Dodgers To Sign Edubray Ramos

By Jeff Todd | January 7, 2020 at 12:11pm CDT

The Dodgers have a minors deal with righty Edubray Ramos, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). It includes an invitation to MLB camp.

Ramos, 27, is a nice buy-low candidate to roll the dice on. He had been an effective hurler for the Phillies but was non-tendered after an injury-riddled 2019 season in which he was ineffective and showed reduced velocity when he was available to pitch.

If all works out, the Dodgers can retain Ramos for years into the future via arbitration. He threw 42 2/3 innings of 2.32 ERA ball with 8.9 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 for the Phils in 2018.

Edubray Ramos AND Jimmy Nelson in the same day?

    Calm down, Friedman.

I just wonder having assets is great, but there are only so many roster spots. For example, as it stands how are they going to find playing time for Pederson, Verdugo, Pollock, Bellinger, Beaty, Taylor, et al.?

Shouldn’t be tough to find playing time for Bellinger.

Hey Dave. I haven’t seen your handle since the Scout message board years. Where are you posting at these days?

…Garlik, Toles, Peters… lets change the team name to Outfielders Surplus.

I really liked Toles. Good arm, hit for contact, fast….. I thought either he or Verdugo could be the true lead off hitter the Dodgers have lacked since Dee Gordon was traded.

Unfortunately, Toles has “personal problems” and won’t be back and Verdugo is working with a back injury.

@david722Depth isn’t a bad thing. Its on Roberts and where his darts land for his daily setting of the line up. Nobody knows who is starting or what position they will be at.

        Bellinger will probably be ok.

Trades. Gotta be a trade coming. Too many useable players on the roster and far too many quality prospects to protect. Something has to give.

In 2018 this guy was solid. Another smart potential bullpen signing by Friedman.

It’s 2020 though. Why not sign players who were good last season?

It’s almost as if bullpen arms are so up and down like a roller coaster.. So signing a guy who was good last season isn’t much more of a guarentee to do better than 2 years ago

He was only interested in going home to ATl or taking the QO. Pretending he was doing anything but that is dumb.

One of the surprise non-tenders by the Phillies. This guy has a good arm, Friedman is a smart man.

Who is “Roberts Handle”? Is he as bad at managing big games as Dave Roberts is?

He was DFA’d. I think the main reason why they did this was because he was out of options.

On a minors deal, it’s fine. A good arm maybe but he has a problem finding the strike zone.

mad Klentak not only chose to non-tender him, but also couldn’t give him a small Majors deal. this pen will be terrible again.

Good high upside pickup but they definitely need more proven arms in the pen before they go looking for guys like this.
