korea.
Maybe Mike Maddux will, help, but yes I’m skeptical, too.
Speaking as a Blue Jays fan, he was actually looking pretty good just before the surgery, seemed to have mostly fixed his 2023 problems and his velocity had ticked back up a bit and he had a couple excellent starts. But he’s a guy who’ll never be able to pitch at 91 MPH. Doesn’t have the command for that, and it’s too easy to look slider if he can’t throw a fastball past you.
It might be what’s best for his career
Mike Maddux? If you gave Michelangelo Plaster of Paris to work with his statues would have lasted a week. Give him something to work with and I’ll buy it.
If Manoah can get rid of his “BIG HEAD”, shut his mouth, and just do what he’s paid to do, he could be excellent… The Jays got very tired of his “calling out the other team”, running his mouth, and then being pulled because of non-performance! He tries to impress with his mouth, when a real leader leads with his performance!!! He can be good, if he’s willing to just zip-it and pitch!!!
Didn’t know about that.
I mean why not. Was interested to see him go to a team with an actual lab but
They signed Mike Maddux as their pitching coach so you never know
Their major league video coordinator would be offended by the comment.
@steven hempel. Angels have a pitching lab since last year. Better late than never, but it’s probably one of the nicer ones since it’s up to date.
Nice to know they got up to date equipment somewhere since they have AC problems but that’s not all that goes into it
@Steve They fixed the AC problem over a month ago.
Thank you for your attention to this matter
Angels collecting lotto tickets is probably the best strategy if they want to win short term and long given teh team make up.
Clarification: The Angels have a pitching and hitting lab at their spring training facility in Tempe. mlb.com/news/angels-open-new-player-development-ce…
It uses the same Rapsodo tech that we use at our academy for 10-17 year old players. That is state-of-the-art, but not better than what other teams have.
Apparently its against the rules to use links to MLB . com on here, so you will have to Google it yourself. All I get when I do is “Your comment is awaiting moderation”.
The lab is in Tempe, not Anaheim.
@skips. Yeah I know it’s in tempe. Manoah will also be in tempe. Either way it was the 25 year old joke, that doesn’t hit the same because they have one now.
Manoah will be in Tempe until he is shipped to Salt Lake City?
I thought Orioles would give him a look for #5 starter
I’m glad the Orioles didn’t.
He mouthed off to, and was the cause of multiple bench clearings against, the O’s. In Baltimore we hate this cow.
Potential steal
Yep, still under 30.
Hopefully he chilled out a little during his down time. Reminds me of the quote “million dollar arm, five cent head.”
Nuke LaLoosh in the hizzy!
Exactly… well put!!!
Possible steal for Manoah… he robbed Toronto for $3M last year, now he’s robbing Anaheim for nearly $2M. Can’t wait to see the host of new excuses/phantom injuries he comes up with because he doesnt want to ride the bus in the PCL
@Bucs. He didn’t rob them. He played on contract that was mutually agreed on. If he went out and won the Cy Young award would been paid just the same. STOP with non sense.
Manoah the Whale is more likely to be the 5th starter in Salt Lake. Before anyone comes down on me for that, its his nickname given by teammates in Toronto.
In case this has to be moderated because it has a link, I put this here instead of on main comment. youtube.com/watch?v=nX9ufGaAPzw
I wonder how he will face the AL West. Remember couldn’t get out of 1st inning vs Astros in ’23.
“Your comment is awaiting moderation.”
If you want links to that, you will have to wait or look it up yourself.
Perry
Even though he was with Atlanta for 5 minutes.
You kept your streak alive by acquiring someone from Atlanta
I’m so disgusted that you’re so predictable. You should not be running a major league team. You should not be running a team period.
I am sure someone has a bat boy job Avalon. You have experience doing that. The closest you should be to MLB is if you buy a ticket
Why is a soccer ref acting so unhinged towards a baseball executive?
After spending a lifetime officiating soccer, the shear boredom of it broke his mind. Now he wanders the world, randomly shouting at whatever finds his gaze, the poor soul.
The human mind is a precious thing. Don’t waste it watching (or officiating) soccer.
There is a lot of strategy involved in high level professional “soccer”, so it certainly isn’t for everyone.
Those 0-0 games are riveting.
Baseball is the superior sport. Soccer is okay. I’ll definitely pass on Cricket as well, I tried it, nope…
Waist my time. I am a NCAA division one referee. I have had the honor at the college soccer final four three times. Once on the men’s and twice on the woman’s. I have 7 MLS games as a 4th official and 31 games as a VAR. soccer is the second most difficult sport to officiate outside of ice hockey
If you don’t like soccer and the ties that’s fine you’re entitled to your opinions but face facts. More youths in the United States play soccer than baseball. Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the United States.
You have a right to be an archaic baseball fan. Baseball is suffering a very slow death right now. They are hemorrhaging fans. And when the lockout hits next year, it’ll be the second to last nail in their coffin.
You walk around Southern California you will see more Barcelona Real Madrid jeseys on kids then Dodger or Angels gear
@Canuckleball. So many LOL’s. I do feel a little attacked though. 😂
You know more people world wide will watch the World Cup next summer than the Super Bowl. Think about that
I can do even better than that. The most popular sporting events world wide is:
Fifa world cup
Cricket world cup
(every U.S. citizen should go ahead and blush now)
EUFA Champions (for the uncultured, that’s soccer..again)
The Superbowl
So look bud. I laughed at a joke because it was funny and I can laugh at myself.
Ah sir, this is a Denny’s
MLB had increases in attendance and viewership numbers in 2025. Little League and High School baseball participation numbers have steadily grown since 2022.
Baseball is not dying. It is growing in every metric including attendance, viewership, and revenue.
MLS attendance was down 8.25% in 2025 to about the same numbers as in 2019. MLS had 3.7 million viewers per week across linear and streaming for the entire league in 2025 or about the same as a typical week for the Yankees. The US is not Europe or Latin America.
Oh, right. I’ll have the Lumberjack slam, with an extra egg over easy, hash browns and sausage. Also an additional side of Beacon, well done please. I’ll take a side of fruit as well. Gotta watch my weight not sure why that is. Coffee w/creme and sugar.
Says a guy on a baseball site!
According to the Wall Street Journal there were more Ohtani jerseys sold in the US than jerseys for any other player in any sport. Aaron Judge was #2. Luka Doncic was #3. Curry was #4. Saquan Barkley was #6.
Ohtani was not the only Dodger with a high selling jersey. Freeman (#5), Betts (#7), and Kershaw (#20) were in the top 20 in jersey sales in the US as well.
Only one soccer player was in the top 10 in the US. Lionel Messi at #9. There were 3 Dodgers ahead of him. Mbappe was the #2 soccer player in jersey sales in the US and he came in at #27. He plays for Real Madrid. Caitlin Clark of the WNBA came in just in front of him.
An Authentic Dodger (or any MLB team) jersey is $399.99
An Authentic Real Madrid jersey is $190.00
A replica Dodger (or any MLB team) jersey is $134.99
A replica Real Madrid jersey is $79.99
I understand your love of soccer. I am a season ticket holder for the USL Championship club in the city where I live so I love the sport too. USL is like AAA for baseball. As a soccer fan, your reticular activating system is naturally going to register more soccer kits than baseball jerseys.
Outside of the US, soccer is an extremely popular sport but please do not try to say things that are simply not true. The facts are easy to find.
Soccer is a distant 4th place to football, baseball, and hockey in the US. as of 2025.
Just to follow up on my earlier post
2.6 million kids participated in Little League in the US
2.5 million kids participated in youth soccer in the US
The soccer numbers are from the US Soccer Federation
In the US more people watched the Super Bowl in February (127.7 million) than watched all the MLS matches this year. That is just one football game.
In the US and Canada, more people watched the MLB World Series (238 million) than watched every MLS match including the playoffs and championship this year (125.8 million). That is just 7 games.
In the US as many people watched the Yankees in a week as watched all the matches in the MLS combined.
Apples to Apples my friend.
Someday soccer may be as popular in the US but right now its a distant 4th.
I live in SoCal and haven’t seen 1
@Soccer-Maybe you do in the areas you hang out. But as Angels fan I see Dodgers all over I mean ALL OVER.
I live here and have never ever seen a Madrid jersey on a kid here. I see kids with Dodgers and Angels gear everywhere.
“Soccer is the second most difficult sport to officiate outside of ice hockey.
I don’t see how soccer is more difficult to officiate than football, which is a much more physical game, basketball, which has a much faster pace, or baseball, which has an extensive rule book that demands extensive knowledge and experience to follow completely.
Beacon medium-medium well porfa. Eschew the crunch for the stringy “pull” and the texture.
Soccer doesn’t have a rule book,l it has a nice little A5 flyer
I think soccer would be hard to officiate on the physical level because there is so much goddamned running around. I bet you have to train your behind off and be a strict dieter in order to have the stamina to run that much and stay in top form for an entire season. That would be grueling. Mad respect.
Soccer flows more than the set pieces in American football and is a larger field added to more flow-similar to hockey. Yes, there are set moments/stoppages/pieces but can you imagine how many flags should get thrown during a 45 second NFL play?
Same amount of players more spread apart. As in every sport, you could call multiple fouls nearly every few seconds.
Haven’t seen too many porky soccer, NHL, NBA, NCAA basketball refs over the years. Can’t say the same with CFB or NFL refs tho. MLB mixed.
Far more interesting than watching nine three hundred pound guys play “made you flinch.”
Apples to apples is not U.S. to the world. Hardly anybody but ex-pats watches American football (#1 here) outside the U.S. While baseball and basketball have international followings, they don’t come close to the worldwide viewership of soccer.
For the simple fact that I am a huge angels fan and disgusted with what this joke of a front office is doing. They are all morons. Why can we not hire a “baseball person” with actual experience in running a MLB team. Hire a manager that is competent. Actually spend money on the farm system and make smart free agent decisions.
This is a typical Angels move
I love watching the Women’s Soccer team ever since Mia Hamm came and taught them how to play the game right. It can be fun when it’s played right and a colossal bore when it’s not. The women know how to pass , When to shoot and how to plan. The men are a hot mess. I’ll be watching the World Cup women’s team. That’s it.
UncleMike
I would rather watch and referee a woman’s game then a man’s game. MIA was great on the field and an even better person and a bigger star than her husband ever was.
The men’s game is great at the international level but outside of England sucks on the club level
My favorite player for years even when they had all the stars who took top billing has been Rose Lavelle. Her left foot was dangerous. Then she got her knee injured and lost a little but she’s starting to get it back a little at a time. Was glad she got the game winning goal in the NWSL Championship game and hope she’s healthy for the Cup next year. Naeher could be a big loss though but I’ll be watching. If they’re all healthy they have a shot.
Arte Moreno needs to sell the team. Right now marketing is more important to him than winning.
Thats a serious cry
I doubt Perry reads this.
Can he read?
Good buy-low deal.
@Stevie- Why would you trade for him? He was non-tendered
Marlins should add a veteran starter but a pitcher who is more reliable. They need this season’s Patrick Corbin.
But Corbin unlikely to be a good fit in South Florida. Ft. Worth more his cup of tea. Marcus Stroman could be a good fit.
I mean, why not? Grayson Rodriguez Alec Manoah who is next Tom Candiotti??
Shopping at the Flea Market again?
They’re shopping at the “scratch n’ dent” aisle at K-Mart’s Blue Light Special …perhaps one wrung down fron the neighborhood Saturday Flea Market.
Anthony Rendon – 245 million. Manoah-1.5 million. Both deals will probably be worth the same in the end- Not much.
Yup I’d rather take the free screen printed T-shirt that says “Anthony Rendon Fan Club Member #1” and where it ironically than take either of those contracts.
@Ignorant-okay you made your point
My idea for a screen printed T-shirt – two portly baseball fans sitting in the bleachers, one holds a sign that reads “No ABS in ’27” – like a comic strip drawing.
One of their hats reads, “Fire Tony Clark” and the other’s reads, “Manfredo, You broke my heart”
I love Candi as a commentator on Diamondbacks’ games, so I hope not.
See l, it would have worked better if you said someone like Bumgarner or Syndergaard. A recent wash out or injured player. Candiotti pitched so long ago, you completely ruined the joke. Do better, you ignorant son-of-b.
I totally hear ya, it was the first name to pop into my head. Good knuckleballer back in the day.
Oh I don’t hate the joke, just thought Candiotti was a bit much there. The Angels are easy targets, and sometimes we all get carried away. I’ve been know to take giant dumps on Arte and Perry. It almost feels like a troll job at this point. 1 year deal for the manager now. Inexplicable signings every year. Lol. Maybe Candiotti works for this joke after all?? Carry on Iggy. I apologize for stepping on your shot.
They already tried Candiotti.
Which one of those is over 60, and which two are under 30?
I just wanted to say Tom Candiotti that’s all. He was a guy I hadn’t thought of in awhile and sometimes that wins out over spending five more seconds trying to make my post 100% sound and cogent.
The Angels need many gambles to pay off. This is a gamble for sure. A small one, but knowing Perry/Arte they’ll now say they’ve replaced Anderson and Hendricks with Grayson and Monoah and can take pitching off their list.
Grayson was a good get, assuming he gets back to healthy he’s got top rotation upside only derailed by injuries. Manoah…that might be a $2M lottery ticket that returns nothing, but also worth a shot for a team like the Angels
You have to take that gamble on Grayson.
I like to think we’re due to finally hit on one. I’d love for it to be Grayson.
When he was on and healthy, Manoah was better than Rodriguez has ever been. Both missed all of 2025 in the majors. All Manoah cost was a little bit of money. Rodriguez cost the Angels their only consistently above average OFer now that Trout will never again be a full time OFer.
Yes, concerning. Their strategy the entire losing window has been to sign has-beens who might all reach their 90th percentile goal in performance in the same year. It never works.
@halosheavenJJ. Hopefully not they still need another pitcher. Especially with Rodriguez they might have to do a 6 man rotation or skips starts. Everyone is saying he’s going to be capped at 120 innings, and that’s if he is fully healthy with no injuries
They’ll say “ we still have Dana and Johnson!” That’s fine but we need a Gallen or something similar as long as they keep it to a reasonable price.
The Angels aren’t contending against the Ms and Astros in 2026. Signing an expensive long term contract with a guy like Gallen doesn’t make sense now. Manoah is perfect, if things don’t go well, they’ll cut him. If things go well, he’ll eat up 150 innings and they’ll tender him a contract for 2027. If things go really well — he was a 6.0 bWAR pitcher in 2022, is still only 27 and is now over a full year away from TJ surgery — they can trade him at the deadline, either for long term value or as a means for offloading the rest of the Soler contract. With everything coming off the books (other than Trout and one year of Kikuchi) after 2026, that’s the time to sign a long term deal with a front line starter. Tarik Skubal? Others currently set to be available: Shane Bieber, Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta, Trevor Rogers, Jesus Lúzardo, Shota Imanaga, Matt Boyd, Brady Singer, Robbie Ray and Patrick Sandoval (considering that the Red Sox paid $18 million for the second year of Sandoval after TJ, and Sandoval’s best season isn’t as good as Manoah’s second best season, less than $2 million for Manoah seems a bargain).
HHJJ
Right
Exactly what teams like the Angels should be doing – playing high volatility players. If everything breaks right, that’s their path to the postseason. If everything doesn’t, maybe a few do and they have a player that they can trade or a player for the future
RIP Alek Manoah
My favorite Manoah story was from a couple years ago when he was wrapping up his rehab (before his TJS). The FO gave him a start with their rookie league affiliate, and he got absolutely torched. TOR called him up the next day, and the rest is history.
Hmmm, I’d sign Jason Mamoa to pitch power spears (dude’s on a roll) but betting on Alex Manoah who last pitched in May 2024 (and did poorly in half a season in 2023) is really rolling the dice. But I guess two million to the pitching starved Angels, sure, why not? The big guy looked good once upon a time, would love to see a bounce back.
hey,if they are willing to give grayson rodriguiz a shot.why not manoah? i personally think they are grasping straws, but you never know?
Monoah finished 3rd in the Cy Young race in 2022. If he can get that form back, he’s going to be lights out for the Halos. Or maybe a Mitch Keller trade after this?
Keller is way overvalued by Pitt. Lots of reports at deadline they wanted a return more inline with a top rotation arm, which he isn’t and his contract isn’t exactly cheap for a 3rd/4th starter on a good team.
Better off signing Brad Keller as a starter
Fun Fact: According to ESPN, potential fits for Keller are Astros, Angels, A’s Rangers, and Mets.
AL West in the mix. Yes, Pirates must cover 6.5 million or something.
Reclamation project
That’s why we gotta watch rid of Ward, couldn’t have tension in the locker room after he hit him in the face
@Los Angeles “Thats why we gotta watch rid of Ward” huh??? Are you talking in your phone and not proof reading?
I’m drubk
I came here looking for this exact point lol.
Well said
Dude is cooked
I don’t see anything wrong with it. Maybe maddux sees something he can fix if not he will be released. Has more upside than Hendricks, and cheaper.
I heard he’s difficult to work with. Lots of potential if coached right.
Hope he gets his career back on track. He was really fun to watch for a time period and easy to route for (when he’s on your team)
Dumpster diving
That could be an actual steal should he get back on track. Pulling for the guy!
Now you guys are cooking with gas!
A typical Angels signing. Not necessarily knocking the signing but this is the Angels MO. Maybe it will work out,who knows. Manoah was an All Star in 2022.
ALL teams do this – take a chance on catching lightning in a bottle.
The Jays made a deadline deal for a pitcher who hadn’t pitched in the majors for almost two years. He helped them win a pennant.
The Dodgers signed a 3B who had been released by the A’s, and the guy proceeds to hit over 200 HR’s for them.
The Brewers got a guy from the Red Sox who was cut in spring training, and he proceeded to win 13 games for them this year.
Etc etc etc etc
@johnnyangel.
Yeah 2 million is just a drop in the bucket. We got two back end pitchers for what 3.5. Im saying Rodriguez because he’s probably going to have a pitch count, and innings restriction. Morton, cobb, and buehler were 15+ for bad results. Another thing is manoah has two options left. I see it as the maddux effect probably can get some low risk high upside players willing to take cheap deals to build their stock up.
Worth a gamble, he’s still young enough.
@This one Obviously, this is a team friendly deal. The issue is both Rodriguez and Manoah are “gambles worth taking”. Can you really get really lucky twice in the same rotation?
This is one step from being a brilliant move or a bust.
I like this move. Now if they can just pair him with Tim Lincecum, Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, Mark Mulder, Trevor Cahill, Dylan Bundy, Matt Moore, Tommy Hanson, Joe Blanton, and Alex Cobb, they’ll have a rock solid pitching staff.
Moore was good for the Angels for about a season and a half as a reliever.. The rest? Eh.
Matt Moore was descent reliever for us.
Several of them were “decent” (Bundy, Cobb, and Syndergaard, too), it’s just very funny how obsessed these guys are with reclamation projects on flashy names.
Syndergaard pitched fine for the Angel. He accumulated 1.3 WAR in 15 starts.
I’m aware. I literally said as much above.
Yikes. Tommy Hanson died like 10 years ago
I didn’t say any of them were bad, I’m laughing about the consistency with which they love flashy reclamation. Calm yourself, it’s not that serious.
A lot of teams try to find a diamond in the rough. The Angels get bagged on because they’re “The Angels”
I’m an angels fan, dingus.
Mulder was looking great until he tore his achiles in ST.
Titanic was a gorgeous vessel, too.
The Angels need to let the spring training cooks know they need to order more food for 2026.
@mustard. Maybe that’s the plan arte probably doesn’t have catering, and he could afford to lose some pounds.
Doesn’t matter what Arte thinks. MLBPA contract stipulates what the Angels must provide to the players.
It’s funny when people have confidence to make these types of comments about a 6’6 285lb professional athlete lol
He was closer to 350 than 285 for Buffalo in 2025. Maybe more. Look at the games he pitched for them in August and September. I was at both of the games he pitched in Indy in late August and he was huge. Pretty sure you can still access video of those games.
Google GAME RECAP: Buffalo Bisons at Indianapolis Indians 8/31/2025 on YouTube. I will just get a message saying Your comment is waiting for moderation if I include a link, .
Why? Manoah should have been out of the MLB a few years ago.
He was a Cy Young candidate a few years ago. Three, to be exact.
And Kyle Lewis was the AL RoY in 2020. Doesn’t mean a thing if you can’t follow up on that success in future years.
@Stuart He’s only been in the majors 4 years and hasn’t pitched last year
He’s a Bum
Same garbage getting from Atlanta again this gm doesn’t know what he’s doing
Why not! The Angels of a few years ago would have given him $10 million.
2 years ago $10M would have been worth it.
If it covered 4 or 5 years maybe….
I would like to offer condolences to Manoah as I have not seen many turn around their pitching in an Angels uniform. Seems LA in their name has not improved their status – maybe they need an intervention
With Maddux as th pitching coach that might change. And they did fix one reliever last year. Name escapes me and I’m too lazy to go look it up at the moment.
Brock Burke?
@orange2001. Probably brogdon. Burke was two years ago, and maddux couldn’t fix him.
@mrwilliam. Worst case scenario he has the same results as Hendricks. They have alot of holes so they need to get creative. 2-3 bullpen pieces. 3rd baseman, 2nd baseman, center fielder, utility guy, and another starter
Sorry Taylor
That you got hit in the face monah
You were even more on your way when you first ran into the wall
Your hand eye coordination will come back
Alex will pitch his but off for the angels
Paris at 3rd? Please. Paris swing has more hose that 30 year old screen door.
@Mrwilliam-Hold on. There hasn’t been any resolution in regards to Rendon
Oh he the one that hit Taylor Ward in the face he lost his moe Jo I hate this GM
As angels fan I love this deal. In fact I waschrping in here hoping the Angels would take a look at him. YesSir
“”@Los Angeles “Thats why we gotta watch rid of Ward” huh??? Are you talking in your phone and not proof reading?””
Lmao
Trash team making trash moves. Why do we suck?
This is a good, low-risk gamble. It’s not exactly out of the ordinary for a pitcher to struggle upon returning from TJ and then needing another year to find the groove again.
He will be a good addition for your Angels.
Manoah will still only be 27 next year
As a 24 year old he had a 6 bwar season, 196 innings of 2.24 era ball in a tough division.
It went off the rails since then but hopefully he’s healthy, this could end up being a great move
Correction he will be 28
I hate to admit it, but I love this signing. there’s no downside at that price and his track record isn’t long enough for an eye roll
Fastball velo was down 2 MPH from 2024-2025. His FB was never his strength, but going from 93 down to 91 is a significant issue.
Perhaps because of that, he has since changed into a FB/CH pitcher, so he’s not even really the same pitcher as before. He’s basically ditched the 4-seamer in exchange for throwing his change 25% of the time. It worked in the minors, but he’ll have a more difficult time in the majors with that mix.
For $2M, I guess he’s worth a shot. But unless he gets back to 2024 velo levels, it’s going to be difficult for him to stick.
I still stand by Anthony Recker.
Mariners broke this man
As long as Moreno owns this team, our pitching staff will be made up of one year deals for bounce-back hopefuls that never pan out and AAA quality arms. The result: 11 years from a playoff game and 10 years of sub .500 seasons.
How long has Moreno owned the team?
Since May of 2003.
Sell the Team, Arte
Arte Moreno bought the Angels in 2003. Since then? One playoff win. Two decades of wasted stars. And now, fans can’t even watch games on cable—just FanDuel streams and blackout zones.
This used to be a proud franchise. The Big A had energy. Now it’s off the grid. No plan. No vision. Just more patchwork and PR spin.
Moreno had his shot. He blew it. Anaheim deserves better.
Arte Time to go. Let someone have a chance.
Angels are on Cable and Satellite. mlb.com/angels/schedule/broadcast-affiliates
It is long past time for Arte to sell. I don’t think he can with that wrongful death lawsuit from the family of pitcher Tyler Skaggs hanging over his head. Maybe when that is settled. We can hope, right?
Is that suite still ongoing? I remember someone saying a year ago or so that if the Angels lose it could cost them a half billion to pay the settlement.
Yes. The lawsuit just headed back into court after attempts by the Angels and Arte to have it dismissed.
Watch, with maddux alone, add in another 10 wins
IMO, its worth taking a chance but the Angels had no business handing out guaranteed money to Manoah.
Yes, he’s a question mark. But for that price, did AA really think he wasn’t worth the gamble?!
Two million is still a lot for a pitcher who hasn’t been useful in a few years. Have no idea what happened to him.
He got humongous? I have never seen that much weight gain as quickly as he did it.
Fungo, are you the same guy on here that was complaining about delivering Manoah’s Uber Eats order? That discussion was hilarious lol
No but I would love to see the discussion.
I blame Toronto for this. the miss handling of Alek Monah. The baseball Gods were not happy. Therefore you don’t win the 2025 WS.
MM- the argument would be that nobody knew better then AA after he kicked the tires over the summer…
Good dart throw, Halos!
@gwynning. Wouldn’t surprise me if he picked the angels, because of maddux. Its pretty much do or die for his career. Im sure other teams of would’ve done for 2 million dollars.
Wut?!! Why?
What a loser
Not a terrible flyer
Wow
Great one Perry
Love it
Right now as is, the angels are a playoof team.
Yes I am opto mystic
This will either big the greatest steal in team history or another spectacular failure. Either way Arte still won’t pony up for quality pitching
@rsox. They have alot of holes, so they have to be shrewd with the money. I think they still will get a pitcher. They cant count on manoah or Rodriguez. Especially with Rodriguez being on a innings restriction.
I’m critical of the Angels but theyre doing great this off season. Trading Ward for 4yrs of a high upside pitcher, now this buy low candidate. They should have been doing this years ago. Theyre finally prioritizing defense too. Then when guys succeed their expectations add via free agent, ect.
@Aoe3. I think its the maddux effect, we will probably be able to sign high upside fliers for cheap deals, because its their last chance before they go to npb
Can get 3 outs, or 50 % Alex plus 50% Grayson equals ace number one.
That ship sailed.
$2M for a guy who proved he could do what he did back in ’22 and is only 28 is worth the gamble. Whether or not Manoah has the head on his shoulders to make it pay off remains to be seen.
Either way, it’ll be minor league deals from here on out if Maddux can’t “fix” him
As a jays fan, I’m glad Alek is getting a chance this year with a big league team. We put a lot of miles on that rubber in short order and he came up with an injury shortly afterwards.
G-Rod, now Manoah. IL filling up fast
We’ll find out
The good…
Well….he’s pitched at the mlb level.
He’s still relatively young….
He’s had a notch taken out of him when the Jays released him.
The bad…
He has problems adjusting to the time clock.
Questionable arm repair…
Still worth a look
Not sure what Scary Perry is waiting for. Halos are already getting the 12th pick due to some stupid technicality about not being allowed in the lottery two years in a row because they actually spend money on payroll. Sign Gallen already. Not like it is going to cost them the a top 5 2nd rounder.
Maybe Mr. Maddox can work some of his magic on Alex
Imagine being an Angels fan three years ago and being told you’d get Alek Menoah and Grayson Rodriguez in their 20s. At that time you’d be getting a guy coming off a third place finish in the Cy Young voting and arguably the best pitching prospect in baseball.
I guess at that point you might as well tell them Ohtani would be a back to back World Series champion too.
So the Halos get rid of Ward…..then sign the dude who shattered his face ……interesting
Baseball along with other sports is entertainment. Entertainment is not to be taken seriously. I could have not slid, and scored the winning run for Toronto in game 7. It’s pretty obvious that you can’t count on fairness. If you treat it lightly, you will be less emotional. You will be un dis appointed by events that are scripted. In 7 games the house always wins. Divine intervention up to a point. Yes, angels in the outfield, along with boogers.
Where else can you go and heckle the people doing there job. Could you imagine, yelling in line at target, to the cashier to speed it up, and that besides being slow you are ugly.
I don’t see this moving the needle. I am fine with it too. This should send a clear message to the hopeful. There won’t be a playoff run in 2026. We don’t have a reliable, solid pitching staff and it isn’t going to come together this year. So just fill the gaps with cheap hopefuls. Maybe in 27 we will see someone quality arms come up and we can supplement them with a #1.
Babe Ruth was basically fats manahan, vaudeville actor. All of babes stats are made up. To this day, I would wonder, what position did Ruth play. I couldn’t see him in the field. Now I know why. Babe is a made up figure. Babe was fats manahan, basically.
I could never see humphrey bogart going to the grocery store. Now I know why, bogart was one of many Fred Astaire alters, along with Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, FDR, George burns, captain kangaroo, Walter Brennan,
Believe half of what you see
Nothing your hear
How do you land on a moon that is plasma.
Time for bed champ, you’ve had a big day
Mike Trout must be thrilled for the add to the playoff roster.
This is more of the same from Minasian. So many $1M to $2M deals have been done by Minasian for players that will be dfa’d by June. Moreno and Minasian need to go. Been an Angel fan for over 40 years, and I’m not sure I can support this much longer. Sell the team Arte!!!!
Real fans don’t bail
Two things can be true at once: this is both a typical Angels signing but also one that any given team could’ve gambled on.
Not the Move I Was Hoping For
I had a bad feeling the Angels would patchwork this roster with castoffs this spring latest signing confirms it. Alec Manoah might have upside, but this one stings for more than just baseball reasons.
Let’s not forget: Manoah’s control issues aren’t just numbers on a stat sheet. His wild fastball in July 2023 shattered Taylor Ward’s face and ended his season. That wasn’t just a blip—it was a brutal moment that required surgery and derailed a promising year for Ward.
Yes, Manoah has plus stuff when he’s in the zone. That’s why he was a first-rounder out of West Virginia and why he looked like a rising ace in 2021 and 2022. But the walk rate, the wildness, the regression it’s all real. And now he’s in our clubhouse.
I’m disappointed. Not just in the signing, but in the message it sends. This doesn’t feel like a team building toward something. It feels like a team plugging holes and hoping for the best.
@Johnny. Check your calendar. It early December. Lots of time left. Also with Maddux as our PC maybe he saw something. Who knows. It’s a low risk gamble. Sometimes a change of scenery does some good. He had TJ surgery and it takes a couple of years to bounce back.
It’s December.
The subject is time.
Does anybody really know what time it is?
Every time a bell rings, an Angel gets his wings.
It’s a wonderful life
Sincerely,
George Bailey
Another Punch in the Gut
This signing? Feels like The song remains the same and no, it’s not Led Zeppelin on stage. It’s Perry Minasian and Arte Moreno making another Mickey Mouse move while the franchise drifts further into another episode of the twilight zone
The Big A used to be a destination. Now it’s a punchline. And the saddest part? The “Happiest Place on Earth” is just down the street, while Angels fans are stuck in a theme park of disappointment.
How many more of these moves do we have to stomach before someone finally changes the channel?
All I want for Christmas
Arte Moreno to SELL!
Arte Moreno shopping in the clearance aisle again?
I want Arte shopping at Macy’s, not the bargain bin.
Look at the last 10 years what top free agent wants to play here?
Players want to play in September, not pack up in July.
They want a shot at a ring, not a rebuild every spring.
if Arte had a brain, Shohei Ohtani would’ve been locked up Years ago.
Instead, we watched him walk. And what did we get in return nothing No prospects in return.?
Lock up the kids. Neto. Schanuel. O’Hoppe.
Build something real.
Because hope doesn’t win pennants.
Moves do.
With the price of even average pitching today, this is one of those if he makes even 9 or 10 starts at a 4.50 ERA its worth the money and if he completely p**ps the bed its not going to cost them much. Until the Angels do a tear down and complete rebuild from the ground up this is the kind of deal they have to keep on doing. I don’t believe that rebuild will happen while Moreno is the owner.
A so very Arte thing to do. There will be no top free agents signing with the Angels while he owns the team and I doubt the team will be sold while he is alive.
That is so typical for the angels that they sign all the failed big name prospects (even though manoah didn’t fail as a prospect but after 2 very good years as a young player).
Has any of them ever worked?
I wish Manoah well,I had high hopes after his first season with the Jays however his ego got in his way.
Buy low, sell high. Fear is for the other guy.
The Price Is Slight: Angels Edition
Host: Arte “Spin the Payroll” Moreno
Setting: A glitzy but suspiciously underfunded soundstage in Tempe, AZ. The prize wheel squeaks. The confetti is just shredded arbitration filings.
Opening Line:
“Welcome to The Price Is Slight!—where the upside is theoretical, the contracts are minimal, and the expectations are… well, let’s just say we’re not printing playoff tickets yet!”
Who’s ready to play?
Buy cheap, buy twice. For the love of baseball, get the Angels some new ownership already.
“Can anyone make sense of why Arte Moreno won’t sell the team? The fans are begging, the results are embarrassing, and the franchise value would net him a massive profit. Is it ego? Stubbornness? A refusal to admit the experiment failed? Whatever it is, it’s not baseball. It’s not winning. And it sure as hell isn’t love for the game.”
Arte is Billionaire. You think he cares what you think of him?
Arte doesn’t care what I think. But he sure cared when the fans booed him last year.
They ran that big outfield video montage—every player got cheers. Then Arte’s face popped up. BOOOOO.
Next game? Poof. He’s gone from the video. Like he never existed
What about the chanting SELL THE THE SELL THEM
Funny how fast he can disappear from a video, but not from the owner’s box.
You ever see Arte Moreno out front? Talking to reporters? Giving interviews?
Nah. He’s a ghost.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers just won back-to-back World Series.
You don’t think Arte’s pulling his hair out watching Friedman build a juggernaut across town? WATCHING SHOHEI OHTANI.
You don’t think he sees the parade routes and wonders what could’ve been if he’d just gotten out of the way?
while the Dodgers hang another banner.
The Rays just signed Cedric Mullins to a one-year deal.
30 years old. 19 homers. 52 RBI’sLegit center fielder. You’re telling me the Angels couldn’t match that? One year?
Classic Angels. Either they’ve got a bigger fish to fry (doubtful), or Mullins took one look at Anaheim and said “nah, I have a better chance with the Rays
This is the kind of move competent front offices make. The kind that adds depth, speed, defense, and a little pop without breaking the bank. Meanwhile, we’re out here kicking the tires on every washed-up reclamation project
JB- It’s December 3rd. Relax
Johnny you are all over the place here!
How would signing Mullins have been any different from the other “reclamation moves”?
My guess is if the Angels had signed Mullins to the same contract you would have said they should have gone after Bellinger (or fill in the blank).
For the record I am please with how this off season has gone SO FAR, for the Angels. They aren’t going to fill out the roster in 2 weeks, in baseball it is a process. That process takes several months.
No way in hell the Angels were ever signing Cody Bellinger.
Cedric Mullins at $7M? That’s more their speed—and even that felt like a stretch.
The front office isn’t playing chess or checkers. They’re playing coupon day at Big 5 while other teams are out here flipping undervalued assets
Bellinger was a fantasy. Mullins was the budget reality. And the Angels still missed.
Angelsfan1972 I guess you deal with pain better than I do
I try and see how the whole off season plays out rather than complain after every signing or trade.
In regard to Mullins I would rather wait it out then to sign him so early. There are a lot of better options that may pan out better than Mullins.
