Anticipating Chris Resop’s Next Team

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | June 11, 2010 at 1:15pm CDT

Chris Resop should be in the major leagues before long, it’s just a question of where. The right-hander has pitched to a 1.84 ERA in 13 Triple A starts this year, striking out more than a batter per inning, and he has a clause in his contract that forces the Braves to expose him to the 29 other clubs if he's not on Atlanta's 25-man roster by June 15th.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the trade market has yet to develop for Resop, who pitched a one-hitter last night. MLB.com's Mark Bowman agrees and notes that no MLB scouts watched Resop last night. Morosi reports that the Braves will trade Resop if they see a good offer, but they’ll promote him if they don’t see a proposal they like. Resop could replace struggling reliever Jesse Chavez in the team’s bullpen.

It’s hard to pinpoint Resop’s value, but as Dave Cameron of FanGraphs points out, pitchers with 9.9 K/9 with ground ball rates approaching 50% open some eyes. Plus, since he doesn’t have much big league experience, Resop would be more than a rental. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Cardinals, Blue Jays, Tigers or Mets pursue the 27-year-old.

Get rid of Chavez, put Medlen in the bullpen, and Resop in the rotation.

I thought Medlen has had solid stats while starting, plus wouldn’t you guys still have 6 starters? Hanson, Jair, Kawakami, Hudson, Lowe, Resop. Or is Jair still on the DL?

Yeah, Medlen has been solid as a starter and has a few more starts to go until Jurrjens gets back. I would bring up Resop and bump either Chavez or Martinez and then bump the other with Medlen once Jurrjens comes back.

          Wagner
          Saito
          Moylan
          O’Flaherty
          Medlen
          Venters
          Resop

That is a filthy bulpen. Check out Venter’s numbers, he has been absolutely fantastic and has been an added bonus to a pen that was already suposed to be good.

5.13 BB/9 is a little high, but other than that his numbers look good.

Most of his walks came from when he was first called up.

Medlen needs to stay in the rotation and Kawakami needs to go to the pen even if the only reason he isn’t winning is because of low run support he still needs to move over for Medlen who is a bulldog.

Resop sounds a hell of a lot better than Suppan.

I don’t expect the Suppan experiment to last long. The Cardinals will make a move for starting pitching. Might as well get this guy who won’t eat up a bunch of salary.

Yep that was the best trade ever getting rid of Boyer .He sucked monkey balls !Every time he came in to pitch I was biting my nails hoping he wouldn’t give up a run but what do ya know ? He does what he does best gives up a damn run every damn time he pitches.Hell I don’t even care who we got back from the Cards ,they could have gave us a truck load of Kit Kat Bars for all I care.Boyer was just plain horrible.Who cares ,most of us knew Barton wouldn’t make it to the Majors.

Resop is absolutely terrible. He’s just like Boyer and Charlie Morton. He throws 93-95 with zero movement. Trade his ass.
