Jays Accept Brad Emaus Back From Mets

By Mark Polishuk | April 21, 2011 at 6:31pm CDT

The Blue Jays have accepted infielder Brad Emaus back from the Mets, tweets ESPNNewYork's Adam Rubin.  New York designated Emaus, a Rule 5 pick from Toronto, for assignment on Tuesday and since Emaus cleared waivers, the Mets had to offer him back to the Jays for $25K or work out a trade to keep him.  Now that the Jays have taken Emaus back, he has been assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Emaus won the second base job out of Spring Training for the Mets, but was DFA'ed after posting a .424 OPS in 42 plate appearances.  Emaus, 25, was an 11th-round pick of the Jays in the 2007 amateur draft and he has a .276/.364/.426 line in four minor league seasons.

Why would they let him go when we have a scrub like Hairston on our roster? Give the kid a chance, we’re not going to compete this year anyway.

Probably a good thing for the Blue Jays. Second base is definitely a weak spot in the organization, and with Aaron Hill’s incredible inconsistency, there is a good chance the Jays will be looking for a new 2-sacker next year. If Emaus can regain his confidence in AAA and continue to incrementally improve, he could become what the Mets hoped three weeks ago.

Is anyone else concerned they got rid of him after a whopping 42 PA’s?

I should rephrase… As a Braves fan, I’m very happy Alderson would make such a hasty move so quickly. Mets fans should be concerned.

Again, the overall package was the question. His D wasn’t exactly good either.
