Giants Designate Trevor Gott For Assignment

By Steve Adams and Connor Byrne | April 20, 2021 at 2:45pm CDT

The Giants announced that they’ve designated right-hander Trevor Gott for assignment and optioned lefty Sam Selman to their alternate training site. The pair of moves makes room for lefty Jake McGee and righty Logan Webb to be reinstated from the injured list.

This is the second time since the offseason that the Giants have designated Gott, who lasted just one day on their roster this time. The Giants selected Gott heading into Monday’s game against the Phillies, though he didn’t make an appearance. Now, with McGee and Webb back from a brief stay on the COVID list, he’s once again in DFA limbo.

The 28-year-old Gott is in his third season in the San Francisco organization, with which he saw significant action in 2019, totaling 52 2/3 innings. The Giants’ reliance on Gott has dwindled since then, however. All told, Gott has pitched to a 5.46 ERA (with a much better 4.23 SIERA) and a 24 percent strikeout rate against a 9.2 percent walk rate in 64 1/3 frames as a Giant.

I don’t even see a ‘mute’ button on my IPad. I see a ‘thumbs up’ hand, a Reply and a Flag. Nothing has changed since the announcement.

From the article announcing the Mute button:
          mlbtraderumors.com/2021/04/commenter-mute-button-n…

“The Trade Rumors iOS app now has a flag button, but does not yet have the mute button”

It really is the quintessential Farhan Zaidi move.

We already DFA’d him in the offseason and no one wanted him and he accepted his minor league assignment. It will likely happen again, and we don’t have to use someone’s minor league option. Plus we don’t care if anyone claims him lol.

Since Gott was DFA guess Zaidi hoping to pull off a deal for minor league player.

This is not unexpected. The Giants were simply waiting till McGee and Webb passed Covid protocols. Selman will be back. Gott, maybe not.

They didn’t need to pass any protocol, they just had side effects from the second vaccine.

I was looking at his page on Baseball Reference and it said “More Gott Pages.” That may be improper English.

I can see Reds picking him up. He’s from Lexington Kentucky

      Judge_Smails45:

Since he’s not better than Cam Bedrosian, whom they outrighted just recently, or anyone else on the Reds roster for that matter, why would they claim Gott? Just because he’s from nearby Lexington, it doesn’t make sense claiming him if he’s not any good. I think he cleared waivers once before already.

Gott will be back at the alternate training site, since I have no doubt, he’ll go unclaimed.
