White Sox Claim Josh Osich

By Steve Adams | March 11, 2019 at 1:45pm CDT

The White Sox announced Monday that they’ve claimed left-handed reliever Josh Osich off waivers from the Orioles. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, Chicago has placed right-hander Michael Kopech on the 60-day injured list. Osich, 30, was designated for assignment by Baltimore last week. Kopech, meanwhile, is expected to miss the entire 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery late in the 2018 campaign.

Osich, 30, has spent time with the Giants in each of the past four seasons, though he’s struggled increasingly at the MLB level dating back to 2016. In 120 1/3 innings, Osich has a 5.01 ERA with 7.9 K/9, 4.6 BB/9, 1.50 HR/9 and a 51.8 percent ground-ball rate. Last year in Triple-A, Osich posted a 4.96 ERA with a 42-to-18 K/BB ratio in 45 1/3 innings.

Osich does have a minor league option remaining, and he’s also averaged roughly 95 mph on his heater throughout his career. Right-handed batters have owned him at the MLB level (.294/.385/.496), though he’s held lefties to a more manageable (albeit still unspectacular) .228/.319/.388 line in his time as a big leaguer. San Francisco designated Osich for assignment a month ago when they acquired young righty Jose Lopez from the Reds, after which he was claimed by the Orioles. Osich’s time in the Baltimore organization lasted only about three weeks, as the O’s designated him Friday upon picking up Dwight Smith Jr. from the Blue Jays.

The whole roster is a dumpster dive. Seriously, is there even one legit All Star caliber player on this garbage roster?

Yet you say the Padres will be fun to watch because of their up and coming prospects. Stay in LA, Chicago doesn’t want you.

Yep, Manny will be a lot of fun to watch, so will Tatis Jr (remember him?) The Pads boast the best farm in the game.

Totally, but they will stink this year so they are irrelevant and no one will care about them, right? They haven’t made the playoffs since 2006 and their front office is inept, right? Yet you praise them. At least you are consistent with your contradictions.

I praised their moves this offseason. I praised their development of the best farm in the game. There’s a reason no one believes in the Sox rebuild. This is the same front office that claimed to be “ALL IN” just a few years back (ya know, when they traded Tatis Jr for Shields) yet they ended up with a worse record than teams ACTIVELY tanking. Now, since this “rebuild” or really… build because you can’t rebuild something that never existed in the first place, anyway it’s been nothing but a parade of busts graduating to the bigs. Moncada is already being compared to Buxton, Giolito, Rodon, Fulmer, Lopez … BUST, BUST, BUST, BUST and Kopech’s arm fell off, so he won’t even be able to become a bust until at least 2020 (it’s not like he was doing well before his arm blew up)

See, if the fans know this, and the media knows this, obviously the players know this. That’s why Machado turned down the Sox potentially better offer for a team with a rebuild him and his reps believe in. In spite of Rick/Kenny being so desperate and thirsty for a legitimate star, that they signed all of Machado’s over the hill scrub friends/relatives (whom of course the Sox are now stuck with while Manny is in SD)

See, what Rick and Kenny failed to mention during their used car sales pitch on the rebuild is that MANY have tried what the Cubs/Astros have done but VERY few actually succeeded.

Again, the Sox will continue to be irrelevant jokes across baseball as long as JRs loyalty to inept front offices guys remains. The same thing is happening to the Bulls because of his loyalty to GarPax. The difference is, the Bulls have no competition, so they continue to be a cash cow in this market, but the Cubs have rendered the Sox a mid/small market irrelevant team. Embarrassingly bad attendance/ratings. So I wouldn’t compare your team with the Padres, most non homer fans would much rather have their future than whatever is going on with south side. Not a “contradiction”, a pretty clear objective observation.

You literally say the same things over and over again in every post specifically “All In”. The All In season was 2011 when they signed Dunn not in 2017 when they signed Shields. You’ve said that line a dozen times on Sox threads and have been wrong every time. Regardless it was not a good trade but as you say “a prospect is just a prospect and not proven”, right? Does that only apply when talking about the Sox?

Machado went to SD for more guaranteed money any everyone knows it. Sox didn’t pay up so he moved on. The whole process/pitch was a joke but to say he didn’t want to play for the Sox is unsubstantiated nonsense and you know it.

Then you throw in this crap how attendance sucks and the team is irrelevant as if that proves some sort of point. The Sox have sucked so of course they are irreverent. What losing team is relevant and since when does high attendance equal wins? The Sox fill seats when they’re competing and don’t when they suck.

I love how you ended your post by saying it’s an objective observation. There is nothing objective about anything you say. You clearly hate the White Sox which is fine. My gripe with you is you are far from and objective baseball fan. You obviously hold the Sox prospect to a higher standard since with your logic the Cubs should of given up on Baez, Almora, Happ, Russell and Schwarber. None of them had great first or second years yet you are quick to right off players on the Sox with a very small sample size. Half the Sox prospects haven’t even been called up but you’re already labeling the rebuild a “bust” It’s seriously mind numbing and completely irrational.

This is so hard for me to say, but I give up on the Sox, and I’ve been a fan since 1951. There’s a better team in town, right in my neighborhood, so the hell with the cheap WS.
