Sure, the ATL beat writers really pumped up the Duvall trade, but looking at his numbers (and glove) – he could have really been an impact player if he was anywhere close to career numbers. Granted, he didn’t get a lot of ABs, but the primary reason that trade was made was to get rid of Lucas Sims/Matt Wisler and clear 40-man spots for potential bullpen spots going into the playoffs. Neither of those were dependable as long relief options.
Yeah I am not worried about the Duvall deal. Atlanta gained roster spots by sending Cincinnati guys that didn’t look to have a future in Atlanta for a got in Duvall that had displayed above average defense and power historically. Yes, Duvall STUNK once he put on a braves uniform, but he doesn’t cost too much (although they still may non tender him) and it is still possible he bounces back. LOL if he does, then the move looks good.
The Duvall trade seemed like a reasonable stab at trying to catch lightning in a bottle. The deal that bothered me was dumping Peterson to bring back Tucker to sit on the bench. That didn’t make any sense.
I know I shouldn’t be, but I am continually surprised by the number of people who didn’t read past the Bryant headline and see what was really said. It was a Friday filler story by Olney as evidenced by this line in the article “Theo Epstein, the head of baseball operations, was asked earlier this week at the GM meetings about the availability of Bryant and…..”. “Earlier this week” should be enough of a clue that it was a non-story.not to mention Theo saying “Given what we’re trying to accomplish, it would be virtually impossible to envision the deal that would make sense to move them.”
It’s not a Steve Adams chat without Steve throwing the Twins in the mix of big boy clubs.
