Braves Recall Orlando Arcia

By Anthony Franco | July 4, 2021 at 12:09pm CDT

The Braves announced they’ve recalled Orlando Arcia from Triple-A Gwinnett. Left-hander Kyle Muller was optioned out last night to clear active roster space.

Arcia will be making his team debut when he first appears in a game. Atlanta acquired him from the Brewers for relievers Patrick Weigel and Chad Sobotka in early April but immediately optioned him. That wasn’t unreasonable; while Arcia was a one-time top prospect, he never developed the way the Brewers had hoped. Between 2018-21, the right-handed hitting infielder hit just .232/.282/.344 (64 wRC+) across 1112 plate appearances. Arcia was coming off a career-best 2020, but his .260/.317/.416 line last year was still a tad worse than league average.

To his credit, Arcia has looked completely rejuvenated since changing organizations. The 26-year-old has hit .303/.380/.552 over 229 trips to the plate with the Stripers. He’s popped thirteen home runs and compiled an equal number of walks and strikeouts (25 apiece). Arcia’s 145 wRC+ ranks tenth among the 79 Triple-A East hitters to tally at least 150 plate appearances.

Arcia will get another chance to try to carry over that success against big league arms. A longtime shortstop in Milwaukee, he’s also seen action at third base and in left field this season in preparation for a potential multi-positional role off the bench.

Orlando Arcia should become the mascot of the Orlando Magic because he can make his batting average disappear!

All he needs to do is keep his OPS+ 15 points below average to be a more productive player than Swanson.

I think you have the blindly loyal Braves fans confused with a majority of the fanbase. Over on Twitter, it’s pretty open knowledge that Dansby isn’t the answer. Reminds me of Marcus Giles in that you can look at some of his season numbers and see he had a few productive years, but also know he’s not a long-term answer on a championship contender. Belongs in the bottom third of a lineup.

Amazing Braves game tonight! Arcia 2 hits! Max Fried the hero! Just the game to pump the Braves up! July 4th win! Now is the time to turn it around! Just the best game for me so far this year. WOW go Braves

Hoping he does well with the Braves. While not performing well on field he was always one of my favorite Brewers personalities. The guy brings tremendous energy and a great attitude. He is the only player I have ever seen steal a bite of a fans I’ve cream while chasing a foul pop. If he can perform with the bat Braves fans will really enjoy this guy

This all but confirms that Chicago and New York will become our World Series victims in ‘21 and ‘22.

Gee , and I thought AA would sit on his a$$ . Now do the Braves start the dumpster diving or actually trade some value for some value ?

The first thing I would do “Doxie” if I was AA, is trade you as a fan to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations, $1 would do. You aren’t a fan, you’re a critic. The only opinion here that belongs in the dumpster is yours. I like the Braves & I like AA. Until you have an iota of intelligence to be a GM, you probably should hide your opinion behind a steaming pile of dumpster leftovers.

Worth a shot at this point. It’ll be interesting to see if the Braves acquire a left fielder at the trade deadline.

People can say what they want but the goal is to win World Championships. Division titles are not good enough. I would rather have five division titles and two World Series titles than 10 division titles and zero World Series titles.

I’m sure not an expert on baseball, but it seems simple to me. Trade for 2 power hitting outfielders or 1 out fielder and a power third baseman. If we go that route, move Riley to LF. Then find a good hitting catcher. Someone who can get on base and not just hit homers. After that, replace nearly all of the bull pin and add to the bench. Might also look into getting a new batting coach. See, it’s as simple as that. Of course if they won’t do at least half of this, might as well write off this season and save your money. Maybe they’ll do something next year. Seems like it’s always “next year” with the Braves.

Agreed. It’s absolutely atrocious and they should buy the entire city of Atlanta some hot wings to make up for this horrendous series loss.
