The Tigers have activated Kerry Carpenter from the 10-day injured list, per Tony Paul of The Detroit News. He will bat fourth and serve as the DH today against the White Sox. Gage Workman has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding active roster move.
Carpenter has been on the shelf since May 10th with a left AC joint sprain. Recent reporting indicated that he and Gleyber Torres were set to begin rehab assignments. In Carpenter’s case, that ended up lasting just two games. He now returns to the Tigers having missed exactly three weeks.
More to come.

Good news for the Tigers, but is it too little too late?
Unload Workman and keep Short? Keep McKinstry? Good Lord.
Gage has options left and the others don’t. It made for an easy decision for the Tigers. Gage, showed lots of power but lots of swing and miss, too. He will be back up as soon as someone else gets hurt.
Short is a way better defender than Workman and bats RH’d when he makes contact. McKinstry, in addition, is way more versatile and better on defense. Neither are going to win you many games, but poor Gage Workman just cannot get over that AAAA hump.
The next move will be who goes when Gleyber is back later this week. Jamai Jones has got to be at the top of the list. Mainly because he can’t play defense and Short can. They’re both awful hitters.
At some point the Tigers will cut Short when Baez is ready…or…if not him, Anderson.
Workman has a reputation as a good defender. In fact, he’s probably better than Short.
Skubal, reese olson, jobe, mize all on DL
Is it just 2 man rotation now? Framber and flaherty?
Montero is pitching today and they have Melton back.
The season os already toast. At this point, it is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Scott Harris has been here long enough to prove he is NOT an effective GM. Good organizational guy, good with amateur scouting. Appears to be in way over his head in making trades and signing free agents.
Tome for Scott to go.
