O’Hoppe excites me for a farm system that lacks a lot of hitting talent.

Brooklyn have a team? Nah, NYC has two teams already.

But but but Brooklyn is really really big!
Jean Matrac
Brooklyn wants a team, and so do a lot of other cities.

The standings tell you very little about how much of an effect the manager does or doesn’t have.

For the one who asked about manager WAR… bill james devised a prediction system based on weighing different seasons record (2x prior season and 1x two seasons prior) and adding 162 wins and 162 losses (drift toward the mean) and see the difference between that record and the teams actual record and attributing that to the manager. It is flawed because it doesn’t take into account WAR change but it’s a good estimate of manager influence

For the rest of the Monty Python fans, I highly recommend watching the actual, legitimate video on YouTube of Margaret Thatcher doing the Dead Parrot sketch (with a straight face) at a Conservative Party convention. Please stay until the very end so you don’t miss a thing.

Regarding Carlos Santana, it’s been one full year and two months. Definitely time for the ever loyal Dayton Moore to bite the bullet. Vinnie, Prado, Melendez and Salvy can combine to cover 1B, C and DH.

To help answer Frank Thomas’ question, he is correct about the Arb payout. Players are paid at the lower of the two submitted figures (which is always the Organization’s proposed figure) and then if the player wins Arb they receive the backpay of the difference.

No way the padres trade Gore for Wheeler.
First, the padres won’t realistically add another large contract like that.
Second, Gore is out pitching Wheeler this year.
Third, the padre have been extremely patient with Gore through his struggles the last two years, now that he is showing them why he was drafted third overall, they aren’t going to trade him.
Fourth, they could have traded Gore years ago for arguably better talent than Wheeler.

I agree… Wheeler is a great pitcher, but Gore is doing great too and he’s very inexpensive and very young. No reason to trade him when you are at the luxury cap. The Padres may be looking to dump Snell, but not Gore.

A team isn’t going to not trade a guy just because “They could have traded him for better talent years ago.” But you are correct that MacKenzie Gore won’t be traded at this point.

I asked that question. It was a joke. He didn’t get it.
A few questions before was a Philly fan asking what ML READY PITCHING Wheeler could be traded for. Since Wheeler is obviously ML ready pitching himself, this person was hoping to get someone younger and with more control. Getting someone who is already better and who is essentially free for the next 2 years along with another 3 years of control after that as opposed to making $50 million the next 2 years. NOBODY would make that trade. Obviously he missed the joke.

BTV has Wheeler with more value than Gore. Apparently they still think it’s 2021 and Larry Rothschild is still the Padres PC.

They ask about Ramirez, Trout and judge, the only difference is the bigger names and the teams they play for, but Ramirez is having the better year, better OPS, more SB, way more walks than strikeouts and no help in the lineup, both Trout and Judge have more than double strikeout to walk ratio.

And is not like trout is Andrew Jones in CF.
