The Angels announced that they have recalled righty Nick Tropeano from Triple-A to start tonight’s game. Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times first reported that decision on Twitter.
To create roster space, the club designated southpaw Adalberto Mejia for assignment. Mejia was recently claimed off waivers from the Twins.
The Halos will hope that Mejia clears waivers and can be stashed at Triple-A. He’d be a nice depth piece to have on hand, particularly for an organization that needs both rotation and bullpen options. Mejia had endured a brutal stretch in Minnesota to open the year but gave his new club four good outings (one earned run, 6:1 K/BB in 4 1/3 innings) to open his tenure.
As for Tropeano, this’ll be his latest attempt to reestablish himself in the majors. He was ambushed in two prior MLB starts this year. And things haven’t gone well at Triple-A, either. Through 49 1/3 frames, he’s carrying a 7.66 ERA on 64 base knocks with 10.4 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9.

Yeah I want them to scoop him up, too. I was hoping they’d have got him when Minny let him go. Especially with the possibility that Stroman might be gone soon and possibly one or more of Giles/Hudson/Phelps he’d be a nice body to have on hand and potentially something good long term.
Yep. He was rated fairly high as a prospect. It’s why I wish they gave Kingham more of a shot. There’s some potential in these guys and this is the perfect year to try and tap into it.

Tayler Scott has options…..That’s the difference. Orioles probably will now get Mejia Also.
a lot of guys in their pen have options, but most of them are all absolutely terrible. theyre rebuilding and a lot of their arms would clear easily. no reason not to give him at least a week-long trial.

Aside from Adell, the Angels should make a move at Thor. If not, they better be big spenders after the 2019 winter meetings. That means Bum, Keuchel, etc. They need arms not offense. The Angels have had no problems scoring runs, and with the youth movement underway the offense has a bright future.
