The Rangers have announced a few roster moves. Righty Juan Nicasio is headed back to the majors after his contract was selected. The club will bid adieu to first baseman Greg Bird, who elected free agency after clearing outright waivers.
In other news, the team has placed backstop Robinson Chirinos on the 10-day injured list due to a sprained right ankle. Fellow catcher Jose Trevino was called up to fill in behind the dish.
This makes a decade’s worth of MLB seasons for Nicasio, who’ll soon turn 34. He struggled to a 4.75 ERA in 47 1/3 frames last year with the Phillies.
Bird will head back to the drawing board after only a single game in a Rangers uniform. He never even saw a chance to swing a bat with the Texas club, having landed on the injured list shortly after his promotion.
Tigers, with Cron out. That’s if he doesn’t get injured on the flight over.

Bird’s career is hanging on by a thread here. If he doesn’t turn it around soon that’ll be it for him.
Man, this little article just threw a ton of news at me.
1. Rangers made a big mistake. Choosing Nicasio over Demarcus Evans from the alternate site is rough. Nicasio joins Chavez as another aging reliever that will be gone soon enough. Evans has a chance to be yet ANOTHER 100 mph fireballer out of the Ranger’s pen, but alas, this happens.
2. Yay Greg Bird is gone! Guzman is crushing baseballs at the alternate site, and he has better defense, so I’d rather have him as a backup 1b.
3. Our catching situation sucked even when Chirinos was with us, because the only thing he has done this season is hit ground balls or strikeout. Mathis (for some odd reason), is hitting fairly well… wow. Anyways, calling up Trevino is the best thing right now, he has great defense, and he comes in clutch a lot. He’s a fan favorite in Texas right now.
