Alex Bregman Exits With Hamstring Injury

By Connor Byrne | August 19, 2020 at 8:50pm CDT

9:50pm: Bregman left with hamstring discomfort and is day to day, Mark Berman of Fox 26 was among those to report.

8:41pm: Astros superstar third baseman Alex Bregman exited their game Wednesday with a potential leg or ankle injury, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle tweets. Bregman departed immediately after limping to second base on a double.

More on the severity of Bregman’s issue should be known soon, though it’s obvious losing him for any extended period would be yet another massive blow to an injury-riddled Houston club. The Astros lost one of their premier hitters, Yordan Alvarez, for the season because of a knee injury Wednesday. They’ve also been without reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander for almost all of the campaign on account of a forearm strain, and there’s no word on when he could return. Furthermore, Michael Brantley, Roberto Osuna, Aledmys Diaz, Brad Peacock and Jose Urquidy are also on the IL right now.

To the Astros’ credit, they have overcome their injury obstacles to begin the season 13-10, just one game back of wild-card position. Bregman has helped keep them afloat with a .272/.374/.500 line and four home runs in 108 plate appearances. Those aren’t the otherworldly, MVP-type numbers Bregman put up from 2018-19, but they’re still far above the league average.

Why is this author so ridiculously biased? How can he opine that Bregman is a superstar in a straight news article when Bregman has been proven to be the biggest dirtbag cheater in the league?

What the writer meant to say is it took the astros a while to figure out how to use the buzzers without fans in the seats.

Once they got the hang of it, likely using longer range transmitters from a guy outside the stadium, they’ve mounted a comeback to be a game back…

First of all, Bregman was cheating in 2019 and the whole league knew it. The Washington Nationals made special preparations for his ongoing cheating in advance of the World Series, and this is well documented. Furthermore, you’re making the large leap that Bregman suddenly decided to stop being a cheater. I agree with you that the particular scheme he was involved in would be pretty difficult to carry out now in 2020, but I have total confidence in his skills in deception and fraud after reading the details of Operation Black Magic. You should too.

Nope the benefit of the doubt should clearly go to the Astros and Bergman! The league had no intention to follow through on the complaints until they were blown up in the Athletic article, but so no the Astros were so contrite and forethcoming they only cheated in 16,17, & 18. Yep that completely checks out……..

Let’s just be honest about this, the proof is clearly there with the trash can bangs, and Jomboy blew them. It’s the only reason the league was forced into taking action. But the league had no balls, and no teeth to sink it into. I could care less tbh, the Astros won, congrats don’t really care, but let’s not pretend that there was a true or worthwhile investigation. And I know, I know nuance is difficult to understand, but a team taking tells in between innings is significantly different from live bangs/buzzes, but that’s just me. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter much, because they’ll have their one championship, but let’s not pretend nothing happened. That parts laughable

I can agree with ‘17 and the fact that mlb doesn’t want to investigate anyone. It’s a shame all the way around. Just like the steroid era, the league knew and looked the other way.

Literally every team in the NL has been cheating and I’m amazed nobody has noticed it! If you watch really, really carefully, every time the pitchers slot has been up to bat, someone else has gone to the plate for him, and they’ve given them a uniform and helmet to disguise him in the hopes you won’t notice. It’s a disgrace and they’re just allowing this blatant cheating to go on unchallenged. #Conspiracy

Bergman is still a good player but his numbers has gone down like all the Astros. Its much harder not knowing the pitch that is coming. Altuve is a shell of his former self because he cheated all the time. Bergman will still be productive just not a video game stat anymore.

Lol! You might want to go check their actual stats before making ridiculous statements like this. The only Astros hitter that has worse stats is Altuve.

Btw, Altuve is the guy that the other Astros have said didn’t cheat, which was actually supported by the banging stats that are out there. Dude is just in a slump.

Oh please you sure don’t know baseball or cheats if you think Altuve is the only one that cheated. Bergman stats are down. Altuve stats are down. Reddick stats are the same. Springer stats are down. Brantley stats are a ittle down. Only Correa stats are up. So you either didn’t look up the stats or didn’t think i would look up the stats and show you lied.

At 13-10 as of the time the article was written, the Astros are in second place by a wide margin over Texas. That means they are in playoff position already, not 1 game back of wild card position. All second place teams get in this year.

It is interesting that the Astros are currently 2nd in the AL in runs/game. This is even with Alvarez only playing in a couple games, Brantley playing hurt and then being put on the IL, Springer missing time and Altuve in a deep slump.
They cheated in 2017 and nothing can exonerate that.
If they cheated in 2019, why did they “slash” .179 BA/ .281 OBP / .600 OPS in the ALCS against the Yanks?

Yanks knew they were cheating last year. Many teams complained to MLB about their cheating but they did nothing about it until a former player spoke up about it in the off season. A’s had to come up with a complete set of different signs they had 3 different ones facing the Astros. The yanks did the same. So stop making excuses they were sign stealing for 3 years and Altuve was using a buzzer and got caught. They cheated and you should be embarrassed that they did not win legit.
