Red Sox Looking At Relievers & Infielders

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | March 26, 2010 at 2:17pm CDT

The Red Sox are interested in relievers and infielders and have been scouting players around the league, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. The club would like to add shortstop depth behind free agent acquisition Marco Scutaro and add options out of the bullpen.

We heard earlier in the week that the Red Sox had communicated their interest in adding shortstop depth to other teams. They may need Mike Lowell's roster spot to add a backup shortstop, but the club isn't close to dealing him.

It's been a busy week for the Red Sox, who signed Alan Embree and released Brian Shouse, and they are still looking at other relievers. Cafardo says the club doesn't want to rush Embree, who may not make the team's Opening Day roster.

I bet they can get Eric Patterson from the A’s for pretty much nothing.

And even before he was diagnosed with mono it was pretty much a given that he was going to start (and probably spend the majority of) the season in AAA because he still needs to play everyday just to prove that his wrist is healthy enough for him to be a reliable utility option later on..

omar vizquel would be a perfect fit for the defensive minded so now, and the white sox might just be willing to take lowell off their hands, even though i believe lowell will end up being the everyday dh over big papi, im sorry but ortiz career is fastly coming to a halt

Over the last four months of the season, Ortiz hit almost exactly the same numbers as A-Rod. I haven’t heard anything about his career “fastly coming to a halt”. Ortiz was troubled by injuries at the beginning of last season. I love Mikey Lowell, but he will never be able to put up better numbers, especially power number than Ortiz.
