Cardinals Purchase Contracts Of Max Schrock, Roel Ramirez

By Jeff Todd | August 5, 2020 at 2:16pm CDT

The Cardinals announced four new additions to the active roster. Two of those players, infielder Max Schrock and righty Roel Ramirez, first had to be selected to the 40-man roster. Also coming up are righty Alex Reyes and southpaw Genesis Cabrera.

Each of these moves, excepting that of Ramirez, was already known to be in the works. Some had hoped the team was also plotting the arrival of top prospect Dylan Carlson, but it seems that’ll have to wait a while longer.

Ramirez, 25, came to the Cards with Cabrera in the Tommy Pham swap. He worked to a 4.78 ERA in 75 1/3 upper-minors innings last year, carrying 10.2 K/9 against 3.6 BB/9. Ramirez went on to have a nice run in the Arizona Fall League, allowing only three earned runs with a 16:3 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 frames.

Great. I guess the Cards aren’t interested in either winning or helping Carlson develop this year.

Hey All: the Cardinal Director of Player Development, Mr Pun, doesnt agree with these promotions, and must have been overruled by the GM. Very spicy and interesting.

Certainly cant be “King of Partial Facts” Pun doing what Pun does.

If you’re suggesting that I told you to go outside and stare and the sun, I did, and I am. Please do.

It has more to do with the infielders with Covid. If Carlson could play shortstop, he’d be up.

I don’t think you’re wrong, but they need to inject offense into that lineup. They should put Carp at 3rd, Edman at short and move Carlson or Fowler into DH. That left side D may be rough until DeJong gets back, but they won’t be beating anyone with that lineup.

Not offensively lol. I do think they have a lot of pitching depth thought.

This seems to be the pattern: if you lack viable alternative within your organization or they are unavailable, you shop the scrap heap.

It seems the teams that can fair the best are those with depth and those who can manage or even the virus from infecting their organization.

Good to see Schrock finally getting his chance in MLB. He can hit in the minors now he can prove his worth up here.
