Yankees Place Thairo Estrada On IL, Recall Tyler Wade

By Anthony Franco | August 18, 2019 at 10:18am CDT

10:18 am: Estrada suffered the injury running the bases in yesterday’s game, manager Aaron Boone tells Bryan Hoch of MLB.com (via Twitter).

10:06 am: The Yankees announced today they have placed infielder Thairo Estrada on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. Utiltyman Tyler Wade is up from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre to take his place.

Estrada, 23, made his MLB debut in April. He’s been up-and-down from Scranton all year, totaling his first 61 MLB plate appearances. Regarded generally as a utility prospect, Estrada’s .266/.313/.452 line in Triple-A is unremarkable. It was encouraging to see him healthy until today, though, as he lost most of 2018 after being shot in a robbery attempt in his native Venezuela after the 2017 season.

Wade’s ridden the Scranton-New York shuttle multiple times over the past three seasons. The 24 year-old has put up a .177/.250/.257 line (37 wRC+) in the big leagues, although he’s never gotten an extended run to get into a rhythm. Instead, he’s mostly spent time in Triple-A, where he’s hit fairly well and stolen a few bases but never shown enough power to play his way into the Bronx full-time.

Can we catch a break with the injury bug?
This is getting a little ridiculous.

Honestly that’s one of the more annoying comments here when someone complains about “we”.

Agreed. It used to annoy when someone went on a diatribe and constantly was “we’ing” it up and talking as if they were in the dugout.

Now it’s done a complete 180, and people pick out a single “we” and nag about it.

          Get a life.

I remember when Wade was the next Blake Rutherford. A guy the Yanks could trade for any Cy Young candidate.

For every Gleyber Torres, there are at least five Tyler Wades.

@melchez You really gotta stop. I can’t think of a single Yankee fan that EVER thought, said or dreamed that Wade, a career .271/.351/.370 mike infielder would ever be more than a piece of a package for a starter. The 3rd or 4th piece depending on how great the main prospect was. Why you feel the need to make matters up boggles my mind. Even if there were a clown or two who may suggested it, have some common sense to understand that they are mentally challenged followers of every sports team. There’s no way that you heard the idea of Wade, who barely made one top 100 list, could fetch us a meaningful arm and by meaningful I mean more than a #5 starter or ok middle reliever.

Frazier, lasagna, garcia. Bird, sheffield, the list of top 100 prospects from the yankees that never did anything. No wonder their fans want them traded.

Frazier has been above average, loasiga is still young and could be good. Garcia is 20, bird has never been healthy and Sheffield is 23. The delusional fan may just be the haters. Also what about the roster full of home grown kids who already made it.

Most of the Yankees 25 man roster isn’t homegrown.

One or two players sure… the yankees seem to get quite a few of these “top prospects” who turn into nothing. It’s the Yankee hype. Yankee fans were screaming about how great Frazier and Garcia and Lasagna are and how they could get a return of Bumgarner… Well, Frazier and Lasagna have shown us what they can do. Let’s just wait for Garcia.

Mets and Red Sox have a far longer list of overhyped prospects that didn’t make it.

Not really. Yankees win that distinction. Hands down.

don’t they win the distinction of taking peoples throwaways and making them perform above their prior average also? Tauchman, Urshel, Hicks, Gregorius, voit, maybin, kahnle? But then again, admitting to that would go against your obvious agenda, wouldn’t it?

You can conduct your own research but I’m POSITIVE most teams whiff on 70% of the prospects they have on a top 100 list. I have no idea what point you’re trying to prove dredging up prospects from 1989.
