Red Sox Re-Sign Jeff Bianchi

By Zachary Links | May 31, 2015 at 12:11pm CDT

The Red Sox have re-signed infielder Jeff Bianchi, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe (on Twitter).  Just yesterday, Bianchi rejected an outright assignment from Boston after clearing waivers.

Bianchi’s cup of coffee in the big time with Boston will last at least a little big longer this year.  He’s performed well at Triple-A, amassing a .302/.373/.340 slash line in 61 plate appearances.  From 2012 through 2014, Bianchi saw time in a combined 162 games for the Brewers.  In that span he posted a below average batting line of  .216/.251/.283.

To make room on the roster, left-hander Robbie Ross has been optioned to the minors.

Guess a couple of days in the unemployment line was all it took for reality to kick in for Bianchi.

Not really. He rejected going to the minors and Boston brought him back to the MLB club.

My point. No MLB jobs available to him. Bianchi’s a AAAA floater type. He’s not going to find steady work at the MLB level.

He was put on the ML roster.

My point, he got an MLB job… in Boston.

That worked out better for him than he could’ve hoped. Of course Boston could DFA him again tomorrow.

It’s great for him, ML contract means he’s guaranteed his ML salary for the rest of the season if and when (as soon as they need his spot) they cut him loose again.
