3:24pm: These moves have now all been officially announced by the team.
1:05pm: Samaniego will be optioned to open an active roster spot, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive. To open 40-man space, right-hander Johan Oviedo will be transferred to the 60-day injured list, also per Cotillo. Oviedo was recently diagnosed with a flexor strain and will be shut down for six weeks. If he’s healthy at that point, he’ll have to ramp back up. That whole process will be longer than 60 days, so it’s not a surprise that he is bound for the 60-day IL.
7:11am: The Red Sox are promoting right-hander Jack Anderson, according to Ari Alexander of 7News. Anderson is not yet on the 40-man roster, so the Red Sox will need to clear a spot for him before the move can be made official. The righty is now in line to make his MLB debut when he gets into a game with Boston.
Anderson, 26, was a 16th-round pick by the Tigers back in 2021. He was plucked from that organization by the Red Sox during the minor league phase of the 2024 Rule 5 draft and has been in his new organization for over a year now. Anderson was utilized as a pure reliever during his time with the Tigers, but since joining the Red Sox he’s gotten some looks out of the rotation. After posting a 3.58 ERA in 75 1/3 innings at Double-A last year while being primarily used as a multi-inning reliever, Anderson finished the year with two starts at Triple-A where he posted a lackluster 5.59 ERA but struck out an impressive 29.7% of his opponents.
This spring, Anderson appeared in the World Baseball Classic as a member of Team Great Britain. He struck out three and walked none in three innings of one-run ball in his lone start for them. That came against Team Mexico and a stacked lineup that featured the likes of Jarren Duran, Randy Arozarena, Jonathan Aranda and Alejandro Kirk. Anderson’s impressive showing wasn’t enough to win Great Britain the game or help them advance out of the pool stage, but he’s continued to look good since returning to Triple-A.
In his first two starts of the year at the level, he’s posted a 3.72 ERA in 9 2/3 innings of work while punching out 22.5% of his opponents. Taken together, Anderson’s last five starts (between Triple-A and the WBC) have looked rather solid. He’s pitched to a 4.43 ERA while striking out 26.1% of his opponents. He’s topped out at 77 pitches in those outings (76 this year), so he seems better suited for a multi-inning relief role in the majors, but his ability to rack up strikeouts at a solid clip should make him an interesting addition to the big league pitching staff in Boston.
Anderson’s call-up comes on the heels of a disastrous start from ace Garrett Crochet where he lasted just 1 2/3 innings before departing the game. That left Jovani Moran, Tyler Samaniego, and Ryan Watson to each handle two-plus innings of work, depleting the bullpen of long relief talent. Barring a surprise injury for Crochet, it seems reasonable to expect that Anderson will be joining the roster in place of one of those long relief arms. Samaniego is the only one of that trio who can be optioned to the minors. Zack Kelly and Greg Weissert are the only other Red Sox relievers with options remaining, and while neither pitched yesterday both have struggled in the early going this year.

Crochet to IL imminent
Nah. But this is due to him pitching 1 inning yesterday.

Timing is conspicuous, but they wouldn’t do this so soon after insisting he’s 100% healthy last night …. would they?
I don’t think he’s injured. Garrett is very upfront and honest in post game interviews and he was just really pissed off that he didn’t have “it” last night. Not pleased that Cora wasn’t able to identify this sooner and left him in there to just get punished over and over but I get that he really can’t burn his entire bullpen so soon in this road trip.. but it’s our ace struggling not our #5. I saw someone mention that last year his velo was down the start following throwing 102 pitches the 3rd game of the year. Last night he was coming off throwing 107 pitches the previous start. So maybe there’s something to that? 🤷🏻♂️ Either way, if Crochet was injured I think we see someone other than Anderson come up. This seems more like a long relief move than replace a starter move
Sean – He didn’t show it on the field that he was pissed off, which is highly unusual for him.
And why would a pitcher trying to pitch through an injury let his opponents know he’s injured? For instance Lackey didn’t let on until after the season when he was having surgery.
I agree Anderson is not likely Crochet’s replacement, but it does seem weird the corresponding roster move hasn’t been revealed yet.
Fever, it was just after that last start we talked.aboit Cora leaving him in too long, too early in the season. Lack of build up, cold weather, etc just like id said then.
I hate being right sometimes.
This is why we cant have nice things.
GaSox – I was waiting for you to remind us ;O)
Yes you were right, we need to get you Cora’s cell phone number!
Fever, youve got to forgive my delay. Its like watching Cora fail to respond in-game within reasonable time frames is somehow rubbing off on me
GaSox – You’re always worth the wait, very happy to see you still active on the boards. You got any plans to attend a WooSox game next time you’re in town? With gas prices these days your travel costs must be up at least 50%.
Have a look at some Franklin Arias 2026 game logs when you get a chance. Leading all of MiLB in batting average. Went deep tonight. Starting to make headlines. Think we’ve got a legitimate shot at another #1 prospect in baseball real soon if he keeps showing this kind of production. 🤩
“MLB’s No. 26 prospect (@RedSox) is 12-for-22 with a 1.502 OPS at Double-A.”
Here’s a video of his HR from yesterday:

Mason White is hitting well too.
The fun thing about his development is that he burst on the scene with this crazy power stroke in 2024. Flew to the top of the lists as a 17/18 year old. Then last year the power kind of goes away as he sells out for contact. All of a sudden he’s this 18/19 year old with top of the charts contact tool. Elite level stuff at his age and against the competition. Fast forward to this year where he’s blended the two into a hybrid version of himself. Models his game after Lindor… and honestly… I see it.
Are you talking about Arias having a crazy power stroke? He was always know for being more of a true contact hitter not a power guy.
Talking about 2024 in the FCL. Not really a spot for an argument if that’s your goal. ✌🏻
Sean – Is the latest Valera injury serious? I feel bad for the kid.
I was at the game. Looked like he was holding his back but apparently it was his elbow 😱
It’s not gonna be universally accepted but… I’m in the boat that says if there is any kind of damage presenting and it’s not juuuust inflamed… get the TJs out of the way considering his conditioning, his body type, his age, and the fact that his mechanics are beautiful.
On a much brighter note… Got another good one cooking in Portland
Eduardo Rivera: 5.2IP 3H 0ER 2BB 9K (75 pitches, 53 strikes, 18 whiffs)
not really an argument. Just pointing out the Arias is not and never really was considered a power hitter at this time or before. Great contact skills excellent defense but someone who was projected to hopefully grow into power.
I think you’re confusing his current profile with the one that came out when he burst on the scene at the FCL. His body type and the fact he was signed as a glove first teen def suggests that power would not be part of his game. But make no mistake in 2024 after the power he displayed in the FCL, he went from being projected as >10HR power in the big leagues to ~25HR power with his projected power improving even more. Then he sold out for contact in 2025 and the power went away. Changed his approach nearly 180°. Anyways, point is he’s blending those two very different approaches this year and it’s working 👍🏻
Again Sean that’s not true. Going back to his scouting reports from his signing days he was always considered a glove first type of guy with good contact skills. His contact skills improved significantly but his power was then and is still now a work in progress. Not trying to start an argument just pointing out what his projections were both then and now.
From 30 on the scale to 80 to 50 in 2024 then back down to 40 in 2025.
Scouting report from 2024 said line drive power. Even the scouting reports back in 2024/25 say line drive type hitter with HRs in the mid teens. BA gave him a 50 grade for power in 2025 and they said specifically said mid teens power. No one was projecting 25HR power…at least no one reputible that I’ve seen.
Ugh 😑 not talking about when he signed or last season. Promise I’m not confused. Anyways all good bud. Go Sox!
Arias goes deep again. 3 games in a row. Batting .560. 440ft dead center 😜
Annnnnd again. 440ft dead center tonight. Make that 3 games in a row.
I know when you’re talking about. I’m not confused either. It’s nice he’s hitting home runs now but he was never projected to be a power hitter even when he had the 50 grade power. If this power surge is for real all the better but this would be a newer development.
Anyways, moving on…
Huge news. Valera is ok. Shutting down for two weeks but all good 👍🏻
Anderson is a relief pitcher. If Crochet was going on IL they would bring up a starter
Mike – Please click on Anderson’s link above. He’s been a SP with Worcester.
Anderson was utilized as a pure reliever during his time with the Tigers, but since joining the Red Sox he’s gotten some looks out of the rotation.
Red Sox dont have a long reliever right now. They’re not going to promote a guy who hasnt pitched since last week, just to sit on the bench until Crochet’s next turn.If they wanted him to start, management wouldve waited until Crochet’s next start before promoting him.
If Crochet isnt going on his next turn, they’ll promote someone (Tolle?) to replace Anderson.
Fully agree Red Sox. Short term move for the pen barring an undisclosed injury for a starter not named Crochet. Expect a DFA and if not picked up by another club, he’s back in Worcester.
Dewey:
I dont think youll need to DFA him. Send Samaniego down for a few days of rest, then bring him right back when Sox are ready, and send Anderson down. Unless, as you said, ‘assuming noone’s injured, that hasnt been made public’.
If they were after a starter, why wouldn’t they promote Tolle?
bass – He pitched just 2 days ago.
This move also wouldn’t need to be made until he’s ready if they wanted a starter
FPG
This is highly concerning.!!!! A pitcher going way past 200 innings last year for the 1st time and coming off a 107 pitch outing so early in the season. How he performs in his next start could be the most important game of this young season. We have all seen this type of situation play out before .. He is by far the most important player on this team. I don’t even like thinking about it .
cdc – hi!
I wouldn’t put a lot of weight into his next performance. Since March 21 he has been awful every other start. I think he’s fighting through some type of physical issue, we all know pitchers can pitch through certain physical issues … remember Lackey pitching hurt all year before getting surgery.
The fact he didn’t get angry or fall back on his 98MPH heater leads me to believe it’s health related.
FPG
That’s exactly what I’m saying… He could be hurt .. Disaster .. he couldn’t fall back on his 98 mph heater because he couldn’t.a Lackey type situation would mean mediocre this season and out next.. Disaster. Any hope for this season is in the health of Crochets left arm . I am very concerned.. his next start is crucial to any success the Sox Hope to have …
He wouldn’t need to pitch for another 4 days if he was replacing Crochet in the rotation.
Sean – Unless Cora wanted to give the entire rotation an extra day of rest.
Cdc- I think much of the start of the season has been concerning. I don’t want to panic about Crochet yet. Clearly something has been off with him much of the spring, but I am just hoping it is a mental issue (overthinking it) and he just needs some adjustments. I think if it is something serious he would know better than to hide it and he seems pretty straight up with his interviews. If he has a serious injury and he is lying about it he is going to lose trust and respect from the fans. That is not to say he couldn’t have something minor that he has no reason to share. Hoping he will improve next time. I am just waiting to see more consistency with offense, defense, and pitching. Fingers crossed that they just need to get into a groove and get some confidence back.
Uncle – If forced to choose between Crochet with a 3.75 ERA thru 2027 or Crochet having surgery and being out thru 2027, which would you choose? If he’s hiding an injury I have zero issue with it. He already has the contract, it’s not like what Giolito did 2 years ago.
I’ve seen this so many times, a pitcher underperforming for a year or two and then surgery is needed. I give them credit for wanting to pitch instead of getting paid to recover a long time.
They are getting Skubal & Valdez this weekend, it will be a good test for the Sox. Rafaela with another HBP today, I wouldn’t be surprise if he, Durbin and Contreras reach 60 combined this season.
And I’m so happy for Story, he continues to silence his critics.
Fever- If Crochet can manage to pitch through the season to a 3.75 ERA that would be one thing. With his disastrous last outing the concern would be that he is not going to be much help to the team and could turn something less serious into a major injury. If he is injured I hope he is getting it checked out. My hope is that it is not something that will require surgery. I would rather have him rest and recover now and potentially come back full strength for part of the season. I would imagine we will get a better feel for his condition after his next start.
Yesterday’s game was a huge boost for everyone on the team with the exception of Watson. We need a few more of those wins.
APDK
More consistency from offense, defense and pitching would be great. Throw in a better understanding of ABS and dugout harmony . We need something good to happen with a quickness.
Fever- Obviously we could not compete with either Skubal or Valdez. At least Crochet got through 5 innings but definitely not putting up ace numbers and the offense continues to be asleep at the wheel. Unless we can start holding the other teams to one run we are not going to win games.
Is Duran injured or is he out because of flipping off the jerk that was taunting him? Saw that he was out the last two games. Not sure why Cora is just giving Yoshida an occasional pinch hit, he needs to get more at bats to try to get something going. I understand going with your hot hitters, but we don’t exactly have many of those.
The bigger the whole we dig, the less likely we are going to get out of it even when many of the other teams are playing equally bad. I will try to stay positive but it is difficult when our ace is pitching more like a #5 starter.
Uncle – It’s because Cora again used the DH spot to get an extra RHB into the game. When that happens, instead of 5 OF for 4 spots, it’s 5 OF for 3 spots.
Roman & Abreu will play almost every day, that leaves Duran and Yoshida as the odd men out vs LHP.
Anderson is here as a placeholder and long relief. If Crochet (big if) cant go on his next turn, Tolle will be brought up and replace Anderson.
Sounds like Anderson will be doing the Worcester Shuffle this season. He’d better purchase an EZPass.
Assuming Crochet is injured and needs to be IL’d (which they haven’t given any indication is the case), they could call up Anderson to pitch some long relief innings over the next few days, then send him down and bring up Tolle when Crochet’s spot in the rotation comes back around.
This is possible, but considering that Anderson is viewed in scouting reports as an ‘org arm’ it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s DFAd in short time to re-open a 40 spot rather than being sent back down.
The Red Sox transaction when replacing him will give us a better idea of what they think of him.
Sure, depends on if the organization needs a 40-man spot when they’re ready to replace Anderson on the major league roster. If they don’t, they can option him back to Worcester and if they do, they can D him FA. There is value in a guy with options who can throw even vaguely passable big league innings. Whether Anderson can do that or not is yet to be determined.
ultra:
Spot on. Anderson will go back down.
SPs Tolle, Bennett, Uberstine, Sandoval (rehab), and Crawford (rehab) all better pitchers than Anderson, and are already on the 40-man.
Crochet’s start reminds of a Bob Gibson story. Gibby was getting rocked but everyone was afraid to go to the mound. Finally the manager came out and took the ball. Gibson looked up and said, “Where the hell have you been, I got nothing.”
Hopefully just a hiccup…. It’s happened to all the Red Sox greats.. Pedro, Roger, Lester, all except 70….
olm – No other pitcher in Sox history has given up 10 ER in less than 2 innings!
I give up …. 70?
18 more days!!!!!
I give up…, 18 more days?
🏇A little race from my ol Kentucky home
Gary… have to ask… What was your hat of choice this year?? Mrs Brais wanted to get me a new one for our upcoming trip to Colorado but I found my 07 championship and that will do nicely..
olm – Is that the same hat Pap took off his head and squeezed right after getting the final out?
FPG!!! Best reaction ever!! Told Mrs Brais, that would be the best to have a few cold ones with him there, but I don’t think he does road trips…
olm – I bought that picture signed, of him doing the crazy face right after the final out.
I also bought the one of him smoking a cigar while pouring a can of beer on the AL trophy.
If you follow football, he’s basically the Gronk of baseball.
And I was right there, front row when the Sox clinched their first division title in ages and Pap was doing his dance in his skivvies with a cardboard Bud Light box covering his head.
God those were great times!
olmtiant, new hat? I chose the Marcelo Mayer special. Dark blue, big red B on the front and I sure hope it makes it the entire season !!
(Tri fold humor intended, because it works with my history of burning the hat sometime in August every year, my failed prediction of Marcelo starting the year in AAA, and Mayer’s injury history.)
Second best reaction ever?
Hey olm, your boy Brais never allowed double digit runs in 1+ IP… Just throwing that out there for you as a carrot.
GAS!!!! LMAO!!! Maybe not??? Just seemed that way I guess….
olm – The most Bras ever gave up was 4 runs in just a third of an inning …. so I guess you could say that makes him better than Crochet!
FPG….What has been troubling is the few games I’ve seen him pitch he’s went to his cutter, way more than his 4 seam… can’t remember seeing a 4 seem consistent over 94-95…. As for 70… how soon to forget….
olm – Ahhh …. you had me thinking starting pitchers, not relievers!
FPG
Another Duran incident in yesterdays game . That’s very unfortunate.. it’s an annual occurrence now. He should not have to be subjected to probably drunk , irrational ,low intelligence fan heckling, but he must learn to deal with it in a better manner. Every game there is a new low to the season. How much lower can this team sink??? What’s next???
FPG, give me some good news….
cdc – hi!
Well my Tesla stock is way up today, but you probably want just good Red Sox news?
I still believe several players are underperforming, therefore they will improve. Crochet, Ranger, Bello, Roman, Duran, Durbin, Mayer and Narvaez are all going to improve. Also Anderson looked great last night, although he will probably get sent down no matter what.
As for Duran, I have mixed feelings. While I agree athletes should have very thick skin when it comes to verbal taunts, I think Duran needs to release his anger when the taunts cross the line otherwise it will negatively impact his game.
Remember last year when similar happened in Cleveland, he cursed out the fan and players kept him away from the stands. He received no fine or suspension, so I doubt anything will come of it this time.
Frankly I’m more concerned about the Contreras back situation. Thankfully he hasn’t had back issues before, so I’m thinking he will be able to avoid the IL.
If Yoshida doesn’t get more playing time, I think that will be the next fire …. he’s been super-patient the past couple years, but I can’t blame him for getting upset now.
FPG
Nice,,your Tesla stock is up. Cool
Interesting take on Yoshida, does not seem like the type of player to vent . I would be surprised if he were to publicly get upset.
When Duran is on ,he is one of my most favorite players to watch. His personal issues are well known and should be taken seriously. But lashing out at aggressively stupid hecklers is not the answer. He must know it’s going to happen (heckling) he has to learn to deal with it in a more mature way. Be the bigger person. It’s got to be tough on him. It’s a shame anyone has to deal with these issues.
Can we get 6 solid innings out of Early today and get a win.
cdc – hi!
Actually Yoshida already complained at least once, back in 2024. He felt he could have been used more in the outfield, but Cora let him play only one inning (he gave two differing reasons). I don’t think it would be publicly.
When a fan says something like that to someone who has tried to end his life in the past, that’s crossing the line. They removed and banned the fan in Cleveland, not sure if they did anything in Minnesota though.
6 innings from Early is asking too much, I’d be happy with at least 5.
I think you should give this a little more thought before labeling it “another Duran incident” as if he did something in any way similar to the one and only “Duran incident”. Think about it some more. I think what we saw was actually something much different and something that should not get publicized as “another Duran incident”. Cheers
Jack Anderson was a controversial columnist in the 1970s and 1980s.
Controversial? Only by today’s metrics.
His head would explode if he was alive today.
Beset by the nattering nabobs and other traitors, Nixon went so far as to create an enemies list, tallying up all the celebrities, politicians and journalists who had it in for him. The list included 56 television reporters, newspaper columnists, and others; the New York Times, Washington Post, NBC and CBS were all well represented. At the top was the syndicated columnist Jack Anderson. Nixon’s conspirators, among them former FBI and CIA agents, actually considered putting LSD on Anderson’s steering wheel or spiking one of his drinks with an undetectable poison.
Tarik Skubal left start against Twins in 5th inning last week. They are just hitting good against LH SP this month. Hope Crochet bounces back but lowering ERA will be a season long issue now. Probably barely a Top 5 or 10 CY Young vote placement this season, if he makes rest of his regular starts.
Yes, good point and Skenes got hammered too in his first start this year.
Happens to the best of em.
By the … Mets.
Also put up 8 runs against Framber Valdez.
Maybe some form of home field advantage against LH SP, tipping of pitches by visiting LH SP, and last least favorite thing to say maybe cheating is happening again.
dlj – Well that went out the window today with Early pitching a gem.
I think it’s more likely the new manager and coaching staff have made drastic changes which have caught opponents off-guard, similar to how Bailey came to the Sox and made a bunch of huge changes and the pitching staff was immediately the best in baseball for a while.
This makes zero sense. They have 5 guys at AAA better than this dude.
I think Anderson was insurance for the bullpen in case tonight’s starter doesn’t last long after last night stater (Crochet) only lasted 1.2 innings. As it turns out, Anderson was the first reliever out of the bullpen after Sonny Gray only lasted 4 innings. Anderson went 3 innings, had 4 Ks and gave up 1 hit which was a solo HR.
I was glad to see Anderson have a successful outing. Not sure why people are upset with letting him have a shot in the bullpen.
Someone please explain to me why after the 4 run first inning and then the first 3 guys reaching in the bottom of the second, why would the MORON Manager not get someone up in the pen? Then finally when it is 10-0 he gets someone up??? And these clowns on NESN have yet to mention or question why Cora just let him out there to get cooked when he obviously was not right. I flipped to the Twins feed and their announcers are ABSOLUTELY Torching Cora. How many times do we have to watch this Moron make the same mistakes over and over? He did the same thing to Tanner Houck on multiple occasions.
Cora didn’t want to exhaust the bullpen and wanted Crochet to get his work in. He only went 55 pitches. If your ace doesn’t have it, you pretty much concede the game with that much of a lead given up.
LMAO…. that is trash and a pathetic excuse.
You don’t have to buy it but that’s why Crochet was left in there. Plenty of other teams also do that with their under-performing starters throughout the course of a season.
So you take your best starting pitcher and you subject him to a beat down to save the Bull Pen when you can easily use 3 guys at the back of the Bull Pen in a lost game then make transaction calling up replacements.
Aaron Boone isn’t even stupid enough to do this… yet Cora has litterally done it 4 x in the past year basically. SMH dude. Again, pathetic excuse.
There comes a time when you have to protect your player, and the moronic Manager sat on his hands, didn’t see the signs and whiffed again.
YBC is correct. Crochet stayed in to save the bullpen as much as possible. The game was lost. Overtaxing the bullpen increases the probability for more losses.
YBC – Except that Cora still exhausted the pen.
The extra 2 outs while giving up 6 or 7 more runs didnt do anything to save the pen.
Best thing to do wouldve been get the starter out. Two scenarios:
1) he’s fatigued and doesnt have it – in that case you absolutely DONT want him throwing a ton more pitches, since obviously its rest he needs
2) theres some strain or injury. In which case, again, you dont want him in there keeping throwing.
The Astros and Twins both own Crochet, especially in their ballparks. This is about getting a fresh arm up to handle some innings. Sonny Gray goes tonight and he’s gone 6 in each of his last two starts but Connelly Early goes tomorrow and he’s struggled to go five his last couple of starts
As a Yankee fan, I cannot tell you how pleasing it is to see Crochet have such a wonderful outing, it lifted my spirits after suffering through the Yankees BP nightmare. I only hope Crochet continues on this same path, I will need more good news in the future.
I understand and this could get ugly. I think we’re all waiting to see how it goes in Garrett’s next start, whenever that will be? Do they push him back a day or skip his turn?
In my view, they should push him down to the minors and leave him there.
Garrett Crochet to the minors? OK.
I read your original comment as serious but now I know you’re out in left field.
OK, thanks I appreciate it. Good luck to the Yankees this year. Hope we can both win enough to face each other in the playoffs. Then may the best team win !!
Ah! My wit passed you by. Do not fret, it passes my by as well. Anyway, I hope neither team makes it to the playoffs and we have a lockout next season. Outside of Judge, I have everything about my team. But, I hate the RS more. How you didn't burn down the city after they traded away Betts, I'll never know.
OK gotcha all good. I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, that’s for sure.
Betts didn’t want to be here so I was the first one to drive him to the airport. Adios.
I’m in the minority but I like change so it’s all good. Why spend 40 million on a guy who’s going to hit .260 when he’s 35?
I think he’s more 5-11, 185 Andrew McCutcheon than most realize. And McCutcheon was MVP caliber in his late 20s just as Mookie was.
But yeah, not looking good right now for the Sox. We’ll see how it goes. Maybe I’ll meet you in the alley across the street next to that dumpster on fire? Probably in August when I throw my hat in there to be burned?
I’ll be waiting. I already started fire. I just threw Grichuck in, and I’m trying to grab McMahon.
Yankees lucky they won’t have to see their own LH SP’s blasted by Twins until September.
Crochet is helping my Fantasy Baseball team win :).
I can’t take this much longer; this team is lifeless. Letting Bregman leave was a colossal blunder. Alex was a team leader and veteran influence on the young players, they looked up to him, now they look lost. Presently there is not a veteran leader on the squad. IKF, nope. (Same Old) Story K’s again, nope.
We don’t have Bregman or Devers, but we do have a smaller budget, John Henry must be thrilled.
Breslow you’ve done your job, you’re fantastic magician. You’ve turned a contender into a minor league basement dweller.
We had plans to visit Fenway and attend some road games, not this year.
Bregman has an OPS of .659 and Devers has an OPS of .586
I’m in the never should’ve signed Bregman or traded Devers boat. First never made sense because of the amount of money. Devers never misses a game and played in 163 last year because of the dumb trade.
I did not mind the Bregman signing as he did provide some leadership and at times solid offense as well as good defense. He was overpaid in my mind with his current contract. I did not like the Devers trade, but he has not exactly been tearing it up this year so not sure how much difference he would make.
Dlj – You need to add never should’ve extended devers to that list, along with never should’ve let bogaerts hit free agency and instead shouldve given in to bogeys modest extension he asked for at the time to cancel out his opt outs.
I agree with you because even if he didn’t put up the numbers, he had the leadership. Devers never did. I don’t mean that as a knock on him, but you can’t expect somebody that isn’t a leader to step up and be one.
Devers is struggling this spring and striking out way too much. Now that he is a DH I wonder if not being in the field is going to impact his motivation to stay in shape and be ready when he is hitting. Wish him the best of luck, but looks like he would not have had a positive impact on the team. Bregman seems to be hitting better recently and I do think they miss his leadership. Don’t know that he is going to be worth the contract he got, but he was almost like having another coach on the field and in the dug out.
Uncle: Devers has been playing some 1B and he seems to have trouble fielding bad throws. The person throwing ball then gets an error.
All- I just saw him listed as DH, have not followed the Giants much. I had thought he would adjust to first base and have some success there. I guess he is just having a slow start. Who knows, but obviously not having a big offensive impact which would be what you need from him since you know his defense and presence in the clubhouse/leadership are not his strengths.
I was excited to see Suarez pitching like we had hoped. Wish he had gotten the win. The pitching seems to be settling in, now we just need more consistent offense (can’t expect to win many games when only scoring one run). I think Contreras can be the impact hitter we need as long as he is healthy.
Uncle: I enjoy watching Suarez pitch. It looks like they are seriously lacking on offense unfortunately.
Man this team makes evey team they play pretty much look like World Series contenders! The trade deadline could be a fire sale, only thing going for them is the Al east is wide open…..Twins are man handling them and they sold 90% of their team last trade deadline!
they’ve got the Jack!
He is giving them multi inning appearances out of the bullpen since being promoted.
