Orioles Release Armando Galarraga

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | April 6, 2012 at 2:48pm CDT

The Orioles have released right-hander Armando Galarraga, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com tweets. The move creates Triple-A roster space for left-hander Dana Eveland.

The Orioles had signed the 30-year-old SFX client to a minor league deal in January following a difficult 2011 season. Galarraga came within one out of throwing a perfect game for the Tigers in 2010, but the 2011 season wasn't nearly as successful. Galarraga, who was traded from Detroit to Arizona in January of 2011, posted a 5.91 ERA with 5.9 K/9 and 4.6 BB/9 in 42 2/3 innings for the D'Backs last year. He also made five Triple-A starts, allowing 24 earned runs in 23 1/3 innings.

I pretty sure he knows that, but many people, including myself, think of that as a perfect game, because it should have been a perfect game.

Being released by the Orioles pretty much wraps up the career. Unless the Astros want to take a whack.

If one of the worst teams in baseball doesnt want you… who else would? but hey it might be one of the best decision someone makes if they’re looking for an extra starter haha

Somehow, this is definitely Jim Joyce’s fault.

With the Chris Carpenter issues, this could be a decent pickup for the Cardinals.

Is he supposed to massage Carpenter’s neck?

You would rather have Lance Lynn? Okay we will see how that goes.

So Lance Lynn is currently in charge of massaging Carpenter’s neck then? I think a chiropractor would be betterr

+ Dick Tidrow = another no hitter quality pitcher (maybe). Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Giants make a move to patch the hole in the ship that is the current 4th starter.

Even for as well as he handled the situation, I think the incident with Jim Joyce really rattled Galarraga. He pitched good against Cleveland again that year (I think he took another perfect game 6 or 7) but looked totally lost against everyone else since.

Who needs Galarraga when they have Arrieta to throw 7 dominating innings today? WHAT a performance!!

If I was released by Baltimore so that they could make room for Dana Eveland, who has been released quite a few times, I would announce my retirement immediately.  However, I honestly do think Galarraga should and will get another AAA chance somewhere.

Besides the almost-perfect game, his 2010 wasn’t that good either.

Save 2008, the guy has been a below average pitcher his entire career.

As an Indians fan, seen this guy pitch he’s not awful. I feel bad for him though. Lifes been rough since that un-perfect game. Obviously donald should of been out at first and he should of had the perfecto.
