Rangers Announce Initial 60-Man Player Pool

By George Miller and Anthony Franco | June 28, 2020 at 5:11pm CDT

Today marks the deadline for teams to submit to Major League Baseball their initial spring training player pools, which can comprise up to 60 players. Players are not eligible to participate in either a spring training or regular season game until they are included in the pool. Teams are free to change the makeup of the pools as they see fit. However, players removed from a team’s 60-man (for reasons unrelated to injury, suspension, etc.) must be exposed to other organizations via trade or waivers.

Not all players within a team’s pool are ticketed for MLB playing time, of course. Most teams will include well-regarded but still far-off prospects as a means of getting them training reps with no intention of running them onto a major league diamond this season. A comprehensive review of 2020’s unique set of rules can be found here.

The Rangers’ initial player pool consists of the following players.

Astros probably wouldn’t be able to hear their trash cans out there. Have you heard how loud they are? They’d stand no chance having to actually play without cheating.

There are some low-key ballers on this list:

    Johnathan Hernandez
    Refsnyder
    Adolis Garcia
    Solak
    Hearn
    Goody
    Evans

This team is better than it looks, watch out.

Biased?… yes… Truthful?… yes as well. The only true stretch was Ref, and that was because he has experience, and he was decent in Spring (plus he’ll get more playing time this season). All the rest, I feel, are true breakout guys. I could’ve listed Allard too, but I don’t know what his role is going to be with the team yet.

I truly think the Rangers are not only the 3rd best team in the A.L West, but also a viable contender for a WC spot.

I’m bullish on Solak. Also, I believe in Evans as a possible dominant arm out of the pen. Hernandez also could be a solid piece out of the pen. Rest of the guys are just that- guys.

Rangers need more pitching and pitching depth, but this offense can probably get them to .500. They might be a sneaky-good team this year, although it’s hard to put them over the monster A’s and Astros, and the Angels too.
