Ozzie’s Four-Year Deal Worth About $10MM

By Tim Dierkes | September 28, 2011 at 12:09pm CDT

New Miami Marlins managed Ozzie Guillen was introduced today, and MLB.com's Joe Frisaro says his four-year contract is worth about $10MM.  His $2.5MM salary represents almost a 40% increase over the $1.8MM he was earning with the White Sox.

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria says he “could not be happier” that Guillen is going to lead the team into its new stadium, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post.  And the skipper himself promised an energetic team that will play hard and deliver results.

"Hopefully I can bring energy flavor, enthusiasm but the most important thing – a winning team,” Guillen said.  "As long as I am here I'm going to promise you, you're going to see a ballclub that will play hard. It's not about Ozzie – it's about Miami Marlins.”

Capozzi notes (Twitter links) that Guillen rejected the Marlins' first contract offer.  Team President David Samson told Guillen that he loves his Twitter activity and noted that it comes with responsibility.

I’m so relieved for him! When I think of him possibly having to give up his boat captain…

Did I hear this clown say it’s all about the money and that he didn’t want to die poor? I can’t wait to find out what he spent all his millions on, that he’s this close to the poor house.

10 million for a loud mouth, obnoxious, arrogant, condescending blow hard.
One of the worst managerial hirings of the past decade. Check with White Sox fans about the job he has done over the past 3 years. 90% are glad to see him go.

Am I wrong about Ozzie?  Do you think he has done a good job managing the Sox over these past 3 years?
I’m guessing that because I am a Cub fan I should not have an opinion about anything or anybody other than the Cubs.
Before you respond, I already know “Cubs suck! Cubs suck! 103 years”

90% glad to see Ozzie go? I don’t know where you get your numbers but I hear a lot of people saying they’re sad to see him go. It may be time for a change but Ozzie did a good job of managing the Sox and entertaining the fans and writers. Come on! He was a crucial part of finally bringing Chicago a baseball championship.

So his Marlins tenure begins with a lie too. If there’s one thing we’ve learned in Chicago it’s that IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT OZZIE. He has the biggest ego of any manager in decades. He always puts himself ahead of the team. He quit on the team this year in late August when he announced he refused to honor his White Sox contract for 2012, while his team was 3 games out of first place. They fell out of the race as Ozzie continued to make sure every day’s headlines were about him and his contract. He’s a deceitful, dishonest person. He may have been a coach for the Marlins before but Loria has no idea the truckload of headache he’s getting.
