I predict Curt Schilling and David Ortiz as the only players getting in by the BBWAA and announced on 1-25-22. You heard it here first.

Schilling won’t get in for comments he made long after his playing career. Just because the writers don’t like what he said, they shouldn’t use that to keep him out of the Hall of Fame. by far the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of in Hall of Fame talks in any sport. Treating Schilling like he used steroids. or worse like he’s Pete Rose, he’s not Pete Rose, he’s a guy who said some comments some people didn’t like. Just insane

He endorsed lynching journalists. For some reason, that didn’t sit well with sportswriters.

well, he also juiced, unless you actually believe a guy at age 32, surrounded by lots of other players who likely juiced somehow got all world drug free.

dude is a hypocrite and if guys like bonds and clemens aren’t in, schilling shouldn’t be in either (funny how steroids were only bad to him until he started playing with juicers).

@mfm4200: Do you believe pitchers like Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, and Tom Glavine were juicing, too? I’m not saying it’s impossible but I strongly doubt any of them did.

Maddux and Glavine were always weaklings that couldn’t throw hard and had no indications at any level of taking PEDs. Smoltz was very vocal in the media about supporting the idea of looking into the steroid abuse because he thought it was a problem. Schilling actually went in front of Congress and said he wanted more steroid testing and asked MLB to do the same even though no one accused him of it.

That sounds very different from what someone who has never been accused of taking steroids would do if they actually were. What about string bean Randy Johnson? Do you think he was juicing? I can’t tell you that you are wrong because I don’t 100% know. I do know all those guys fit the same criteria you listed to presume Schilling’s guilt and I don’t believe any of them did. I’ve never even heard suspicion of it.

Jeff Bagwell is in the Hall but he actually had that Sammy Sosa Cro-Magnum eyebrow ridge look going on that is a very well known side effect of steroid use. Pudge Rodriquez is in the Hall with a swirl of suspicion around him and his massive weight loss/power outage as soon as testing kicked in. You are certainly entitled to your own opinion but your logic seems to imply all great pitchers during the steroid era juiced. I don’t buy it and I don’t see Schilling as any more likely than any of them.

If the fact that Schilling was a good pitcher during the steroid era is your only justification for calling him a juicer I think there are several guys out there named Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Mike Mussina, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz who would say you have to do a lot better than that.

@mfm. There is no proof anywhere that Schilling was a PED user like 2 other guys who will be on the ballot the last time and hovering around 60%. Just sit back and watch he will be voted in.

I don’t know if Schilling gets in or not. He said he doesn’t want to. I kind of understand his gripe. Voters said they didn’t vote him in because of the character clause but at the same time voted in some writer who had already been convicted of some Felipe Vasquez type stuff. I don’t really get how that works. Bonds and Clemens I’m not sure about. Andruw Jones lack of support surprises me. More defensive runs saved than any outfielder in MLB history. 10 straight center field gold glove awards. On top of that he hit over 430 home runs. If some defensive stats say you are the greatest centerfielder of all time and you have over 430 homers on top of that when 500 home runs used to be a lock for any player it seems like that should be enough. Especially when there isn’t a steroid cloud around you like Bonds and Clemens.

As long as the Angels attach Adell or Marsh to that, sure. Upton has negative value. Kimbrel has at least slightly positive value.

Have you ever Pitched in HS, College, minor leagues. A pitcher who takes the mound NOT wanting the W, loses more. Wins make a starting Pitcher.

Mets fan that believes wins make the starting pitcher. So…deGrom isn’t even top-3 best SPs in MLB, right? He needs to suffer for an inept offensive support.

So, since the Jays have tried to sign Gausman on two other occasions but to no avail, will the third time be the charm and they get the guy they’ve coveted for the last few years ???

Regarding the question about the catcher situation in Cleveland, I think they’ll stand pat for now. They have Lavistida, who could be knocking on the door by midseason, and Naylor, who struggled offensively in ’21 but is still young & projectible.

The joke is supporting a guy who believed he was above the rules and the game and then lied about his guilt for years. Let’s not forget Pete’s own ped issue. No, not the Barry Bonds ped issue. Pete is the other ped….as in carrying on and affair with a girl 14-15 years old and then saying…..but I thought she was 16.

Yeah…let’s support such a fine upstanding guy.
