Rob Delaney

Orioles Acquire Chris Snyder

By charliewilmoth | April 28, 2013 at 8:38pm CDT

The Angels have traded catcher Chris Snyder to the Orioles for minor-league pitcher Rob Delaney, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports . MASNSports.com's Roch Kubatko notes that the Orioles will add Snyder to their active roster, which presumably means that he will serve as the backup to Matt Wieters while Taylor Teagarden is on the disabled list with a thumb injury.

Snyder, 32, was hitting .342/.388/.684 with Triple-A Salt Lake. He hit .176/.295/.308 in 221 at bats with the Astros in 2012.

Delaney, 28, struggled in three outings for Triple-A Norfolk in 2013, but was effective as a Triple-A reliever in 2011 and 2012. He has pitched a total of six big-league innings in his career, including five with the Rays in 2011.

Outrighted To Triple-A: Spears, Delaney, Ekstrom

By Mike Axisa | September 16, 2011 at 7:49pm CDT

Here's the latest round of players that cleared waivers and were outrighted to the minors, courtesy of the International League transactions page…

  • The Red Sox outrighted Nate Spears to Triple-A. The 26-year-old infielder played in just three games for Boston before being designated for assignment to help make room on the roster for Trever Miller and Joey Gathright earlier this week.
  • The Rays outrighted Rob Delaney to Triple-A. Delaney, 26, was designated for assignment a few days ago to make room on the roster for top prospect Matt Moore. The right-hander spent most of the year in Triple-A, pitching to a 1.86 ERA in 67 2/3 relief innings.
  • The Rays also outrighted Mike Ekstrom to Triple-A. The 28-year-old righty appeared in just one big league game this year, instead pitching to a 4.35 ERA in 68 1/3 minor league innings. Ekstrom was designated for assignment earlier in the week to make room on the roster for Russ Canzler.

Rays Designate Rob Delaney For Assignment

By Tim Dierkes | September 12, 2011 at 11:35am CDT

The Rays designated righty Rob Delaney for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for top prospect Matt Moore, reports Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times.

Delaney, 27, spent most of the year at Triple-A.  There he posted a 1.86 ERA, 7.6 K/9, 2.3 BB/9, and 0.4 HR/9 in 67 2/3 relief innings.  He'd been designated and outrighted in May, but was re-added to the 40-man roster in July.

Moore, meanwhile, is the consensus best pitching prospect in the minor leagues.  The 22-year-old southpaw has won back-to-back minor league strikeout crowns, whiffing 210 across 155 innings at Double and Triple-A this year.  Moore's electric arm makes for an exciting bullpen addition to a surging Rays team that now sits 3.5 games back of the Red Sox in the wild card standings.

Outrighted To Triple-A: Delaney, Tomko, Boggs, Rivera

By Mark Polishuk | May 27, 2011 at 9:36pm CDT

A few minor moves…

  • Rob Delaney has cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Rays on Wednesday and has been outrighted to Triple-A Durham, reports Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times (via Twitter).
  • The Rangers outrighted Brett Tomko to Triple-A Round Rock and Tomko has accepted the assignment, reports Anthony Andro of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (via Twitter).  Andro also tweets that Tomko has an out clause in his contract for June 1, though Andro isn't sure if Tomko plans to exercise it. In the corresponding move, Texas called up Michael Kirkman.
  • The Brewers have outrighted catcher Mike Rivera to Triple-A Nashville, reports MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.  It is expected that Rivera will accept the assignment.
  • Also from McCalvy, Brandon Boggs has accepted his assignment to Nashville after being outrighted by the Brewers two days ago.  This is the third time Boggs has been outrighted by Milwaukee in the last three months.  Rivera and Boggs were outrighted to create roster space for Josh Wilson and Nyjer Morgan.

Rays Claim Jay Buente; Designate Rob Delaney

By Tim Dierkes | May 25, 2011 at 1:17pm CDT

The Rays claimed righty Jay Buente off waivers from the Marlins and created a 40-man roster spot by designating pitcher Rob Delaney for assignment, tweets The Tampa Tribune.  The Rays then optioned Buente to Triple-A.

Buente was designated for assignment yesterday by the Marlins to clear a spot on the active roster for Steve Cishek.  The 27-year-old posted a 1.94 ERA, 9.5 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, and 0.2 HR/9 in 41 2/3 Triple-A innings this year, including five starts.  He spent most of 2010 in relief, posting a 10.0 K/9 across three levels.  Buente was a fifth-round pick of the Marlins in 2007.

The Rays claimed Delaney off waivers from the Twins in late January.  The 26-year-old right-handed reliever had been optioned to Triple-A on Friday to open a spot for J.P. Howell.  In recent years he's posted big strikeout rates at Triple-A, though he allowed ten home runs in 80 frames last year.  Baseball America ranked him 24th among Twins prospects prior to the 2009 season, noting that Delaney does not throw particularly hard but his fastball has excellent sink and he has above-average command.
