The Mets have designated Miguel Batista for assignment, according to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News (via Twitter). The Mets' 40-man roster currently stands at 38.
The 41-year-old had a 4.82 ERA with 6.6 K/9 and 6.0 BB/9 in 46.2 innings of work this year. Batista joined the Mets last summer on a minor league deal and inked another with the club in January. For his career, the veteran has a 4.49 ERA with 5.8 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9.
Met fans everywhere are thinking…
“There is a God!”
Hopefully now Matt Harvey gets called up.
“We are the best team in the National League.” -Miguel Batista
Couple days later after being DFA.
“Yeah about what I said…”
Hallelujah.
Whoever claims Batista will become the best team in the league. I am sure the Padres, Cubs, Royals, M’s, Twins, and Phils have all already claimed him.
No way he returns to seattle
Game 1 Dodgers put Pitcher on DL
Game 2 Dodgers force pitcher to be DFA’d
Apparently after the Dodgers hit a pitcher hard with our line-up the other team thinks that pitcher ether sucks or is hurt.
Since Batista does in fact suck and since Santana is hurt/fatigued both of those thoughts are valid conclusions. It’s got nothing to do with the strength of the Dodger lineup. (Batista put three men on and needed 81 pitches to get through 3….and that sort of thing wasn’t unique to his ptiching against LA).
Exactly what i said. Because of the weakness of the dodger lineup it was because it is the worst in the league and those pitchers couldn’t put it away.
uhhh NO, both those moves needed to be made over a week ago
Sarcasm… and yes Johan hurt his ankle 2 starts ago and then gave up 6 runs in each of the next 2. Perhaps a phantom DL.
It’s not like I think Harvey’s going to be particularly good right away, but I’d rather watch a 23-year old prospect take his lumps and work on his command than watch a 41-year old walk six guys every nine innings.
If I was the Pirates I would pick him up, as he is the only player left in the league who was on the ’92 Pirates.
