Astros Acquire Brooks Raley From Reds

By TC Zencka | August 9, 2020 at 7:44pm CDT

The Houston Astros acquired Brooks Raley from the Reds for a player to be named later, the Reds announced. Raley was designated for assignment on Thursday.

In a corresponding move, the Astros transferred closer Roberto Osuna to the 45-day injured list, per Mark Berman of Fox 26. Osuna is likely to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Raley made four appearances for the Reds this season, giving up four earned runs in four innings. The 32-year-old appeared in the major leagues for the first time since his initial appearances with the Cubs in 2012 and 2013. The southpaw has been a reliable rotation arm in the KBO for the past five seasons, however. Raley made 30 or 31 starts in each season from 2015 to 2019 for the Lotte Giants, totalling a 48-53 record with a 4.13 ERA across 910 2/3 innings. That’s an average season of more than 182 innings per season.

The Astros have struggled to fill out their rotation after an early injury to Justin Verlander. Raley will likely jump into the Houston bullpen if he’s added to the active roster, though his ability to start or pitch multiple innings is certainly a plus for a team looking for length.

Clintron comes out of the dugout to start the fight then runs back in and hides behind 4 players. That was the most chicken move I seen in a long time

Altuve looks like a average hitter now that he doesn’t know what pitches are coming.

Brantley’s problem has been injuries. He was a top player in Cleveland. Their 1B is the only player that is showing any power. the rest are now average hitters.

I blame Manfred for all of this..especially letting someone who was by all accounts relaying signs in the Astros dugout (Alex Cintron) to continue to be on Astros payroll and in the capacity he is in.

@sacball, I agree you have to blame Manfred. You have to realize that MLB has swept under the rug many cheating accusations. In 2018, MLB investigated the Astros of using trash cans in the 2017 but no evidence was “found” by MLB. That same year, the Brewers accused the Dodgers of cheating, yet nothing came up. It took Fiers for MLB to really investigate. Now that being said, I’m not defending the Astros for what they did, it was wrong. MLB turned a blind eye to the environment they created then want shift all blame to one team. They did same thing with steroids. Don’t be MLB’s sheep.

Typical Met fan…He complains about the Yankees because his team sucks big time and their only pleasure is talking negatively about the Yankees. Sad to be a Mets fan.

Mets will go further than Yankees this year… winning 100 games in the AL isn’t that impressive.

Winning 100 games in the AL would actually be very impressive. Most of us don’t think it’s possible for any team to get there this year.

Every pitcher in the league uses pine tar, and its for the better. Stop complaining and check yourself first, worry about your garbage mets team.
