    The Padres rotation isn’t deep.

They do have 5 guys with 50+ innings and an ERA+ greater than 100. None of them are Blake Snell or Mike Clevinger. Clevinger is injured, but having five arms who have been reliable this year and two more who can be all-stars when healthy seems like a deep rotation to me.

Clev is on Covid IL as opposed to injured. His recent pitching has been good so assuming no I’ll effects and prompt return, should be right there. Snell showed a lot in last start. Other than my preaching Gore to BP to save innings, I think it really is 7 and contrary to harambe’s opinion, I’d say there isn’t a rotation deeper –
Being define as top MLb starters, anyway. May drop off at AAA level.

They have said on multiple occasions that Gore will be used as a starter only. Good thing too because if you use a pitcher as a reliever then that is what he will become.

        Responding to a troll.

The Padres new pitching coach – Ruben Niebla – has squared away most of the Pitchers. MLB today is all about multiple coaches working with players to maximize what they have going for them. As far as pitching and hitting go – the quality teams develop their own…..in the majors…..during the season. Expect the Padres to find a few additional starters before the season ends. The priority of defense by Bob Melvin helps all their starters as well.

Again – MLB is not computer baseball, rotisserie league, or Fangraphs (always off base) projections. It’s about human players, being aided by human coaches, working with technology.

They were also said to have an “uber deep rotation” at the start of the 2021 season. Then by the end of the season they were giving starts to Jake Arrieta and Vince Velasquez.

The Cubs will be serious about contending next season than they were this season… not vice versa.

The Cubs signed Suzuki, Stroman, put together a decent bench and added some decent relievers hoping that Madrigal would hit the ground running (literally) and Wisdom and Schwindel were legit.. unfortunately Miley has been hurt most of the year, Hendricks has bombed most of the year and the stro show has yet to show up.
Bottom line is the Cubs are going to ride out 2023 with minimal to no improvements, looks to deal Hendricks and Stroman at the deadline, probably Gomes and Happ as well. Odds of them spending on Turner, Correa or Bogaerts are slim and none (regardless what mlbtraderumors reported last week). They will do what they did this year, retread some starting pitching and relievers in hopes to flip them as well… them we will have Kilian, Alzolay, Thompson and Steele anchoring the rotation after the deadline.
The Cubs top prospects hitting wise are too far away to consider 2023 anything other than another rebuilding year… Davis lost a year but even before he needed a ton of work, Canario, Velazquez, all strike out nearly 40% of their at bats in the minors… unless Suzuki and Madrigal turn it on and look like all-stars they rest off the season, 2023 is another tank year.

Just absorb the whole salary. That’s all it would take. The player coming back wouldn’t matter.

As a Twins fan I don’t understand why people want to sign Correa long term. He’s signed for up to 3 years during the prime of his career. No sense in giving away another 5 years or more. If he stays, great. If he leaves that’s great too, that money can be spent on an improved bullpen next off-season. Short term deal>long term deal
