Dodgers Moving On From Aroldis Chapman

By Steve Adams | December 10, 2015 at 9:07am CDT

The Dodgers have moved on from left-hander Aroldis Chapman and are now weighing a run at Yankees lefty Andrew Miller, as well as other options, in their quest to bolster the back-end of their bullpen, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Twitter link). Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported yesterday that the Dodgers and Astros were talking about Miller with the Yankees, although one would assume that Houston’s reported acquisition of Ken Giles from Philadelphia takes them out of that market.

The Dodgers were said on Monday to have reached a deal to acquire Chapman from the Reds, but later in the day it was reported that the trade had not yet been completed. Eventually, it was reported that Chapman had allegedly been involved in a highly troublesome domestic dispute back in October. While no arrests were issued at the time of the incident, the league is indeed investigating the matter and, under its new domestic violence policy, could take action of some kind against Chapman.

If the Yankees trade miller, the biggest strength last year becomes the biggest weakness, it already weaker because of the dumb trade yesterday

Yeah, the Yankees certainly struggle with finding high-end relievers so this would be pretty traumatizing.

If the price is right, you pull the trigger. Same with Gardner and Nova. If not, you hold onto them.

Good, the Dodgers dont need another cuban egomaniac in the clubhouse

Hey hey. He may or may not have committed a criminal and horrible act and he may or may not be a giant a**hole, but being Cuban has nothing to do with it.

legend27 may be correct and you read it wrong. Perhaps he thinks they need an egomaniac from a different geographical location. Maybe one that lives in Mississippi?

They could make the same offer to the Orioles and see if they will part with Britton. They just signed Oday to closer money and could slide him into 9th.

Maybe they did check on him, but I think since the yanks prob want to trade miller so bad it would prob be an easier trade and miller might be more OK with being setup guy.

Anybody have a feel for how much this alleged crime will impact Chapman’s market value? If a Division rival acqires him for only 1 top prospect and AC has a great 2016, how will Friedman’s decision look? Where is the MLBPA on this?

Reduced it to effectively nothing for the time being, and given that MLB hasn’t supplied a timeline for completing its own investigation, walking away from the trade is pretty much the only course of action that makes sense. No crime was alleged, btw, The domestic violence policy was adopted jointly by MLB and the MLBPA, so for now at least they are in the same place.

It would be interesting to see what the Yankees could get from LA. They need to do something considering that dumb trade they made yesterday with Detroit.

If they can get a Kimbrel-like return they should do it. Can always reshuffle the bullpen with younger arms. Three legit prospects for a closer is a steal in my book.

Craig Kimbrell for three years versus Chapman for one, why do you think that the Reds would get the same package in return? or are you talking about Miller?

Based on what the Phillies got from Ken Giles. The asking price for Miller should be slightly lower.

Just saying we have no idea how Giles pitches, when its for a team that actually wins. Miller has proven to be great so if the Yankees trade him its going to be for more than what the phillies got
