Braves To Sign Peter Moylan

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | January 17, 2012 at 6:12pm CDT

The Braves and Australian right-hander Peter Moylan agreed to a one-year, $1MM deal, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports on Twitter. It's a minor league deal, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. The Braves had non-tendered the Wasserman Media Group client last month.

Moylan pitched in just 13 games in 2011 due to lower back and rotator cuff injuries. However, he posted a 2.90 ERA with 7.4 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9 in 136 2/3 innings of relief from 2009-10.

stupid Disqus. Apparently “network error” means “we posted it but we want to mess with you just for {cough} and giggles”.

He’s a great player when healthy, unfortunately that’s almost never recently. Does anyone remember that game, I think, two years ago when the Braves had a huge lead over the Phillies and Moylan came in and allowed four runners in a row and the Braves ended up losing 11 to 12?

I’m fine with it as long as he doesn’t face a single lefty. Problem is, Fredi Gonzalez is still managing the team so that’s not gonna happen.

What?  A reliever had a bad night?  For SHame!
Sounds like Cox should have just taken him out earlier.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love Moylan and think he’s been great for the Braves for the most part. I just can’t help remembering that game every time I think of him. Besides basically every reliever they brought in that game sucked.

I like Moylan but Cory Gearrin is a Moylan clone, is younger, healthier and makes half that much money.   Both also have the same problem.  Neither should EVER pitch to left handed batters but Fredi Gonzalez never figured that out.
