Braves To Sign Lucas Duda

By Jeff Todd | August 5, 2019 at 6:41pm CDT

The Braves have agreed to a minors deal with first baseman Lucas Duda, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network (via Twitter). The Roster Roundup Twitter account first connected the sides.

Duda, 33, will seek to reprise the role he played late last year in Atlanta, when he provided some bench punch in September. He’ll begin by trying to get his swing in form at Triple-A.

This has been a season to forget so far for the veteran slugger. Given a limited role in Kansas City, Duda failed to earn more opportunities. Ultimately, he limped to a .171/.252/.324 batting line in 119 plate appearances for the Royals. He was cut loose recently when the team couldn’t find a trade taker.

I mean, it’s a low risk deal… but I don’t see the need here. We have plenty of guys who can backup Freeman. Riley for example… Camargo can. Heck, pretty sure even CC can. Maybe he can turn it around be a sweet bench bat with pop for us

Good call on CC covering 1st. If I’m not mistaken CC has played a little first base this season. I cant remember the date or team but I believe it was during a game the Braves were up big and Freddie was rested. CC did well there. Just like everywhere else.

probably just depth insurance in case of injury. Plus, he can eat some time at first in Sept. if we can build a decent lead.

This is a strange acquisition. So, watch Lucas Duda be the season’s hero.

Just remember he’s not very good at throwing to home plate under pressure

It’s a reference to 2015 World Series most Royals fans are very happy he is bad at throwing to first, lol

he signed a minors deal ffs. it’s not like they’re hyping it up to be hitting clean up for the series.

Well said Nora, he can shut up a lot of haters with a late 3 run pinch hit bomb in a hurry (like the one he at suntrust a few weeks ago.)

Joyce hasn’t exactly been lighting it up lately. He got off to a hot start but has cooled. He’s had a lot of pitches to hit lately and has been popping them up. Just did it again in his first AB tonight.

Rosters go to 40 in like 3 weeks and the Braves may actually want to rest Freeman a game or two

Nope, they changed that rule this year… Clubs must carry 28 players on the active roster in September…

I don’t think that rule goes into action until 2020. It’s still 40 man rosters for this Sept.

As long as there are teams who care of nothing but the occasional home run, the Lucas Dudas of the world will always find work.

I think the Braves want to add a new face so he can also experience an eventual collapse by the terrible Braves team.

They have a good shot at a AAA title though!

Ummmm the question in this team was that everything was good in acquiring 3 RP..but they really believe that with the starting pitching staff that you can compete in these playoffs We are not up to dodgers. I know it was not easy to get something like that but yesterday vs the marlins there were problems
