Twins Sign Derek Law

By Jeff Todd | November 25, 2020 at 7:49pm CDT

The Twins have agreed to a deal with Derek Law, the righty himself announced on Twitter. Details aren’t yet known, but it seems likely to be a minors pact with an invitation to Spring Training.

Law, 30, cracked the majors in 2016 and appeared in each of the ensuing three campaigns. That run came to an end in 2020, when he spent the year training with the Rangers as part of their 60-man player pool.

Though he found quite a lot of success in his debut season with the Giants, Law struggled to replicate it. He was entrusted with 58 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2019, but managed only a 4.90 ERA with 9.9 K/9 and 5.9 BB/9 over 60 2/3 innings of action.

Lol geg, it might now be the Law of Diminishing Returns?

There won’t be much of a need for Law once Minneapolis abolishes the police, so he better have a great year until then. Then they can trade him to Texas so he can be a Ranger after that.

he couldn’t get it done against the Cubs in the 2016 playoffs – game 4 when Cubs came back down 5-2 in the 9th

many thought ( including Joe Madden) if the Giants would’ve won that game 4

    – they would’ve had a good chance of beating the Cubs in game five

That game was on Bochy if anyone. Should’ve kept in Matt Moore who was mowing down the Cubs lineup in the later half of that game

Don’t exactly remember the pitch count, imo still better to keep the pitcher who’s been dominant until at the very least he gives up a base runner. Then, you give the ball to the established closer (Romo), who had a great season in 2016, rather than the young rookie (Law)

I honestly don’t recognize him, maybe he has the high spin rate potential ala Matt Wisler they are hoping to harness.
