Mets Sign First-Rounder Pete Crow-Armstrong

By Connor Byrne | June 25, 2020 at 3:21pm CDT

The Mets have signed first-round pick Pete Crow-Armstrong, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com tweets. He’ll earn the full slot value of his selection, No. 19, with a $3,359,000 bonus.

The 18-year-old Crow-Armstrong, an outfielder from Los Angeles, committed to Ohio State prior to the draft. He entered the proceedings as a top 25 prospect according to Keith Law of The Athletic (No. 10), Baseball America (No. 17), ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel (No. 18), MLB.com (No. 20) and FanGraphs (No. 25). Law, the biggest fan of Crow-Armstrong among the bunch, praised his all-around game, especially his defense in center field, writing, “The defensive and positional value give him a higher floor than most teenagers in the class have, and the possibility for a 60 bat with 50 power gives him a star ceiling.”

The Crow-Armstrong deal leaves the Mets with just one unsigned draft pick, second-rounder J.T. Ginn, whose selection (No. 52) comes with a recommended value of $1,403,000. The Mets still have about $2.6MM left in their draft pool, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, so it seems they’re in good position to sign Ginn.

How would they not know that there is one? Mets players should know that all the time, since after we win championships, you guys get them at some point when your’e trying to add players with championship experience. Not that it has made a difference because…1986.

And 2003 was yesterday. You sound so immature that you probably weren’t around or in pampers. The Mets came into the league in 62 and won in 69, 7 years. But unlike the 20 games behind the braves WE WON THE NL EAST, which you NEVER have done.

When the Mets are sold Brodie Van Lunchwagon will be the first to be let go; he will never see any of this.

That is probably a good thing since this good young talent won’t be traded away for some washed up high priced Steroid junkie.

    The Mets look good

    Right Now
Next couple years with controlled talent +Books
    And the Next Wave after

From a Talent/Books measure Id love to take over this team for this decade –

Kinda saddening Degroom Noah Wheeler Matz could never all come together at the same time but you really have to love what they have done on the offensive side
Alonso Smith Rosario McNeil Jd Conforto Nimmo…. I dont think that has gotten nearly enough respect as it deserves though I think that changes real soon- I think the Mets have one of the best outlooks in the Nl the next 5-10 yrs (Braves Lad as well for the top 3 NL)…..

Bold prediction…. They win a WS before the Yankees do

The Meta have an inferiority complex to the Yankees ( I grew up in Nassau County so I understand this).’ Here is the real number: Since the Mets came in the League in 1962, the Yankees won 8 titles to the Mets 2 and 5 occurred since the Mets last won in 1986. Basically the Mets are the Yankees kid sister.

Not a Yankee hater /not a Mets fan

Lot of what factors in for me is I think the Nl is easier to get thru and id take Degroom over Cole in a game 7 scenario-

Your Yankees are STILL very good, Don’t worry……. I feel more Yankee fans get upset at the Mets getting any positive attention than Mets fans get upset at the Yankees……… Not so sure on that inferiority complex you speak

As a long time Mets fan I don’t get why fans keep bringing up the Yankees in a post concerning the Mets.

The Yankees have and had good ownership and a committed front office for a long time and a long history of winning, most WS.

Just enjoy the Mets as I do and leave it at that.

Mets have been snake bitten by bad ownership, Tampons for example and clueless front office like Van Lunchwagon who is a running joke.

Hopefully the team will be sold as we all hoped it would before the Wilponzies killed the deal now having to take billions less.

That says it all; lets just enjoy the game!

The Mets get plenty of respect. Everyone knows they have a sneaky good roster and no one would be surprised if they were a playoff team. The only way they will have consistent success is if the Wilpons sell the team (looking that way) and Brodie gets canned.

Pete Crow-Armstrong committed to Vanderbilt, not Ohio State. Love the Harvard-Westlake high school program but I wonder if PCA will be as good as advertised. Power and bat are primary risks but seems like he has a very good glove and speed.

Sorry, but Crow-Armstrong is nowhere near the prospect that Kelenic is. Kelenic has proven to be one of the best bats in the minors. Crow-Armstrong’s biggest question marks are his bat and his power.

Power is the last tool to develop so I’m not worried. I also know Kelenic is a higher prospect. But I meant to say it the Mets won’t be hurt by that team like others teams might have. They have Davis nimmo conforto and now Armstrong waiting in the wings for the OF. Will Kelenic even hit better than conforto or Davis???

I am constantly amazed by the constant anti Brodie comments. In his one year the team finished 10 games ,over 500 and improved by 9 games over 2018. If Diaz had come close to his 2018 numbers they would have been in the play offs and maybe won the division. Of course all of the arm chair experts knew Diaz would take a few steps backward and they all KNOW that Kelensic will be the next Mike Trout. Maybe Met fans should stop all the negativity and try to at least attempt to be objective. Brodie is dealing with all of the negatives that the Wilpon’s provide. Their two drafts seem very promising. It’s so easy to sit at home and micromanage. Let’s go Mets.

The second the trade happened, it was horrible, and that was assuming Diaz stayed a top 5 (and cost effective) closer and Cano could stay relatively healthy for 2-3 years.

You will have to take my word for it but I told friends at the time of the trade that Diaz would not have a good season and I was laughed at early on when I called into talk radio but later was proven right, unfortunately as a Mets fan

        1) He is to small a guy and has to throw with all his body and does not stay under control as a power pitcher. He slings the ball and it flattens out.
Watch his delivery as he winds up off balance.

        2) Secondly you never trust a reliever based upon his one good year to the next.

        3) He gave up a lot of home runs and even lost his job in Seattle at one time as the closer, they sold high and BVM got taken.

        4) I will not use the Luchwagon joke again. 🙂

5.) The league adjusted and Diaz never did and never will by his comments of bad luck.

6.) Cano trade saddled the Mets with 100 million dollars

7.) I will repeat below for parkers and his 9 game comment
Pete Alonso who BVM had nothing to do with improved the Mets by 9 games

Edwin Diaz at his best is not worth a top 5 draft pick. Not only that they took on a horrible contract. Its not just that trade. They gave up 3 players for Broxtan and ended up getting rid of him in the same season. Familia and Lowrie were like flushing money down a toilte. Stroman trade was terrible. He is not a good GM and thats because he wasn’t an executive in the first place.

BVW has made many horrific trades, but let’s not get carried away. The trade for Stroman was great. The Mets gave up essentially nothing, just 2 pitchers without a plus pitch between them. This for a proven plus pitcher having a great year. I was shocked that the Mets got him so cheap, most people were.

If they had made it to the play offs or better yet won the World Series, it was a horrible trade, because it just was. I guess it was because they gave away the future in two absolutely quarenteed prospects and at the same time took on Cano’s contract.

I always thought that it was the results on the field that determined success. Improving 9 games from the : year before is not as significant as giving away two guaranteed future all stars. Maybe we should not play this season and just each cast a vote concerning what you think of the team. After the poll results are in that will be their designation. Why waste time playing the games after all the poll results will tell us how good a job Brodie did.

Pete Alonso who BVM had nothing to do with improved the Mets by 9 games.

Jeff McNeil had a great season even though he was pushed out of his normal defensive position by BVM; that even some MLB analysts said might hurt his offense.

They did not make the playoffs so a miss is not as good as a mile.
Secondly the Mets traded at the deadline the year before which attributes to not winning as many games.

So no BVM did not help win 9 more games either.

And when the Mets are sold make bank that BVM will be gone.

Diaz gave up 10 HRS in 68 inn in 2017, 5 in 73 inn in 2018, 15 in 58 inn in 2019. I don’t think HRS allowed was the reason they traded him.

Brodie went against industry NORM in bringing Alonso UP at the beginning of 2019. Lost a year of service time in process. They originally planned on Frazier at 1b and Lowrie at 3rd till later in the summer.

QUIZ Who are the three players they gave up for Broxton??
Quiz what Met’s minor league teams did the the two players they gave for Stroman?
    Quiz what were their records?

Doesn’t being a player agent require that he know everything about his players and all others that he will be compared to?

I think most people listen to all the media experts and then parrot them.

Diaz just turned 26 years old. Trades require a few years before they can be properly evaluated.

Quiz, Since Diaz is not worth a number Five pick, can you tell me how many number five picks have made it to the majors over the last 10 years?

Dude you can’t be serious by giving BVM credit for bringing Alonso up one month earlier. Are you related to BVM or somehow in the Mets organization as a Troll!

Against industry NORM are you kidding us!
He is the first and only player that was brought up with loss of a years service.
If he didn’t bring him up to start the season with his announced Win Now approach he never would have survived the media and fan backlash.

Diaz set the all time MLB RECORD for 15 gopher balls in the ninth inning in 2019.

Jacob deGrom only gave up 19 HRs in 204 innings!
Lets do the math: Diaz would have given up 53 HRs in 204 innings!

As we all witnessed they were horrific game losing HRs not what a closer is for.

It was known early on that Lowrie, another horrible BVM pickup, was not going to play in 2019 and also known that Frazier was going to be gone by the end of the previous season so that excuse does not work either.

You must be related to this guy or in his organization as a press agent Troll.

I am done responding to an obvious family member, friend or employee of BVM.

Doesn’t being a player agent mean you would consider all players not just the ones who were your clients!

You said Seattle gave up on him because of gopher balls. Stats say otherwise.

Another guy says Diaz is not worth a number 5 draft pick( I believe Kelensic was #8) I asked how many #5 picks have made it to the majors over last ten years

Same guy said they traded three players for Broxton if it was so stupid I asked him to name them

Same with Stroman I am willing to bet that no one on this site has seen or even had extensive knowledge about the players traded. One being local. They read or hear some so called expert give an opinion

Finally in BVW first year he tried to improve at catcher ( first Realmute then Crandall, finally Ramos ). CF going after Pollack, Closer Diaz. depth with Lowrie
Lowrie was coming off two years of playing over 140 games and having good numbers. He was slated to play full time over four infield positions

I never said Diaz didn’t spit the bit last year, I said if he had pitched anywhere close to the year before etc.

I still believe there is no such thing as a right or wrong but only what works. Everyone has an opinion but only what works is right
