TODAY: Harper’s ban was knocked down to three days upon appeal, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets.
YESTERDAY: Following last night’s brawl, Major League Baseball has announced suspensions for Giants righty Hunter Strickland and Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper. As Joel Sherman of the New York Post first tweeted, Strickland will receive a six-game ban, while Harper will miss four contests.
Both players have appealed their sentences. They’ll also each pay undisclosed fines, per the league announcement.
The fracas occurred when Strickland plunked Harper in the hip in the first pitch of his plate appearance. The latter charged the mound, with both players landing punches before things were broken up.
While the two hadn’t even squared off in years, the last time they did it was under dramatic circumstances. Harper, of course, swatted two long home runs off of Strickland in the 2014 NLDS.
While Strickland did not admit to any intent after the game, the commissioner’s office nevertheless found that he had intentionally struck Harper with the pitch. Per the league’s announcement, his actions were responsible for “inciting the bench-clearing incident and fighting.” As for Harper, one of the game’s most visible players, the ban was announced for “charging the mound, throwing his helmet and fighting.”
While Harper will officially sit for less games, the punishment will hurt the Nats more than it does the Giants. The former will lose a fair bit of production from one of the game’s best hitters, while the latter will miss out on only a few innings from a quality reliever. That imbalance is ripe for some criticism, though it’s also something of a matter of perspective. If the punishment is intended primarily for the player rather than the team, then perhaps it’s not as skewed as it might otherwise appear. The bigger question, perhaps, is whether suspensions of this length provide sufficient deterrent value at all.

“Charging the mound, throwing his helmet, and fighting.”
Apparently MLB has a loose definition of the word “throw”
nmendoza44
He honestly threw his helmet from the wrong side because his arm read “fling” rather than “throw”
I Believe We Can Win
Id say he moreso chucked his helmet then threw his helmet.
liamsfg
He attempted to throw his helmet, but embarrassingly enough it went the opposite direction and looked stupid right before taking a nice right hook lol. Good job boys way to make yourselves look dumb infront of many-a-thousand fans.
mike.gordon34
Take the bat with you next time. I promise that’s the last time anyone throws at you. These stupid P pitchers deserve mound charges when they throw at someone on purpose
Dark_Knight
Yup, assault with a deadly weapon would be a great look for this sport, you’re right.
jdgoat
He wasn’t aiming at Strickland
Matt St.
Couldn’t you say the same thing about a baseball though?
mike.gordon34
Bat swings slower than 98 mph, so why is the bat considered worse than the ball?
mack22 2
Thats what Juan Mariscal did to Johnny Roseboro
royals18
A bat causes more harm than a baseball, a knife is slower than a baseball…
abcrazy4dodgers
A fly could hit you at 140 mph… take a bat swing at “swinging bunt” speed of say, 30 mph. Which would hurt more? Mass effect.
BSPORT
Why would a bat be considered more of a weapon than a hard object being thrown 100 mph? I believe both could kill hitting in head. Both “weapons” have to be accelerated and directed at somebody, by somebody(other than a pitching machine I guess). Everybody would want a guy arrested that brought a bat to mound and whacked pitcher but it’s different with 100 mph hard ball with accuracy. I use the term weapons loosely and have no problem with it being part of the game but think it’s ridiculous that people are talking weapons. Just want to know why either object is considered differently when used as a “weapon”. Maybe they should make it a rule that after batter is hit and before he takes base the pitcher stands on plate and batter gets one shot at him from the mound. That would make it interesting!
southi
Yeah, I never really got the impression he was either. It appeared as if he was debating about it for a long time as he was going out in anger. When he got out to the mound he still wasn’t totally decided till the last second and then purposely threw it to the side in extreme anger.
LOL he could just could have horrible aim too.

pustule bosey
dude if you have a problem with the game, watch something else – if you take the bat up there you will most likely get banned for life….
Rounding3rd
I agree. Speed doesn’t kill. Momentum (speed x mass) kills. Bat has more mass than a baseball. At the same speed, a bat does more damage. That’s why knee breaker criminal enforcers use bats instead of baseballs on their prey.
outinleftfield
A baseball thrown 98 mph is a deadly weapon. Throwing at someones hip is not cause to go out and kill the pitcher.
thegreatcerealfamine
Nobody but nobody should be hit anywhere with a 98 mile fastbal!
bringinit247
I like what you did there with the “loose definition” of throw
TheMichigan
I try sometimes.
RiverCatsFilms
It’s the Browns QB and 50 cent’s definition so it’s good enough
nmendoza44
Strickland genuinely deserves more for getting revenge over something that happened 3 years ago, especially since the Giants WON THE WORLD SERIES THAT YEAR, he was just being a child and Harper had complete right to rush him and actually land a shot, because Strickland only landed slaps.
ABStract
Huh? Strickland punched Harper right in the face after he threw his helmet.
Don’t perpetuate fake news mendoza44
Priggs89
He “punched” Harper with an open hand (aka a slap) while backing up. Same weak stuff as most baseball “fights.”
liamsfg
Strickland got the better hit in on Harper for sure but they’re both idiots.
Harper is a douchebag, I’m happy to watch anyone punch him.
Strickland is a weirdo though, he doesn’t seem to fraternize much with any of his teammates.
mike.gordon34
…..thank you for you personal unsolicited opinions of people. Your thoughts are just uncanny and you should reach out the MLB trade rumors to write for them with this griping info.

I like watching any teams fight in baseball. It spices up the game and keeps series in future interesting between two teams. Hoping for a Yankees/Red Sox bench clearer this year. Time to spice up the rivalry! Even if you don’t like Harper at least he has the guts to go after the pitcher after he knew why he got it.
wiggysf
I’m a Giants fan and I think Strickland’s an idiot. He should get 8 and Harper gets 6. Although, I’m alright with this cause Harper is on my fantasy team
wiggysf
Why did this send twice? I only wrote it once.
mike.gordon34
He will be the first to cry foul when posey get hit tonight…just watch
liamsfg
Must I be solicited? Or can I share my opinion like everyone else?
Or maybe you just don’t agree? That’s fine because I could care less.
greatdaysport
Guts?!?! No guts trying to throw his helmut (and looked so stupid with that throw).
Strickland was wrong and Harper showed what kind of idiot he is.
What do you think Trout would do in the same situation?
He wouldn’t act like a douche. He would have let his pitchers deal with it.
Of course, they never throw at class players like Trout.
Mattimeo09
Nope. Not every fan would love to have a hothead like Harper on their team.
Even if my team gets no production out of right field, I’d be happier than having an egomaniac making the entire team look bad
thegreatcerealfamine
Get real pal..you’re team has the best player in the league and you’d hate it. You must not be much of a fan not wanting your team to have the best chance to win!

Decent decision. Hope the appeals fail. Both are fair punishments.

I doubt they’re appealing to reduce punishment, just to prolong the suspension until a further date….it always happens
Ry.the.Stunner
Harper should take it now while they’re playing the terrible Giants and A’s. They’ll need his bat more in future series.
jgm1w11
Bad look Strickland. Should have let that grudge die. Or strike him out and show you’re not the same guy. Hope he comes back more focused.
Go GIANTS!

Never knew MLB had the technology to read minds to determine intent
liamsfg
Does seem a bit subjective on the leagues part. Remember that in the MLB you’re guilty even if proven innocent (refer to many domestic abuse cases).
Jeff Todd
I’m not going to engage in any debate on this, but I feel compelled to point out that there are precisely zero cases where MLB issued a DV-related punishment where the player was “proven innocent.” There are reasonable discussions to be had about when it’s appropriate for the league to punish despite a lack of [evidence or arrest or prosecution or conviction or what have you], but you can’t start with that sort of statement.
biasisrelitive
thank you for stating the facts and keeping this discussion in a reasonable relm!!!
liamsfg
It was a joke, but still think about this:
DUI case relates suspensions aren’t handed out until after the case has concluded but DV suspensions are issued immediately, regardless of the judicial outcome.
Jean Matrac
Immediately? That’s not the way I remember things. It seems to me MLB took an exceeding long time to decide about the Chapman and Reyes cases.
Jeff Todd
Punishment was not arrived at in the DV cases until the judicial process was complete — every time except for Olivera, I believe. (He’s also the only one who was ultimately convicted of a criminal offense.) It took several months in many cases. Also, all of them were agreed upon by the player, his agent, and the union.
Cam
Not guilty does not equal proven innocent. Two very different things.
dust44
Y even appeal that? Those r incredibly short suspensions. Especially for Strickland who was [moderated] for throwing at someone for something that happened 2 years ago. Any pitcher who intentionally throws at a batter for giving up homeruns should take a long look in the mirror and A get better or B don’t make mistakes
ABStract
So, no guilt on harpers side tho huh?
I’m not saying Strickland isn’t an immature moron, but if Harper wasn’t such a classless show off and sh$t talker, this kinda thing would never have happened in the first place
liamsfg
I completely agree here, both guys are in the same boat. I’ve wanted Strickland off the Giants for a long time, its hard to be a fan of that guy for a few reasons.
wadlez
Ah, let blame Harper for Stricklands’ extreme immaturity. The Harper jerk narrative never dies.
thegreatcerealfamine
They’re hating on him because he’s not on their team!
orangefriday
Harper has been ejected nine times in his career. This was Strickland’s first. Just saying.
davidcoonce74
Harper has played in 703 games, Strickland has played in 157. Just sayin’
jdgoat
How is Harper classless?
brianakabigb
They are probably waiting for a less tense series so they can afford to lose the player for that amount of time. I bet they drop their appeals at an opportune time.
I Believe We Can Win
Yeah, I dont buy strickland throwing at harper 3 years later. People need to stop making stuff up.
2015 they played 7 times
2016 they played 7 times
At some point in those 14 games im sure strickland pitched against harper and now he’s throwing at him? Dont buy it.
davidcoonce74
Nope. This was Harpers first at bat vs Strickland since 2014.
davidcoonce74
And the pitch was obviously intentional.
Jeff Todd
As stated in the post, this was the first time they had faced one another since. It is indeed easy to assume intention, but in this case I haven’t seen a single person (excepting Strickland) explain it any other way. The circumstantial evidence (and whatever else they knew) was evidently enough for the league.
wadlez
Yea, Strickland hadn’t faced Harper since 2014….. Strickland hadn’t hit anyone all year and the first pitch he throws to Harper since he hit two playoff bombs off him was 98 almost behind him.
Connect the dots, Einstein.
Priggs89
You would be incorrect. Strickland only pitched in 3 of those games in 2015 and never faced Harper. He pitched in 4 of them in 2016 and never faced Harper.
That pretty obviously was a purpose pitch.

ChaplinBaseball
True dude. That was hilarious!
mike156
In a nutshell you see what’s wrong with the system. Bring in hard throwing situational relief pitcher who averages less than one inning per appearance, let him throw at the other team’s star, and then mete out punishments that are grossly disproportional in actual impact. Strickland and his team loses maybe one to two IP. Harper loses 20-24 PA. And Harper gets paid at 24 times the rate of Strickland, and so his financial penalty is 16 times more than Strickland’s. This one is like a hockey game where they send the goon out.
dudeness88
nobody made Bryce charge the mound. oh no heaven forbid anybody anybody throw at u BRYCE HARPER..get over yourself dude. You’re not the first star to be thrown at and won’t be the last.
mike156
Um, I’m not Harper. He’s younger, richer, and a heck of a lot more talented at baseball. I’m also neither a Nationals fan nor a Harper fan. My comment was general. Deliberately throwing at a player–as opposed to pitching inside–is the triggering event and should be strongly discouraged.
padresfan
It should be reversed Harper threw a freakin helmet
wadlez
And. a helmet is more dangerous than a 98 MPH fastball. Got it……..
padresfan
How do you know it was intent
Was he just trying to brush him back ?
Priggs89
After being hit with a 98mph fastball on purpose…
While I think he was an idiot for throwing his helmet in the first place (although it’s a solid distraction to throw the pitcher off), I don’t blame him one bit for being that mad.
dodgerfan711
He also deliberately threw it in a whole different direction where no one was standing. The helmet throw is irrelevant.
thegreatcerealfamine
Like Michael Wilbon said..Harper should have made Strickland eat some wood!
BSPORT
How about the guy that plowed in and took out first baseman. Surprised no other fines were issued but happy to see that MLB didn’t go crazy suspending a bunch of guys for what is and always should be part of the game. I also liked to see that Strickland didn’t even get support from his catcher. Fight his own battle, it wasn’t a team problem. I didn’t understand anything about the helmet toss. Seemed a bit much, at least throw it into crowd for souvenir or at somebody running in for fight. Bruce B’s interview was classic, only thing he could say was about Harpers helmet toss. I’m still laughing.
Priggs89
I’m sure the MLB would love for him to throw his helmet into the crowd next time lol.
BSPORT
Right. Was a play on how ridiculous his helmet toss was. He gave it the side arm sling right into the ground. Was like a kid on the playground. Plus if he would have frisbee tossed it into the crowd he may have not got caught in the kisser upon arrival.
davidcoonce74
I think he was trying to pull a Youkilis vs. Porcello helmet toss, or a Pedro vs. Mike Williams helmet throw, but the helmet slipped out of his hand. Sweat.
Dark_Knight
Well considering it was a giant on giant take out why would they suspend them? Honestly that was the best part of the fight!
BSPORT
Didn’t realize they were on same team. That’s great. They all had Memorial Day uniforms on so they all blended together in the event. The guy came in like he was blasted out a cannon. He plowed into his own guys, priceless.
Jean Matrac
As was suggested by Wilbon, Harper went out with the intent to throw the helmet, but thought better of it at the last second, I watched the replay after hearing that and I can buy that explanation.
JoeyPankake
They should let baseball players handle it like hockey players. Nobody else steps in until someone hits the ground. No reason for the rest of the players to risk injury because two dudes are pissed at each other.
BSPORT
I like your thinking! There would be much more consideration on who a pitcher hits before he does if he knows it’s 1 on 1 and nobody covering you. I bet Judge, Stanton, Holiday and the bigger guys would never get hit.
bubba3b
the fight should’ve been over in 5 seconds. once bryce got to the mound:
1. hunter take one step to the right
2. do a drop toe hold on bryce
3. lock in a kurt angle ankle lock all the while screaming maniacally to the sky
either that or pull out ‘el socko’ and go mankind all over bryce…

I expect stone cold steve austin to just Come out and stun both teams, drink some beers, then leave
Dark_Knight
Honestly think Harper did the right thing. Kept it between those two. Now we don’t need a stupid back and forth plunk fest between both teams all series. It’s over.
jd396
Batters who strike out don’t get to hit the pitcher in the butt with a bat. If pitchers want to hit batters who hit homers they ought to pay for it. You can’t get away with cheap shots in hockey because some guy on the fourth line is going to smear your entrails all over the glass. It’s ridiculous to me that anyone would think it’s right to pelt guys with 98 mph pitches and hide behind your teammates running out of the dugout. Don’t hit a guy if you’re not willing to tangle with him one on one.
jdgoat
How does anybody actually think Harper is in the wrong here? God forbid he stands up for himself. Hell, buster posey didn’t even stand up for his pitcher, I think that speaks volumes to what he thought of stricklands moronic actions. Get better hunter and stop giving up home runs, or just stop playing so you don’t get so butt hurt. Baseballs unwritten rules need to be shot into the sun asap
davidcoonce74
Not only did Posey not protect his pitcher, did you notice the entire Giants infield didn’t jump in? The first Giants players to enter the fray were the bench guys. Speaks volumes about what Strickland’s teammates think of him.
AnthonyRizzo44
How often do we see a baseball brawl? Not very often. How often do players get hit by a pitch. Quite often. Harper should’ve been a man and just took his base. Anthony Rizzo seems to always lead the league in getting hit and how many times has he charged the mound? Zero. Harper has been hit once this year and as you know he charged the mound.
jdgoat
How many of rizzos are intentional though? Harper got hit because he hit a homerun 3 years ago. Somethings not right here
AnthonyRizzo44
True, but how can Harper know instantly in that moment that it was intentional. Strickland has had control issues in the past. I just feel the suspension of Harper should have been longer considering he charged the mound instead of going to first like a man
Iron Mike
you keep saying he should have just took his base “like a man”, but sticking up for yourself and going toe to toe with a guy throwing a 98mph heater at you isn’t “manly” enough for you?
tdh732
you sound like a democrat or black power guy… so what if he pulled a gun on him, the cop still shouldnt have shot him. Never been in a fight at school or in a bar? Never punched someone for talking crap? So now imagine getting hit by a 98 Mph fb on purpose (because it looks like it was)… I have been hit by 90+… it isnt fun.
And a side note, if this was a batter for batter plunking, you just move on (unless its up near the head) it is just part of the territory being the best hitter on the team.
Ry.the.Stunner
I’m sure quite a few of Rizzos are intentional. He’s a pretty damn good ballplayer and I’m sure a lot of pitchers take issue with him standing so close to the plate, albeit legally.
Even Kris Bryant. He hit 2 HR in his first two AB of a game last week. He was then HBP on the first pitch of each of the next two AB. Didn’t even hesitate to take his base with class.
thegreatcerealfamine
Yea cause all Cubs players exude class and are above accusing another player of PED’s!
Ry.the.Stunner
Remind me again what that has to do with this conversation.
I mentioned Rizzo and Bryant (neither of which were involved in that PED accusation), and this conversation is about being hit by a pitch and retaliation, not PEDs.
GarryHarris
Call me a skeptic but, I very much doubt Hunter Strickland hit Bryce Harper with a pitch in the hip in retaliation for a HR three years ago.
That was the first HBP for both Harper and Strickland this season. Should we expect Harper to continue to charge the mound every time someone hits him?
BSPORT
Hope so. Maybe we will see a Nolan Ryan vs Robin Ventura again!
wadlez
Yea… Stricklands first HBP of the year just happens to come on the first pitch he faces Harper since that playoff series that was 98 mph and almost went behind him. What’re the odds??
davidcoonce74
It was the most obvious HBP you can imagine; the fact that it was Strickland’s first speaks volumes. Strickland is a hot head. Remember “boy” in the 2014 WS?
billysbballz
Honestly
Harper holding onto that helmet and if I’m Strickland I’m thinking he’s using it as a weapon there makes me feel Harper deserved at least a ten game suspension? Strickland is a jackass also and deserved a right uppercut and s longer suspension but Harper carrying that helmet was an issue for me.
hiflew
Why would you want a deterrent? This was one of the most exciting things in baseball this season. We need to bring back toughness to the game. The person who should have been suspended was Posey for not protecting his pitcher.
jdgoat
So posey gets suspended for being a classy player and not letting his pitchers antics impact him?
chesteraarthur
it’s amazing what you see on these comment sections
davidcoonce74
Usually Posey steps in – see Bumgarner vs. Myers last season. Most catchers step in. The fact that Posey didn’t speaks volumes about what he thought of Strickland’s idiotic actions.
The Ghost of Bobby Bonilla
Somewhere right now Nolan Ryan is watching the replay of this “fight” and laughing hysterically at Strickland’s devastating slap.
moe 3
Strickland should get no suspension getting more than Harper is absurd
jdgoat
Good one
abcrazy4dodgers
Buster Posey should get a negative 3 game suspension (insurance?) for letting Strckland own the effect of his own temper tantrum.
Polish Hammer
Posey and the rest of the fielders all stood back as spectators because they didn’t support the pitcher. Any other time a catcher grabs the batter before he gets out of the box. Posey and the rest of the fielders watched and watched and watched…tells you what they think of Strickland and his selfish act.
start_wearing_purple
I don’t know if the throw was intentional but to me it looks like Harper is continuing to act like a diva.
CompanyAssassin
I know this is probably unpopular opinion, and I’m not defending Strickland, however, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? They didn’t even spend 1 day determining if there was actually intent, it really could have been a slip of the hand. But everyone loves Harper, therefore it’s easy to say “oh it’s intentional due to a two+ year old grudge”. And harper only getting 4 is garbage, there was way more hate coming out of harper, had he not failed completely, there was absolutely intent behind throwing his helmet at Strickland. Then the “fight”, I think they’re equally at fault, if you can really prove Strickland did it on purpose. And I mean like proof, not “look at the clip, its clear,” regardless of what you might think, that isn’t proof.
Priggs89
Hahahaha. In what world are you living in where “everyone loves Harper”? Read the comments on any article about him from any non-Nationals site, and I guarantee you more people are bashing him than loving him in 99% of them. This is the only comment section I’ve read on this site where it seems more people are on Harper’s side. That should show you how big of an idiot Strickland was/is in this situation.
Jeff Todd
Innocent until proven guilty is a tenet of the criminal justice system. This is quite a different situation. Also, there is an appeals process available. To the question of proof, we don’t know what the commissioner’s office considered here, but it’s possible they had more than we’re aware of and also that they drew together and analyzed evidence of a more circumstantial nature.
lucienbel
Thank you. You consistently understand how different punishments (and comments about “free speech”) may be handed down differently and apply differently in the venue of baseball vs state and the law. It makes me like this site even more…readers could learn a thing or two. Keep up the good work.
chive
“Innocent until proven guilty” applies in the court of law, not in private enterprise.
At best, Strickland was operating recklessly and endangering one of the most valuable assets in his field, try doing that at your job and see what happens. At worst, he was intentonally trying to harm another member of his own union on the job.
The suspensions are justified (if not light). Move along.
Jean Matrac
As a Giant’s fan, I have no doubt that Harper was hit intentionally. And, I think the suspensions are fair, since as bad as intentionally hitting a guy in the hip with a fastball is, charging the mound is more egregious. I understand it; Harper was understandably pissed, but guys get hit intentionally all the time and don’t charge the mound. Harper should have just taken his base with Strickland ejected, and a suspension of a game or 3.
Priggs89
The problem is that if Harper never charged the mound, Strickland most likely never would’ve gotten punished.
Jean Matrac
You may be right, but if so, it’s a problem. If MLB determined that Strickland hit Harper with intent, wouldn’t they have come to the same conclusion had Harper not charged the mound? IIRC pitchers have been suspended without the batter charging the mound.
greatdaysport
Hey Harper, next time just think, W.W.T.D. (What would Trout do).
wbraves29
Nobody gonna throw at Trout because he has class and won’t showboat his homeruns. Harper is a different story. Will never be in Trout’s league.
AnthonyRizzo44
Well said and agree @wbraves29
jdgoat
I think instead of whining and having tantrums by throwing at people like pitchers do, they should pitch better. Harper is aloud to defend himself from d-bags like Strickland
Ry.the.Stunner

bringoutthegimp
Buster knows what happened! Your on your own Hunter! Down 3 to zip ! Your team is struggling & you throw at Harp 1st pitch? Bet next time he pitches he’ll F Up again! He’s a Loser!!
AnthonyRizzo44
This is a joke. MLB is making a huge issue about suspending players who initiate fights. If Harper brushes it off and goes to first nothing happens, but he points the bat at him, chucks his helmet, and charges the mound and actually starts the fight. Don’t give me wrong, both players deserve to be suspended, but where did Strickland throw the ball? At his thigh, not his head. Honestly, how could you say it was intentional immediately when the pitch was thrown. For all Harper knows the pitch slipped. The only reason Harper’s suspension is for 4 games is because now that Mike Trout is injured, Harper is the best player in baseball when he wants to be. And the saddest thing of it all is that Harper had taught all of the young viewers that it is alright to not only throw punches, but their own helmet and most likely only receive a 2 game suspension after appealing.
davidcoonce74
That pitch was the most intentional pitch I’ve seen since Armando vs. Tino in 1998.
AnthonyRizzo44
I’m not saying that Strickland doesn’t deserve a suspension, but four games for Harper is a joke. I’d say chucking his helmet like that is 4. Strickland I would’ve guessed 5 and Harper somewhere in the 5-10 range.
jdgoat
Harper gets suspended more for throwing his helmet away from a player?
AnthonyRizzo44
Harper still doesn’t need to charge the mound. If he just acts like a man and goes to first, Strickland gets suspended maybe 1-2 games and he gets nothing. Also, as Harper is awful at throwing helmets he wound up to throw it and completely missed.
Polish Hammer
If Harper doesn’t charge the mound Strickland gets nothing and nothing is solved.
JFactor
Strickland should get the brunt of this because throwing at a player is no worse than a player throwing his helmet at another player.
The idea that it’s somehow acceptable to hurl a 98 mph, small, hard object at a person from 60 feet away without them knowing is unbelievable. Get that out of the game. It’s not welcomed.
MLB needs to seriously step in on this stuff. Harper 10, Strickland 25, and have that the deal for future situations like this.
Intentionally throw at a player, auto 10+ games. Manager and PC a game each (send the message), and if a player crosses that line into the field at a player, it’s 10 games.
frankiegxiii
The best hit in this fight came from neither Harper nor Strickland. The best part was watching Samardzija get taken out by Morse, pretty sure one them also got socked in the face by the other. never seen an appeal happen and suspension reduced so fast.
outinleftfield
The bigger question is unless it’s a pitch up in the zone, head hunting that might end a career, do we need a deterrent at all? Let the players sort it out on the field.
LordBanana
Because it’s 2017 and by now we should realize throwing a hard ball at someone at 90 mph because they hit home runs off you two years ago is ridiculously stupid.
And also players get hit when pitchers aren’t even trying. There’s no possible way to throw a major league fastball at someone safely.
