Tigers Outright Enrique Gonzalez

By Tim Dierkes | April 20, 2011 at 12:28pm CDT

The Tigers outrighted righty Enrique Gonzalez to Triple-A Toledo, tweets MLB.com's Jason Beck.  The move was done to create a 25-man roster spot for reliever Ryan Perry, who came off the DL today.

One side benefit: the Tigers' 40-man roster now stands at 39, so they can make a waiver claim without losing anyone.

AL Central Notes: Indians, Gonzalez, Tigers

By Mike Axisa | March 26, 2011 at 8:52am CDT

Some Saturday links from a few midwestern AL clubs…

  • Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain-Dealer says the Indians' Opening Day payroll projects to be just north of $42.4MM, the third straight season it's shrunk. Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, and Fausto Carmona account for close to 63% of that total. The payroll sat at $81.6MM just two seasons ago.
  • The Tigers sent Danny Worth, Adam Wilk, and Andy Dirks to minor league camp today, indicating that Enrique Gonzalez has made the team. MLB.com's Jason Beck tweets that the club doesn't have to make a 40-man roster move to accommodate Gonzalez until next week.
  • Noah Trister of the AP (via The Detroit Free Press) explains how the Tigers rebuilt on the fly thanks to the three-way trade that sent Curtis Granderson and Edwin Jackson to the Yankees and Diamondbacks, respectively.

Minor Deals: Jesus Guzman, Enrique Gonzalez, LaHair

By Tim Dierkes | November 20, 2010 at 12:32pm CDT

Today's minor signings…

  • The Padres signed third baseman/left fielder Jesus Guzman to a minor league deal, MLBTR has learned.  Guzman, 26, hit .321/.376/.510 with 18 home runs in 492 Triple-A plate appearances for the Giants' affiliate this year, his second extended stint at the level.  He'd been designated for assignment in January to make room when the Giants re-signed Bengie Molina, but remained in the organization for the 2010 season.
  • The Tigers re-signed righty Enrique Gonzalez to a minor league deal, MLBTR has learned.  Gonzalez, 28, posted a 3.41 ERA, 7.4 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, and 1.2 HR/9 in 66 Triple-A innings across eleven starts this year, also racking up 26 big league relief frames.  He'd been designated for assignment in August and outrighted shortly thereafter.
  • The Cubs re-signed first baseman/left fielder Bryan LaHair to a minor league deal, MLBTR has learned.  LaHair, 28, hit .308/.385/.557 with 25 home runs in 478 Triple-A plate appearances this year, his fifth stint at the level.

Tigers Designate Enrique Gonzalez For Assignment

By Tim Dierkes | August 23, 2010 at 1:25pm CDT

The Tigers designated righty Enrique Gonzalez for assignment to make room for outfielder Casper Wells, according to the team.

Gonzalez, 28, posted a 3.81 ERA, 4.5 K/9, and 5.9 BB/9 with four home runs allowed in 26 relief innings for the Tigers this year.  He was signed to a minor league deal in January and made 11 decent Triple A starts before getting the call in June.  Gonzalez has logged time with four organizations in the last four years, pitching for the Tigers, Red Sox, Padres, and Diamondbacks.

Red Sox DFA Enrique Gonzalez

By Mike Axisa | August 9, 2009 at 5:07pm CDT

Amalie Benjamin of The Boston Globe tweets that the Red Sox have designated righthander Enrique Gonzalez for assignment to make room on the roster for Fernando Cabrera. Like Josh Towers, Gonzalez was called up yesterday as bullpen insurance following Friday's 15-inning marathon in the Bronx.

Gonzalez had spent the entire season with Triple-A Pawtucket prior to yesterday's callup, pitching to a 5.31 ERA in 21 starts. Gonzalez allowed two runs in 1.2 IP yesterday.
