Giants To Sign Peter Bourjos

By Jeff Todd | July 13, 2018 at 6:16pm CDT

The Giants have agreed to a minors deal with outfielder Peter Bourjos, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area (via Twitter). He’ll head to the team’s top affiliate.

Bourjos, 31, has been on and off the Braves’ MLB roster this year. He hasn’t hit much at all in limited opportunities. Neither has he done much more in recent campaigns. Since the start of 2014, Bourjos carries a .229/.286/.366 slash through 1,152 trips to the plate at the game’s highest level.

That said, the numbers have been much better this year at Triple-A, where Bourjos is a .277/.352/.511 hitter in 105 plate appearances. And the nine-year MLB veteran is much better known for his defense and baserunning. For the Giants, he’ll represent an insurance policy in center field.

Bourjos left the Braves at the right time. Braves may finish near .500. Good for Bourjos to get out. Inciarte isn’t all that great anyway either.

Are you Bourjos? Or his mom or dad?

Neither, but tell me what part of what I just said isn’t true? Inciarte is an over rated player, period. Bourjos got out because he saw he couldn’t get past the delusions of A.A. or the incompetence of Snitker. Enjoy Danny Santana and Preston Tucker.

If he gets released, Braves will sign him to a minor league.- He will always have a home with the Braves.

Best of luck to him. He only just turned 31.

Why in the world would an up and coming team like the Braves sign this guy?

They signed him to a one year $1M major league contract, released him; re-signed him to a minor league deal, then released him again.

It was a joke because of how many times he joined them previously.

dunno, thought it was pretty funny because they gave him $1M guaranteed, cut him, then re-signed.

          Lol. As always… Tough crowd!!

Yeah, the Braves have world beaters Tucker and Santana. They didn’t need Bourjos. LOL.

What’s used properly? Defensive replacement, or minor league depth?

Using him more than 44 at bats in 2 months or replacing him with lesser players like Tucker and Santana.

I’m surprised SF made this move with Gregor Blanco already in AAA. I get this is a defensive depth move, but Bourjos isn’t gonna provide much offense aside from pinch running.

And Bourjos is a large upgrade over Blanco?

Bourjos is 3 years younger. And if you look at their career WAR, Bourjos is better. Some of you need to get over this batting average fixation, because sometimes, I think that’s all people look at.

Hey giants have knocked it out of the park with minor league signings in the past, maybe he’ll reinvigorate his career in SF. Probably not but definitely possible.

Even this season, their minor league signings have been pretty good: Holland and Hanson being two of them. d’Arnaud looks like he could stick.

Also don’t forget Dereck Rodriguez. Gorkys was also a minors signing

What in the world are the Giants thinking. Maybe I should just put a sign up and say will take all your old and decrepit and worthless players and pay them just so they will have a place to graze. In my personal opinion this is getting ridiculous and out of hand. Maybe it’s time to start replacing some of the folks up in the upper office.
