The Cardinals are optioning slumping third baseman Nolan Gorman to Triple-A Memphis and selecting the contract of corner infielder Blaze Jordan, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. In other moves, right-hander Hunter Dobbins will head to Memphis, while the Cardinals are recalling righty Chris Roycroft. Injured infielder Ramón Urías will move to the 60-day IL.
More to come…

Dang, I really thought they’d stick with Gorman until at least the all star break. This tells me Chaim has seen enough to at least partially abandon the “rebuild year” plan, and buy into this years team as a legit contender. Mo would have never made this move (or the Crooks call-up). I think Dobbins is back within a few days, as he just pitched yesterday so he’d be wasted space on the 26 man.
I wonder how soon we will see Baez
I don’t know if I’d read that far into it. Gorman just wasn’t performing at all (something like 3 for his last 50 with 27 Ks), and they need to get a look at possible future options at 3B. Blaze was having a great year at Memphis and only striking out at 11%. Agree that Mo would’ve never done this, though. I don’t think Bloom will stray from his vision, though — he’s repeatedly stated “no shortcuts.”
I’m with Mack.
Blaze is gonna be 🔥🔥🔥
Good. Gorman has severely underperformed. Hopefully Blaze is the answer.
Blaze is a great kid.
We clearly live in a new Cardinals era. Sending down Gorman tells me that we have minimum standards.
Minimum standards and a lot less strikeouts!!!
I will never forgive the Cardinals organization for not calling Blaze up on April 20.
DD, that possibility went up in smoke but I agree it would have been lit.
Thank God. I hope Blaze can handle 3B
I love it.
Good. At least now we get to see how bad of a third baseman Jordan really is instead of just hearing about it.
I feel like the advanced metrics give us completely different answers than the eye test. It wasn’t more than 4 months ago that we were hearing that JJ Wetherholt would be an average or passable defender. Now dude’s on track for the Gold Glove already if you like Defensive Runs Saved or Outs Above Average.
Yeah I do kind of want to see it for myself. If hes passable then great let him play there for a bit. If not I would trade for Royce Lewis. Jordan for Lewis but only if he cant play 3b.
I knew yesterday when he got pinch hit for, down by one, with a RH pitcher on the mound, this was coming. He just wasn’t making contact anymore. Fermin is a better option at this point.
I’m interested to see what Jordan can do, but I’m not looking to sacrifice defense. Our pitchers need all the help they can get and Gorman was playing much better than I expected with the glove.
A chance for Gorman to go down and see if he’s fixable. He and Scott can work on things under less pressure and the kids a Memphis get to see there is a path to the big leagues and performance does matter.
It’s been years. He’s not fixable.
Yup, there’s nothing to fix. This is just who he is.
Fix his swing. That’s his problem.
Unfortunately this had to be done but im excited to see what Blaze can bring!
The idea was to see how Gorman and Walker responded this season. JW sure did. Gorman is absolutely lost. Hope Blaze can handle the hot corner. Could be time to look at moving on from Nolan…
Career splits, half the stadiums that he hits worse in than Busch Stadium. He’s playing in the wrong Park
Gorman
I hope he doesn’t get torched by MLB pitching! I also hope Gorman can work on his swing/approach in Memphis and still be a contributor later in the season.
I think this is more about giving Blaze a shot than it is about trying to fix Gorman. I’m guessing Gorman’s confidence is low enough that more time in the lineup or on the pine in STL wasn’t going to help. I wish Gorman and Blaze all the best.
Blaze Jordan for Royce Lewis. Who says no? If Jordan cant play 3b I would like to see this happen. Then have Gorman and Lewis cover 3b for the next couple years and draft Lebron or Bell at 13.
Will Blaze ever live past the hype of his HR derby video on youtube? Or is he just destined to be a beer league softball player?
Blaze will be a monster. Tibbs will be too. Breslow is going to look so bad.
Oh happy day! I no longer have to watch Gorman strike out 54% of the time!!
It’s actually pronounced “Blah-zay” according to Mr. Garvey
