The Astros announced that they designated infielder Brian Bixler for assignment. The move creates 40-man roster space for Tyler Greene, who was claimed off of waivers from St. Louis.
Bixler has appeared in 36 games for the Astros this year, playing second, third, shortstop and both corner outfield positions. He posted a .193/.253/.330 line in 96 plate appearances at the MLB level and has a .267/.349/.366 batting line in 229 plate appearances at Triple-A. The Astros claimed the 2004 second round pick off of waivers from Washington last November.
NO! Not me! Of all the guys, why me?
*points to matt downs*
I wish that Brian would just get in the batting cages and learn pitch selection. So much potential.
This guy isn’t much of a hitter from what I saw, but pretty useful in that he plays multiple positions well. He could be the 25th man on a ballclub loaded full of hitters, where what he hits doesn’t matter.
It’s weird. His stance changes from watching him in the minors compared to the majors regardless of it was with the Pirates or the Astros. He tries to hit the ball as hard as he can every ab, but not a homerun swing. It looks like he is trying to hit as if a major league field is double the size of a AAA field. Just focus on an area over the plate that is comfortable to connect and take a pitch or two.
