White Sox To Place Luis Robert On IL

By Connor Byrne | April 27, 2021 at 3:18pm CDT

The White Sox are placing center fielder Luis Robert on the injured list with flu-like symptoms, general manager Rick Hahn told James Fegan of The Athletic and other reporters. Robert will undergo further testing to determine how much time he’ll miss. The team is recalling right-hander Alex McRae to take Robert’s roster spot.

Robert burst on the scene in 2020 as an American League Rookie of the Year candidate and a Gold Glove winner, and he got off to a nice start this season before this illness cropped up. The 23-year-old has slashed .305/.356/.463 with a home run and four steals in 90 plate appearances, and has cut his strikeout rate by almost 7 percent since last season.

Robert will be a difficult player for the White Sox to go without, considering he has started all 21 of their games in center this year. The White Sox will start Leury Garcia there on Tuesday against the Tigers, and they also recalled Luis Gonzalez for depth purposes.

I’d argue thinking science is a “belief” is part of the problem.

In any case, if Luis only has one shot, there is still a risk, so probably best he go into COVID protocol.

Probably also best to play Hamilton in CF instead of Garcia. If you aren’t getting hitting, might as well go with glove.

You may want to keep your righteousness in check. Just a few hundred years ago it was scientific fact that the Earth was the center of the universe.

“Facts” and “science” lol! Please tell me which “facts” and what “science” I should be following. What makes you right? Maybe some people would rather wait and see before letting someone put a less than a year old vaccine in their bodies. Science would suggest that if they haven’t perfected a Flu vaccine in decades then they surely aren’t close with this one.

They also thought mice came from sacks of corn. Why? Because scientific methods stunk.

They are far more advanced today, more reliable, and results in a better understanding of our world. Statcast has revolutionized how we evaluate performance in baseball.

What doesn’t happen is science moving in reverse, because you don’t wish to accept new data and methods.

By your logic, Andrew Vaughn is a great LF because he hasn’t made any errors. That’s not how things work anymore, no matter what you belief.

OK, science then. You know it takes 8 years to perfect a vaccine right?

You do know they have totally changed the way they make vaccine right? ( Recombinant protein vaccines and cell based vaccines versus the old method of using eggs )
Both newer methods considerably shortened development time so the 8 yr argument goes out the window.

The White Sox received the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. If Roberts was one of the 95% who took it he should have been protected, at least as much as its effectiveness allows which is a bit less statistically than the two dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Of course none of the vaccines are guaranteed to be 100% effective and probably less so with all the new COVID-19 variants, to say nothing of potential side effects.

Actually, it was known the Earth revolves around the sun back in Ancient Greece. The only ones saying otherwise were probably the type who wouldn’t get a COVID vaccine today.

This is ridiculous. I have never heard of anyone going on the IL for ‘flu like symptoms’. It would not be like the Chisox organization, to be dealing with honesty – at least not with their TV announcers.

We know it’s been difficult with the Cubs generally slumbering offense in 2021 but wake up Dogbone. Many players have been placed on the IL with flu-like symptoms that might potentially be COVID-19. It’s protocol now.

If tests show the symptoms were not COVID-19 the players can return in short order as was the case with White Sox SP Dylan Cease recently.

Dylan Cease went on this list last week with similar symptoms and he was back in 2 or 3 days. Either way it’s not like the White Sox are trying to make up ground on Cleveland or Minnesota.

I hope he doesn’t have COVID, but I hope he is on the Covid IL. It would be super weird if they put him on the 10 day IL because of flu-like symptoms, so it must be the Covid IL, right?

I would guess it doesn’t matter. If they show symptoms they probably put them on it and isolate them immediately and then get the testing started.

Didn’t Reddick have to do a 14-day quarantine when he signed? Maybe not 14-days specifically, but I know the D-Backs couldn’t just straight up throw him into the line-up when they signed him.

It’s not that they’re doing nothing, it’s that he’s not ready. He had zero Spring Training and hasn’t played since last October, so after passing through intake protocols, he’s been at their alternate site getting into game shape and preparing for game action. The minor league season opens next week, so I’d imagine the plan is to get a couple weeks of game action in before adding him to the MLB roster.

What is most terrifying about all of this is that the two guys most prone to injury – Garcia and Eaton – are the ones still healthy. Don’t like those odds, and they really need to consider additional help.

I agree, but I doubt Kubat will ever get a chance barring a massive string of injuries.

Foe whatever reason, Hahn doesn’t like soft-tossing pitchers, or guys who don’t have massive K9 numbers. It’s why Flores was deemed expendable.

Kyle Kubat is not a member of the White Sox 2021 Schaumburg alternate site roster. That said, he should be in Arizona as part of the group of minor league prospects getting ready for their seasons to commence in early May. This is a list of the White Sox alternate site roster that was announced on April 5th and which has just seen the promotion of RHP Alex McRae and OF Luis González today:

RHP (12): Zack Burdi, Ryan Burr, Will Carter, Danny Dopico, Tayron Guerrero, Tyler Johnson, Reynaldo López, Kade McClure, Alex McRae, Connor Sadzeck, Jonathan Stiever and Mike Wright.

LHP (2): Kodi Medeiros and Nik Turley.

C (2): Carlos Pérez and Seby Zavala
      .
INF (6): Tim Beckham, Marco Hernández, Danny Mendick, Zach Remillard, Matt Reynolds and Gavin Sheets.

OF (4): Luis González, Mikie Mahtook, Blake Rutherford and Nick Williams.
