Mets Designate Ty Kelly

By Jeff Todd | July 24, 2018 at 3:10pm CDT

The Mets have designated utilityman Ty Kelly for assignment, Mike Puma of the New York Post tweets. Joel Sherman of the New York Post first reported on Twitter that Kelly would be sent out, though it was not yet clear by what method.

That move will allow the team to bring up Phillip Evans, who needed a 40-man and active roster spot. It’s not yet clear what the corresponding move will be for the Mets’ other anticipated move today. The club is reportedly set to bring up infielder Jeff McNeil for the first time.

Kelly, 30, brings plenty of versatility to the table but has not yet provided any offense at the big league level. He’s capable of handling second base, third base and the outfield corners but has compiled just a .203/.288/.323 slash through 188 trips to the plate at the big league level. He’s been more successful in Triple-A, hitting .274/.377/.396 in more than 1900 PAs.

I swear Reyes must have a “pee tape” on the Wilpons or something bigger. There’s no reason for him to be on the roster at this point.

It is absolutely unbelievable!!! This is exactly why they should not trade deGROM. Does anyone really believe that they possess the ability to make a team positive trade?

They made a real great trade with the A’s. How could anyone doubt this management?

Because they envision him retiring as a Met with a packed crowd buying last chance Reyes souvenirs. I see an empty stadium with Mets’ fans at home watching reruns of I Dream Of Jeannie. Given a choice, which would you rather watch?

They’ll at least get w/ the times, and watch re-runs of Doug in his Mets uniform on King of Queens.

Anyone of a certain age will take Barbara Eden every time. Those too young do a Google search.

I actually am not ashamed to admit that I have done a Google search to see her in an even skimpier costume as the navel was taboo to be seen in the 1960’s on television.
Of course none of this has anything to do with baseball!

Ty Kelly is not old enough to
play for the Mets. I think you have to be 34.
